.....for the car thar replaces the Cobalt , whatever GM decides to call it if they dont retain the Cobalt name .

Its quite a contrast to what we have now ....almost caddy CTS'ish .

It's OK I guess, very European though. I was really hoping for a scaled down version of the Malibu interior personally.

It really bears a striking resemblance to the Ford Verve concept interior

I like it.
The steering wheel is a tad on the ugly side though.

On second look, I dont like the door.
Looks "thrown" together.

*Edit*

Okay, on third and final look, I change my mind.
I am noticing a lot of little detail that are making it look ugly.
Its like they tried to hard, and went over board on the little details.
Like the cup around the ignition. :wtf:

From what's being said, there won't be a Cobalt anymore. If I recall correctly, GM stated that there is going to be one "global" car, that will essentially be the same car, sold in different countries, much like the Astra. And recent reports state that they are ditching the Cobalt name in favour for something else (a move I don't agree with).

The one thing I noticed, is they changed the e-brake handle from the brick shape like we have on our Cobalts, to what appears to be a more ergonomic, rubber gripped one. Perhaps General Motors ***IS*** listening to us :) But I could be wrong.

The interior looks very Malibu-esque, which I like.

I sincerely hope they are taking the Malibu approach with this car.

By that I mean, taking the class leading cars like the Civic, Corolla, and Jetta, and using them as a benchmark to make this car better in every way. It worked well with the Malibu, and should pay dividends to this car. That's the attitude they need to take, and truthfully, its long overdue.

They "benchmarked" the Jetta/Golf last time out when they designed and introduced the Cobalt. Unfortunately for GM, within a year of being on the market VW came out with their current generation cars that leapfrogged their older models (of which the Cobalt didn't really stack up that well against). The new pics look promising and if the material quality is up to par should do nicely. The competition isn't standing still so they need to do no less than that to be competitive.

The inerior doesn't look so bad, its the engine that has me highly opposing it. If they come out with an SS model that has more then a turbo'd 1.4, say a, 2.0 turbo charged with 260HP then I wouldn't mind buying it. But you all know that you will come to accept this car as we have come to accept our wonderful cobalt's. Why can't they just keep the Cobalt name... Its got good standings now, a new look and more engine options would be just fine. just don't take away the 2.4L and the SS cars. These new engines can be the replacement for the 2.2 (or the 2.4 if you really insist.)

In that they both have steering wheels, shifters, emergency brake handles and gauges?

So Chevy Ford and Honda are all going to have the same interior? I've seen spy shots from all 3 now and I swear to god they are taking pictures of the same car.

The mainstream consumer likes a flashy interior that looks expensive whether it's well-designed or not. A friend of mine has the 09 Corolla and I have an 07 Ion. Both have the same amount of cheap hard plastics inside, but his are all curvy and futuristic and that just makes it *look* awesome even though its the same stuff.

I've long considered tearing all the insides out of my Ion and wrapping them with leather/pleather just because its not hard to do, not expensive to do, and it would look sweet, but instead I'm just going to get the SS/TC and do it to that :D Piano lacquer finish for the gray center stack, you know that'd be sweet.

Anyway, GM is doing an awesome job of catching up in terms of style. Yeah, they're copying, so what? The stuff that Honda has been doing for years is successful, so why not copy it? Gets you where you need to be quickly, and once you're there then you can take it in your own direction.
