My first mod will be a turbo timer. You got to think long term even if you swap turbos or what ever everyones first mod should be a turbo timer!!! anyone recom a brand?

Yeah if this setup required one; GM would have put one in stock, i am sure they thought about the warranty precautions for the turbo and felt this wouldnt need one.

im no turbo expert by any means, but ive also heard from some pretty smart people that they are not a necessity anymore if you use synthetic oil because they dont "bake" like conventional oil in the turbo

in my MS3 you can hear the oil pump stay on for about 30 sec and then turn off. i bet the SS is the same.

Turbo timers are always a contentious issue in the diesel pickup world-some say you have to have one, others say you don't. In all the years I've been driving turbo diesels, I've always been careful to not just pull her up and shut her down if I've just come off the interstate pulling a big load or something, but I've never felt the need for a turbo timer.

I was a bit nervous going to a gasser turbo since EGT's are usually higher on a gasser than a diesel, but supposedly the direct injection set-up leads to lower combustion temps anyway. I still wouldn't want to just come in off a speed run off the interstate and immediately shut it down. But like was mentioned above, a minute or two of idling getting parked and such should be plenty to cool it down out of the danger range-particularly with the high heat tolerance of synthetic oils.

Well thats good, because thats when you see the hottest temperatures. Big load + hills then directly parking on asphalt and letting the truck just idle or turn it off you will see the most rediculous temperatures.

havent found out how to program it all i did so far was hook them up turnd my car on then off 2 see if it works but then my car kept running was kinda shockd couse i have the ss/sc an me an my boy still havent found out what in the world is couseing the car to still run for 10secs after shut down

usually turbo timers let the car run for 45 seconds to upto 3 mins after shut-off, 10 seconds wouldn't do anything worth while really

The Interceptor DOES NOT have a Turbo Timer built in. You didn't follow the proper steps when hooking one up to an SS/SC. Lemme find it...

as long as your oil is not around your coolant which on a cool night at WOT should only reach about 210 MAX.... I say if its 190 and under your are good

A water cooled turbo doesn't need a turbo timer... Ever. If you just beat the piss out of it give it one minute. It's never necessary but more of a convince.

You dont see turbo timers on them at all until they swap turbos and do major work on the car.

Waste of money. Leave it be, no need to cut up your perfectly nice wire harness to install some useless, annoying device.

Honestly, we have never sold a turbo timer to a customer, and we have built countless 400-600+whp 4 cyl setups. the money is better spent elsewhere or saved. rarely does a car see a condition where the turbo is very hot and the car is shut down immediately.

I do a lot of racing. the cars at the track seem to be running them inbetween runs so they don't have to stay by the car until the next race..... summer racing with runs lasting less than 14sec then sitting for the next run for 5min-1hr will get the car hot.

While you are thinking slightly logically... you still don't need one. You have a coolant cooled turbo... not to mention the fact that in that ONE pass down the 1/4 mile... you won't be getting anything hott enough to do damage... AND you still have the drive to get back to the staging lanes. If you STILL feel like you have something better to do than sit in your car while it idles for the 15 seconds that the Turbo Timer would give you... then go ahead and waste your money.

There is honestly no use... unless you are going out and Road Racing the car for 3 hours straight (which even then... you don't really need one)... it'll be a waste of money.

Why don't you PM Hahn Racecraft and get their opinion on the matter. They've got over 20 years of Turbo Experience... and I don't recall seeing a Turbo Timer for sale on their website. ;)

during the 2-5 minute drive back to the staging lanes the turbo has more than enough time to cool off after a pass. after that you dont necessarily want the car running because you want it to cool off and get the IAT's down for the next run.

if they have their car running on a turbo timer in the staging lines while they arent at the car they are only doing it to be "cool" def not to cool off the turbo.

I'd worry less about cooling off the turbo if right now you still have no idea how to get past the ecu that controls everything and you dont even know what turbo your gonna use not to mention where your gonna get all your piping from...
