gmpp performance exhaust driving me nuts

hey guys,

I've had my GMPP performance exhaust on for about a year now and I'm really getting sick of its loudness. It was a great bump in power, but it drowns out the screaming of the supercharger/intake combo. Plus, anytime I have guests riding along, they complain that the car is ridiculously loud, with the exhaust notes boring directly into the brain, especially on longer rides. I agree with them that it's hard to even have a conversation in this car without the exhaust having its say. Maybe thats just me getting older (29 now) and not wanting to announce myself everywhere I go. Who knows. Anyway, my question is, does anyone have any direct input as to the noise difference in the performance gmpp vs the touring? Tried to find some high quality sound clips comparing the two, but havent had much luck. I'm thinking about switching.

Don't know if you've tried these clips yet but here you go. https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/general-cobalt-68/gm-performance-parts-sale-37211/
(Scroll down to post #19. Tom from createenginedepot has the clip)
I have the touring exhaust, GMPP intake and ehaust manifold. I can ALWAYS hear the intake over the exhaust. outside the car and inside. considering its the same performance gain maybe you should get the touring.

Wow something is incredibly wrong with your exhaust. I cannot even hear my performance exhaust *well barely* when cruising at 80mph (3k rpm), and I can CERTAINLY hear my supercharger! You must have a hole somewhere pre-cat.

lets put it this way, i was on the highway, having a convo with my dad, and the radio barely on cause hes an old man. the exhaust didnt drain out any of that noise unless i got on it hard.

same deal...you have an exhaust leak somewhere or else you have super sensitive ears.... most 6cyl cars are much louder than the GMPP exhaust on our ecotecs. and i dont mean like 350Z 6 cyls, i mean like charger SXT, light SUVs, etc.

I put on the zzp whisper resonator, and it quiets it down extremely!! yes there is a difference in power, but it got rid of the nasty rasp and i can hear my supercharger again! this will definitely do the trick!

Yeah, man, you've REALLY got an exhaust leak somewhere. When I get on it you can't even hear the exhaust for the supercharger whine and cruising at 65 or so you can't even hear the exhaust unless I downshift. What you're describing sounds like my boyfriend's car with an open header.....so check around - I think you have a MAJOR leak somewhere.

I've had it checked over. No leaks whatsoever. It doesn't sound like it has a leak. The hole/opening in a leaky exhaust can always be heard as the area of the leak produces a much more focal noise. Mine is just loud in general. It's always been kinda loud, I guess. More so when it was fully broken in. Not that I think it's uncool, but it's just not for me anymore. I'd rather be stealthy than forward and loud lol. I'm really thinking about switching. Not sure if the ZZP resonator is a good idea as it will just take away the power gain. Anyway, if anyone knows of any high quality sound clips of the touring, please let me know.

What's happening man, I've never seen your ride around I don't think,,,

Anyways, I bought the Megan, and have the same problem,,, I'm only 25, but it's too loud for my tastes. I'm looking at different muffler options, and have even considered a dual system to quiet things down a bit. I miss the whine

Anyways, what all do you hve done to the balt?

EDIT: Tried some reading: I might look into the ZZP whisper resonator, but I still think a different muffler is called for, My Megan is garbage, lol

It's really only loud when you stomp on the gas. I can still hear the supercharger whine over my gmpp exhaust. It sounds more beefy with the exhaust. isnt the gmpp touring/performance the quietest two you can get?

Probably, I think they're the only two 2.25" exhausts on the market,, aren't they? (other than the pacesetter garbage)

I actually agree that the gmpp performance exhaust eventually gets too loud. I too have been recently annoyed by how loud it is. It sounds fantastic when I drive spirited don't get me wrong but when im driving at 5 in the morning come to a stop then go again it is just too loud. No leaks here either and it sounds fantastic at idle just to loud overall.

Yeah, i've been in EL for the past 4 years. Just graduated from vet school this year and moved out of MI. Live in Syracuse, NY now.

I really miss the whine too. Exhaust just drowns everything out and makes it sound like every other high performing 4 banger with an exhaust. I had my stock exhaust on for a while with the stage2 and intake and it sounded so badass. A very unique tune that definitely turned heads. I'm switching to the touring. The performance is not for me. Keep your eyes on ebay guys. My gmpp performance will be on there in a few weeks and i wont be pricing it high at all (like 300 tops).

I agree with just about everyone else, you have to have a leak or something else wrong with your exhaust. I had the GMPP Performance for three months before I put on my header/dp and I had no issues with sound, highway driving or otherwise. The only issues I have with it now are that highway driving it is a little too loud, but that's because of the header/dp, not the exhaust.

I just don't get it... With the windows up in my car, and normal acceleration, you basically CAN'T hear the GMPP Performance exhaust. Especially city driving when there is so much backround noise.

Driving home late at night when it's all quiet, you can hear it a little bit under normal acceleration. But otherwise no.

Maybe you are a "spirited" driver in which case if you're always accelerating quickly then yah you will hear it.

yeah I think my GMPP performance exhaust is a tad too loud also. I have gotten used to it, but from the way you are talking... yours is louder than mine. Mine is nice until WOT or going thru a tunnel (where I have to WOT) where it really resonates and I have to duck my head and act like it's not me
On the highway my car is not too loud... conversations can be easily heard!

maybe you have a faulty muffler?

I usually have the radio cranked so I dont notice it, but with someone in the car Trying to have a conversation it was hard..Ive noticed its gotten alot louder since Ive had it tho.. when in gun it I still hear the SC screaming too...

I love the sound of my GMPP sport exhaust. I also have a GM header and ZZP down pipe. It sounds so awesome and I can still talk and hear the radio when the windows are up. Its not that loud. You must have a leak somewhere.

How are you supposed to know if you have an exhaust leak anyways? Will it be louder than normal?

if you dont have a leak put a whisper resonator on it, it will make it alot better!
