i was not impressed:thumbsdow

bad.....
i loved how it pulled in first and second gear, the rest of the gears it felt like it fell right on its face =\.

you cant really even hear the turbo spool up or really even suck in air.

freaken launch control is cool, but it didnt do it for me. the whole no lift shift shit sucked ass because (hockeyman said you have to shift within .02 seconds or it wont work) i guess i didnt know that and i tryed shifting and it got stuck inbetween gears lol.

good.....

first and second gear
first went up to 18 psi, second went to 15 and third went to about 13-14 psi

i love the way it handled and the front brembo brakes were awsome:D, but they could of atleast had the rear calipers painted black or dipped, they are fugly.

i like the new seats, they seemed to hold me pretty good

ALL OF THIS IS JUST MY OPINION SO PLEASE DO NOT BASH, i am a pretty good driver so please dont say i cannot drive. all in all i would rather have a ss sc until someone can get a pretty nice bov or something to let you know there is a turbo.

IMHO I would totally agree with you but you also have to remember you drove a STOCK ss/tc. I bet your comparison is between that and your modded ss/sc? am i right? i bet after people get this TC'd cobalt loaded with aftermarket bolt-ons many will fall in love.

me personally, i can't wait to see the aftermath.

Hockeyman

^he drives a 2.2, so he isn't really biast towards the ss/sc

and what are these boltons you speak of....

well never mind. lol. either way i still hold a valid point.

i heard that there is a 500 mile break in limitation?

madmark

i heard that there is a 500 mile break in limitation?

i dont think that is accurate, because i went to the plant in arlington texas and they were running the brand new tahoes and escalades on the dynos up to 90mph for 10 minutes for each one

That goes for any car you buy... It's always best to break them in for ATLEAST 500 miles... I'd go for either 1000-1500 before I started romping on it too much. I had the chance to test drive one the other day but I didn't... Dunno why. I was busy running errands I guess and I didn't wanna forget anything. A buddy of mine will be getting one at the end of the year so I can wait til then I suppose.

EDIT: When they say they come broke in from the factory, that's just like saying the clothes we sell at american eagle come pre-washed so they won't shrink. Once you take em home and wash em tho they still shrink some. Catch my drift? Sure they break them in some, but it's always best to be safe IMO

There is always some gains after the drivetrain "lossens" up a bit. I think people have talked the TC up so much that its hard for the car to live up to unrealistic expectations.

I'm glad no one test drove my car. I'd be pissed if I knew they were powershifting a car that had 10 miles on it. How loud do you expect a stock car to be. It's not going to sound like a Supra with a 44mm Tial wg.

Except that it IS. GM has even said that boost is limited the first 500 miles.

Owners Manual says vary your speed for first 500 miles, and that's it.

Nothing else is required.

i loved how it pulled in first and second gear, the rest of the gears it felt like it fell right on its face =\.

2nd gear is good for like 75-80mph. Exactly how fast were you driving that car?

Hope it wasn't a new dealer car test drive ...

launch control is cool, but it didnt do it for me ... i tryed shifting and it got stuck inbetween gears lol.

Once again, hope it wasn't a new dealer car test drive ...

I think that everyone who owns a Cobalt is a lot more critical of the car because we were expecting GM to go leaps and bounds above the S/C Cobalt. They did change the engine and some minor tweaks such as the seats and the "no-lift shift", but we have to remember this was not a major upgrade for the Cobalt. That is still going to happen in the next couple of years, so we should all just be patient and wait to see what GM does.

And has been said, once the aftermarket starts putting out mods for the T/C car, I am sure it will be turned into a real beast in a short amount of time. :twothumbs

i think what everyone has to remember is that this is a $20k car. it does more then enough for that price tag and GM has done an amazing job fitting what they have into the cobalt for that price. you cant ask for much more

can the car go into launch mode by itself or do you have to put it in? I took off from a light the other day a little to hard because you just cant help it sometimes and it said launch on the dash.

ha well if you don't know how to use the future on the car( no lift shift) then don't bash it. Cause that means you don't know how to use it.
Also, you are not going to hear the turbo spool up or suck in air, it's stock, from the factory. And no, it's not an srt-4.
Not every turbo'd car can be heard...
1.8T jettas are everywhere and noone hears them..mazdaspeeds...etc.

06-14-2008, 06:19 PM
uhmm i have no idea what you guys are listening to, but I definatley heard the turbo on4 of the ss/tc's i drove and 2 HHRS. You CAN hear it.

omgshesaboy
06-14-2008, 06:20 PM
idk why everyone is so critical on this car.. alot of people are saying its not fast enough the turbo isnt loud blah blah blah.. its a cobalt its not a sports car..

DebadgedBALT77
06-14-2008, 06:23 PM
yea, some people need to remember this is a COBALT. its not a 6 figure super car. I dont know what more you would want out of it.

sherm420
06-14-2008, 06:24 PM
i can hear my turbo very clearly

dont get me wrong i love both my cobalts.. but at the end of the day they are still cobalts

Whats with the obsession with bov's? I hate the pshhhhh sound they make, that very sound makes me hate srt 4's.

sherm420
06-14-2008, 08:42 PM
i dont care bout the bov i just like hearing it spool up

madmark
06-14-2008, 08:44 PM
i hate bov also since my friend thought it was funny to keep letting it go off in my face (he had a stock gst with a bov), but the fact is that you really dont hear it. i love the whine of the sc and i think i would like the tc more if you could hear it better.

And yes i have connections at the dealership, i know just about everyone and the salesman let me do whatever i wanted in the car. the car had 46 miles when i used the launch control and tryed doing the no lift shift crap.

Wazaroonie
06-14-2008, 09:12 PM
I hear it spool up not as loud as past turbos but its there the more you step on it the more you hear it.

ralliartist
06-15-2008, 12:56 PM
this shit is so funny, everyone keeps saying "it's a cobalt, not a sport car". but I don't remember srt-4's being so quiet and people complaining about the lag and shit when they came out.

Just to note, I like the car alot. But I still don't think it's "superior" to the ss s/c. The ecu sucks and I'm still not sold on the direct injection. Nevertheless, it's still a cobalt ss and I love the style of our cobalts. Wingless FTW!

DI sucks. You want to replace the injectors? Get ready to tear into the head of the engine. DI may have its benefits, but this is the sole reason that turns me away.

the injectors just fit in a hole in the head, you shouldn't have to pull the head to remove them

yeah, definitely gotta break that shit in

mine finally picked up more power within the past 2-3k miles from breaking in fully....I didn't start romping on it until recently

I think in almost every way the new SS TC is improved except the trans. Its not strong enough for the SS SC and its not going to handle the TC.

i just love the ss/sc cause the whine is so unique. whenever i just shift and get on it a tad in 2nd or third i get soooo many looks from ppl when they hear it. it just puts a smile on my face every time

has any one who has a ss/tc owned a ss/sc? just like to throw out there that i had a 2007 stage 2 for a year and my ss/tc is just a way better car in every respect. the turbo is sized right so there is almost no lag and it pulls much harder then the ss/sc does in every gear. down low power is so much better my older ss/sc used to buck if i gave it half throttle under 2000rpms, this new one just pulls hard. not trying to sound like i know everything but i have about 1000 miles one the ss/tc and 13000 on the ss/sc before gm bought it back from me, the ss/sc is just not as strong

easy101
06-26-2008, 08:56 PM
shit, wait till they start coming out with some easier performance upgrading options for the tc. a swap from the tiny factory turbo to a larger one and that think is going to rock pretty effing hard

I still dont get this obession with wanting to hear the turbo................ Looooooook at meeeeeeeeeeee weeeeeeeeeeeee i have a tuuuuuuuuuuuuuurbo, weeeeeeeeeeee!lol... My TC has 1500 miles on it and I hear the turbo, if I wanted to hear a more of a "movie" turbo sound (ie Fast and the furious) I'd bolt an air filter directly to the turbo inlet.
I race cars for Subaru of America and I've been in plenty of turbocharged car's and trust me when I say this car has plenty of balls...... In your half hour test drive you really didnt get to see what the car could do, it kills me with all the half baked assesments of this car. Is it a good car for the price? Yes.... Is it quick? Yes.... Does it have LOTS of potential? Yes.... Is the cobalt ss/sc a good car? Yes... blah blah blah.... Chevy has stepped up and made a car SS/tc and SS/sc that are good all around perfomance cars, I like both.....

I got a chance to test drive an 08. Im thinking of getting one. Ive never driven the old SC ones although my cousins got one that I rode in once.

I thought its a nice car and its got a lot more power than it feels like. It seems to have a pretty flat torque curve so you never feel the power build. It just goes and it feels the same pretty much everywhere. Seemed to handle good and stop good too. I got to drive it myself without the salesman looking over my shoulder which was nice too.

Right now I own a Scion tC S/C. The Scion makes no power below about 3500 RPM and you can feel it build power above that. It feels faster (at high RPMs) even though its not even close. It also feels heavier and leans more.

I much prefer the Chevy and I doubt it can be any less reliable. Hopefully the dealer can find me one cause I think its a great little car for the price. I will miss the hatch but thats about it.

I just picked up my TC SS last week to help keep the drive to work economical. I've been an LS1 guy for the past 10 years or so (currently on my 5th LS1 car) and I honestly can't complain. The car has some balls for just having 4 cylinders. Not to mention, bone stock I managed to stay door to door with a 99 Mustang GT with a few bolt-ons from 25~90mph over the weekend. Not bad if you ask me. I did my best to keep it out of boost the first 500 miles or so - especially since the jackasses who prep'd it for delivery filled the tank with 87 octane. It gets premium now. :) Definitely a good buy if you're in the market. My only frustration so far - I wish they did a better job with the user manual. It took me 5 minutes to figure out how to get the car into Competitive Driving Mode.
