View Full Version : Tofu hits 13's!!!
Went to the track tonight, I'm VERY impressed with this car so far. With the addition of my motor mount and ZZP 3.0" pulley I went a best of 13.85 @ 101 !! Track prep was PERFECT on that run, and I only got a slight, slight amount of wheel hop @ the top of first. This leaves me to believe that once we can cure wheel hop completely, 13's won't be a problem at all. I also got a 14.0 run as well, also w/ marginal wheel hop. I am going to be purchasing the tranny mount and control arm bushings....I am confident at least a 13.6 could be had. Later in the night ricers started getting water all over the staging area, and as a result I received wheel hop (even w/ the motor mount) almost all the way through 2nd gear, and subsequently my times were slower.
Also, this was with: Stock exhaust, BALD stock tires w/ stock wheels, 1/4 tank left, all launches were done launching no more than 1,500 rpms.
Here are my slips ( in chronological order):

nice run tofu. how far do you live from the track? you seem to be practicing alot. :)
I'm about 30-45 minutes away from the 1/4 Mile (Houston Raceway Park) and about 15 minutes from the 1/8th Mile track (Houston Motorsports Park). These cars are definitely not 1/8th mile runners, so I haven't been there yet w/ the Cobalt  .
Leafy 01-30-2006, 04:32 AM Nice job Tofu!
So with the 3.0 pulley you are pushing how much boost exactly?
Looks like the stage II will be close to a second quicker in the 1/4 mile!
Darksun 01-30-2006, 04:40 AM nice Tofu Good times.
SilverSS/SC 01-30-2006, 06:08 AM Great job man , way to drive that car :) . Im dying for the dragstrips to open back up in the un-great north .
ralliartist 01-30-2006, 06:24 AM wow, very impressive times. although i don't see you pulling a 13.6 without better tires. it took that 2.0 60ft. to get it. also, notice your 330' was a 5.9 on that run. that means you got into 2nd pretty good too with minimal/no spin/hop. with radials or better, you could def. pull some sick times. but without a really good 60ft., i don't see anymore 13sec times. very impressive tho! keep it up.
wasey13 01-30-2006, 07:45 AM congrats! I was just about to put a post on who would be the first
First to do what??
Good going Tofu.
eastcoastz 01-30-2006, 08:16 AM Nice Job! Now just upgrade the exhaust.

.....
BooSSted 01-30-2006, 11:28 AM WOW, 2.0 60ft's are impressive on FWD cars without radials or slicks. I can't wait for the damn track to open now, haha.
OniMirage 01-30-2006, 11:30 AM good job I would also like to know what kinda vibration the mount is giving yah
shcwv 01-30-2006, 02:46 PM Tofu, i wanna see how i can do now that i have the transmission mount on, hell, i'll let you drive my car, hahaha
Hot Carls R/T 01-30-2006, 03:39 PM What motor mounts are you running? Also do you get lotsa vibs? Are you running the boost bypass mod with the 3" Pulley? Colin
MacG321 01-30-2006, 03:56 PM the vehicle number is different on the one slip... the one with the 14.08 run or w/e is # 225 whereas the others have the # 255?

Xenozx 01-30-2006, 07:27 PM Good job man! Very nice times.
This poly mount, does it void warranty and how hard is it to install?
victoryredss 01-30-2006, 07:31 PM he has a install post on it, didnt look hard at all. im kind of curious on those time slips?
D4u2s0t 01-30-2006, 07:35 PM good runs!! nice job bro

Not sure to be honest, my number was 255. Never even noticed that!
The ZZP motor mount did NOT give any noticeable vibration imho.

If you have any questions I'd be glad to answer them to the best of my knowledge. I assure you I'm not here to BS, I'm here to show that these cars are capable of running good times with a bit of practice; which is why I'm sure to post my timeslips and not just "say" this is what I ran.
And yes victoryredss is correct, i posted a how-to install on the motor mount. It was not difficult at all, and I don't see it voiding warranty at all.
zinner 01-30-2006, 08:37 PM Way to go Tofu!
SwizzDSMSS 01-30-2006, 08:46 PM Nice Job man. You track junky u!
D4u2s0t 01-30-2006, 08:47 PM tofu, you need to change your sig now!!
BullDog71ss 01-30-2006, 08:53 PM Sweeeeeeeet. Not bad at all, with minimal power adders to boot! These things just need to be able to get off the line without wheel hop.

How are your clutch and tranny holding up??
05_Blue_B10WN_SS 01-30-2006, 09:07 PM How are your clutch and tranny holding up??
That same thing just came to mind. I'm pretty sure your trans is good, but hows your clutch? Slipping yet? If not it probably will be very soon.
1stbluSS 01-30-2006, 09:15 PM Too me it doesn't matter if you wear your clutch out. If you are planning on going into the 300 hp range you will need another one anyhow. BTW don't mean to thread jack but there are updates on the michigan meet.
How are your clutch and tranny holding up??
Seems just fine *knock on wood*, every once and awhile I will get some clutch slippage, but easing off the accelerator slightly for a split second will usually cure it. I don't know how so many people are blowing up their transmissions and clutches, I've powershited 50+ times in this thing.
gonzo 01-30-2006, 09:35 PM Tofu you are the shit. Congrats!!!!

Mercury 02-04-2006, 02:54 PM Just a quick question, how long have you been driving manual?
This is my first manual car and I pulled off a 14.8 which I think is decent.

I've been driving standard for about..eh 3 years. Not nearly as much as some people, but I think I do a pretty good job shifting wise, I can heel toe, rev-match, powershift etc. pretty good, just from a lot of practice at the track and cone courses.
mycavisux97 02-08-2006, 11:24 AM nice run. are you planning on geting the stage kits?
Nice! This is good news for the community :cssNET:
lsjwannabe 02-08-2006, 03:20 PM Um don't think im to reatrded but what is heel toe?
MarcS 02-08-2006, 03:24 PM Um don't think im to reatrded but what is heel toe?
It's a method of rev-matching while also using the break. It's used mainly on an autoX course around hard corners when you need to change gears.
GotBoost? 02-08-2006, 03:51 PM Thanks for the support guys, no need to "envy" me, anyone can get these times with a bit of practice! :)

Man, I wish the Chevrolet had an "ACR" type package for the SS cobalt. I would love some 16's from the factory to slap some DR's on.
Nice run btw! :twothumbs

Put name here 02-16-2006, 12:36 PM Tofu, did you pull that 13.85 with out an LSD? I noticed in another post you wanted to by a Quaiffe so I assume you don't have one now.

Thanks, yes my car does not have the g85 package. It'll spin both wheels when in a straight line however! :)

Yup, that's one thing that Chevy did well on this car....equall length shafts.
All the LSD will really help with is pulling through corners. I hate it when my inside tire lights ablaze during hard cornering. :cussing:
