Test drove a turbo. I'll keep mine.

I went about an hour away to a place that just got a turbo in. I wanted to check it out like most of us. cluding the brakes make the car look WAY better than mine.

The subtle differences in looks including the brakes make the car look WAY better than mine.

The interior was great. I loooovveed the seats. I would say better than my Recaros. The radio is great much better than mine and the steering wheel was nicer than the 4 spoke. What's that thing near the sunroof button though?

First drive: the shifter felt much tighter than my worn 40k miles shifter. The steering felt very tight and nice. Probably due to the revised electric steering. The car soaked up the bumps and rolled little in the turns. It felt much better than I expected. I would say it handled comparably to my car with full suspension.

But, the was one major drawback. The thing had no *****. It really felt like a sled compared to my beast. I mean I was waiting for something to happen that didn't. First gear felt real strong but other than that it felt like a sled. I was really expecting more. I didn't bring it all the way to reline and it is a green motor but I was sadly unimpressed.

Until people start modifying them I am def not giving mine up.

My number aren't that impressive. It's only a temporary turbo (hopefully it will be off by the end of the week). But, I am safely 280/280 to the tire.

280/280 must be pretty nice though.

The way my car has been lately, I'm not even putting 140/140 down. rofl

I can see where you are coming from. The power is so linear and unobtrusive that it doesn't feel fast. Until you look at the speedo.

I loved it and will be purchasing one. The thing you are speaking of is for the Onstar or bluetooth capability.

if so we are both right because it would be a mic used for both onstar and bluetooth

AHHH that makes sense. It could def be a mic.

It's weird. I found the power choppy, like it hit hard then dropped off. IDK I'm just comparing to my car. I saw the boost gauge hit 17 but go right down to 15. That could be it. I would like to drive one thats actually broken in too.

Let me get this straight:
  • you drive a car that you say has 280whp
  • then you test drive a car that you already know has 260 crank hp
  • you don't even take the SS/T up to redline 'cause you say it's too new
Then you go ahead and complain abut it not having any power?

Man, why do I even bother wasting my time reading these threads ...

I test drove one last weekend. Two problems I seen were: underhood apperance and the clutch (or lack there of). I didn't like how light the clutch was in my 07 ss/sc, but the ss/tc's clutch doesn't even feel like you are pressing on anything. I think that the underhood apperance looked real plain, and it looks like they forgot to finish.

turbo just seems slow cause of the factory tune. once you let a motor breathe and give it more fuel it just drives completely different. I drove one this weekend too and it was sick. It was almost as quick as my old ss/sc it just felt restricted. also...good point about under the hood. hot pipe was plain plastic and there was no plug cover. kinda cheesy looking they could have at least tried.

Onstar mic... Bluetooth is not going to be seen in any Cobalt until 2009.

I was very happy with the power it had...but my car has maybe 120 WHP compared to your 280 WHP.

I have to disagree with that thinking, simply because I had a 98 cavi, know back then it was unheard of to sup up your cavi and upgrades very limited..... and look at it know, turbo kits..... you name it they got it.

And now that Cavi' s/Cobalt's are accepted as "tuner" cars I think the mods will come sooner and sooner, the SS/TC LNF 2.0L took chevy into a new division, beating Nuremberg track records.

So let's see start at 260HP, I bet you'll see over 300 HP out of these cars!

I want to go test drive one now for the hell of it... lets see how 260hp compares with 450+ lol. I just really want to see what this launch control and no lift shift nonsense feel.

I really dont get it........... So many people hating on the new SS/tc, yet every magazine out there
rates the car amazing. Sport Comapact Car even went as far as saying its the american "type r"!
So you drive a 280hp car............. Of course a 260hp is going to seem slow.............
My 400hp WRX(rip) was fast but i'm not going to compare a tuned car to a stock car....

Just my 2 cents....

I don't think anyone should want to switch cars all that easy anyways. I grow pretty attached to even the shittiest of cars. It was hard to say goodbye to my '89 Chevy Celebrity when it was stolen and wrecked.

If you bought a Cobalt and modded it, you shouldn't want to switch anyways, and no one expects you to. Even if you current car was slower than a T/C you shouldn't jsut want to dump your car. As soon as I get my '09 I'm sure they're announcing the '10s will be better, oh well, I'll grow attached to my car nonetheless and not want to switch.

However, the S/C owners are getting a little brow beaten with the unabashed T/C love in this forum. But this is what this part of the forum is for: 08-09 information and mutual masturbation. So...uh...get over it?
