View Full Version : Driveablity Question for the Exedy HyperSingle
Sythen1678 06-09-2008, 03:05 AM I am wondering for those who are currently driving the Hyper Single, how does it drive?
On the description for the clutch it stated,
"As with all cerametallic clutches, the street driveability may be marginal due to chattering and harsh engagement characteristics."
So im just wondering if it really drives "marginal" or is this just a warning?
Thanks for your time!
OneSlowGto 06-09-2008, 03:05 AM Are you planning to upgrade your car more? If not a spec 2+ should do just fine and save you some money.

Well i just instaled the AEM UEGO guage, and i have meth comming, i plan on doing a hp tune soon to throw around 260 270 hp's, but thats all i think im going to do. I want a clutch that wont slip on those hard shifts into 2nd =P i love those shifts!
OneSlowGto 06-09-2008, 03:12 AM If your worried about it I would say go with the spec 3+..... That should be fine.

OneSlowGto 06-09-2008, 03:15 AM Ya it should.

i was told i could make around that, i dont know the specifics myself, but i was kinda wondering as well... im going to get a tune soon and i will find out for sure. Worst case i get a smaller pulley i should have all the cooling mods to make that number! =)

Just have area tune it and use his dyno. You should put down 300 easy
Super_SS 06-09-2008, 03:56 AM u wont have a problem with ur stock clutch..its a brand new clutch that has barely 2k on it...car had a excedy clutch prior to sellin the car,and i took it off and replaced it with a brand new oem clutch...
but just incase if you want, the excedy kinda sucks for the street, and you will break ur tranny housing especially 2nd-3rd gear shifts, and in traffic it really sucks balls..it either wants to engage fully or no engage at all

The clutch is fine if i drive it normal, but even when i just accelerate in first gear it feels as if its slipping, i want to be able to do a fairly generous shift into 2nd without overheating the clutch.
thats right you did have the exedy in this thing before the tranny blew on you. I dont know how i feel about knowing that lol. Ill most likely go with either the spec stage 3 or 2, i am wondering when looking at the spec clutches, do they not come with a flywheel?

no they dont, they are priced without a flywheel, and alot of people buy the fidenza flywheel to go with the spec...if i was you i would stay away from the excedy clutch or you WILL blow that 3rd tranny
2K5SS/SC? 06-09-2008, 09:15 AM Meh, I have broke a tranny with the Clutchmasters FX300 and one with the Exedy Hypersingle so it really doesn't matter. Keep the tranny from moving around with the appropriate mounts and you should be fine. Also, leaving torque managment on has a key role in this as well. The driveability takes a little getting used to, but after you get the hang of it, it's no big deal. There might be a little chatter from it, but it's a 6 puck design and that's normal for a pucked clutch. I personally love mine all the way around, I just wish GM could have made a stronger gearbox which is bigger issue at large.
