I figured I'd pass along this bit of information to everyone. I heard that the DFW area police (bacon) are adding a bunch of cops for the SOLE PURPOSE of catching any type of violators (esp speed demons I'm guessing) to raise a couple of million dollars.

The more I think about their little revenue-generating plan the more I wish some Lawyer would sue them all for racketeering. Its almost as bad as going Door to Door holding people up and forcing them to pay money. Yeah I know the argument they play "speed kills". If that were the case why not make cars that only drive as fast as the speed limit allows? You know why? because its a little money making operation. Also you notice how you never see cops monitoring speed when its raining outside? I'm thinking if there's a time when speed monitoring is needed its when road conditions are not at their best. Ok I'm off my soap box, be careful out there...........

True. Here's more info on this. My wife works for The Plano School District & they sent this to all PISD employees.

Dallas and the state of Texas will launch a 30-day speeding ticket
frenzy. The state estimates that 9 million dollars will be generated
in
speeding tickets. 1 million will go to pay state troopers and Dallas
Police officers overtime. There will be 50 police officers and state
troopers in the Metroplex on duty at all times patrolling the 10 main
intersections and highways.

They are the following:

I-35E north and south

I-20 east and west

75 north and south

635 entire loop

114 east and west

183 east and west

175 north and south

North Dallas Tollway north and south

George Bush Turnpike east and west

360 north and south

Now 5 mph above the limit can justify a ticket and every officer is
supposed to pull a car over and write a ticket every 10 minutes. They
have issued 30 brand new unmarked Crown Victoria cruisers and they are
bringing all their part timers on full time. If you work in Dallas or
the surrounding areas you must take one of these interstates, routes,
or
parkways. It's up to you how fast you are doing when they do. WBAP-820
AM confirmed all of this yesterday morning.

So be safe and don't forget speeding tickets are on you.

You've been warned!....

This was issued to all school employees & staff

cant they make money another way? why do that have to screw everyone over to make money? sucks that they can get away with it... i mean, i understand getting someone for going 90 or 100mph... maybe even 80mph, but i bet they are gonna be getting people for like 8mph over and stuff... oh well i guess.

lets see..living in a commonwealth..we have personal property taxes (thats paid twice a year-even though we get a "car tax relief, but yet we still pay) in where i live we have to pay for a citydecal, not to mention the yearly car inspection...not to mention in VA you have to have car insurance. so we re paying more then just our carpayments and car insurance...ow yes, and those "vehicle violation " that a few unluck drivers have to pay..makes you wonder if its worth the $$$ to have a vehicle ( owning a chevy cobalt...hell ya its worth it!!! :guns:

haha, that's a good one  Kinda like Law Enforcement should set a shining example for all other motorists on the street. Which reminds me, one time I was pulled over because I made a left turn (legal) but when I turned onto the street, I didn't turn into the left lane. I drove a truck at the time and with its large wheelbase I would take the next lane because I hate hopping the curve with my rear tire if I don't cut the turn sharp enough. So anyways I get pulled over and am told that I didn't take the correct lane during my turn. After the cop checks my insurance and registration, he proceeds to pull out and makes a U-TURN from the FAR RIGHT LANE :cussing: . Ahhh, gotta love the hypocrisy

Doesn't the money go to fund the city, payroll, programs, city councils vacations to the Bahamas ? It's not like you are a consumer and they are giving you something in return, the money is complete profit to pay for the cities budget. It may not be enough for them that they "make" money but it is paying for something right?

Personally I can't argue overall what they are doing, nor do I support it. But speed limits are the law and supposedly there for a reason. I'm just going to have to slow it down for a little while.

So your all upset cause you can't speed which is breaking the law anyways? I really don't get it. I'm really having a hard time wrapping my mind around what your trying to say here.

Here's the simple solution. Don't speed. See how easy that was.

Every couple weeks here in Dearborn we have about 4 cops get together on Ford Rd. 3 waiting down the street and on waiting with a radar gun in a chair on top of the overpass. You know what I do, make sure I don't go speeding by them.
Anyways, like it was posted above, most of the money goes back into the city anyways.

remember that your beloved president bush used to be governor of this great state, if he didnt cut so many programs (including money going to police departments) to fund the quagmire in iraq, the cops wouldn't have to scrounge to make ends meet.

kinda like when 9/11 happened, he stood up in front of the tv cameras and said he would pour so many millions of dollars into local law enforcement and fire depts. for counter-terrorism programs and then less than a month later he cut all the funding for it so he could go (secretly) get his plans rolling for iraq.

dont blame the bacon, blame the govt.

Think about how much judges get payed to hear your case or the secretary to process the ticket, among other things. There are no profits from tickets.

Ok let me just state this once, SPEED DOESN'T KILL, IDIOTS THAT AREN'T PAYING ATTENTION WHILE DRIVING AND THE WRECKLESS IDIOTS THAT KILL.

If you really stop and think about it, why is it that insurance companies usually provide local municipals speed detecting equipment? For safety you say? NO! The speed detecting equipment is what enables cops to write citations for speeding, this in turn allows insurance companies to raise your rates, and insurance companies are there to turn a profit despite what their warm and cozy commercials would have you think. As I stated before, if the police are so interested in saving lives (the reason they claim they write tickets), then why is it that you rarely see cops writing tickets when driving conditions are bad (i.e. when its raining or when its snowing)?

Not all cops are like that.

There are officers who are very dedicated and look out for you, I personally know some.

Do you ever see a cop stationed at a speed trap when conditions are less favorable to driving? Next time it rains/snows etc, see if you spot any patrol officer sitting on a highway trying to slow traffic. I say if they were really concerned about safety they would have even MORE officers doing speed traps when conditions are worse trying to be proactive in preventing accidents before they happen. I don't care what they do really, I just wish that they would quit trying to pretend that what they do is in the name of safety.

I can't help but agree with you, but the simple fact is that there's generally a lot more accidents that police have to respond to when the weather is terrible out. They don't have time to make speed traps.

People also generally don't speed/can't speed when there is snow on the ground. I personally am not one of them, but I am definately a better driver then most of the people on the road. I have avoided more accidents by paying attention to my mirrors, and just the general conditions of the road. If they get too bad, I leave more room everywhere if there is a lot of traffic. I've had to steer around countless amounts of people, and go around people on the side when the people trying to stop behind me don't leave enough room and end up crashing into the person that was in front of me because they don't know how ABS works and they just go straight into the person.

Have you been everywhere? When its foggy here and it gets really foggy here Highway Patrol slows down traffic. I think you are borderline delusional, maybe officers are different in Texas, ionno.

I totally agree with you there but i just considered that part of the budget, the payroll for city officials. I understand there is nothing leftover to be considered profit.

I once had a ticket with the breakdown of the fine and off to the side, maybe $25 under fire/rescue. I thought to myself, I didn't cause an accident, noone had to respond to an emergency, I shouldn't have to pay the $25. Of course I understood it as a "what if" type of fine. There were two other category charges but I don't remeber them or the amounts.

I think in Westlake the categories are:

1. Courthouse Remodeling to make it look like a country club fee
2. Nice water-fall-style water-fountain out in the front fee
3. Sprinkles for the donuts fee
