Mid-ohio Koni challenge is on right now just wondering if you guys know the mods(ie. tune for ecu) of the cobalts they have there. I know they arent allowed aftermarket exahust/intake and are supposed to use stock suspension or aftermarket springs. Just wondering what the cobalts are pushing right now.

They are pretty much stock as far as the motor. Except that they are limited to only 15psi and make 150hp +/- 10% or so. They weigh around 2700 pounds (carbon fiber hood, trunk, doors, and spoiler insert) the other cars in that race weigh between either 2100 or 2200 pound up to 3100 pounds for the AWD's. The cobalts are actually on the heavy end because they are restricted on how much weight reduction they are allowed to do. The interior is gutted with a full roll cage and race seat setup. They all run Koni fully adjustable shocks (hence, Koni challenge
). They run the SS/SC brakes, all the cobalts started the year as SC's and they converted to turbo's mid year, they restriced the turbo brakes because the cobalts do to well with just the SS/SC brakes. The exhaust they said is cat-less and they said they found a non-restrictive muffler setup that keeps the cars quiet. From 200 ft away with no other cars around you can barely hear those race cars when they go wide open throttle, as opposed to the Civic's and RX-8's which make your whole body vibrate in the same instance. The cobalts by the way keep pace with all those other cars comming out of turns so they are still plenty competitive with the really quiet exhausts. One of the guys from the Georgian Bay team was talking about the cooling system on the cars and said they use the supercharged cooling system with the turbo...I'm not exactly sure how he said they had it setup but it was really weird.
As for why they arn't better setup according to the race teams the series restricted the cobalts quite a bit because they were winning to much, and even as restricted as they are (such as the very low hp numbers) they are still very competitive.
Any other questions? And yes, I got to go to the VIP meet at mid-ohio hehe.

The shorter somewhat heavy set guy that was around when they first brought the yellow TC coup in said that before we went on the tour.
I also forgot to add that they have special rotors and brake pads on those SS/SC brakes.

Did you see at the end of the race the 01 car was passing 4 people on some laps? That was insane!
