Some more shots of the car in red. With the sunroof, chrome door handles and foglights, this looks like a LT model maybe...

Codenamed GMX071, the next Cobalt will begin production in July or August of 2009 at the Lordstown plant. The coupe and sedan will carry the same name, but the coupe is expected to carry a sportier look with a turbo option.

We need to see the coupe before we can make judgement on it IMO.

that must be the daewoo model, because that grill is less of a malibu-styled grill. but i think it looked better in all the white pics haha the tail lights look way outta proportion to the rest of the car's rear. i like the profile, and the chris bangle looking trunk lid, but it looks like a boring sedate sedan. another corolla :thumbsdow

Looks ugly. It doesn't look like a Chevy. Looks like shit

Obviously Chevrolet’s Cobalt and the Daewoo Lacetti will not be completely identical, as each will have different styling cues on the front and rear clips, headlamps and taillights, although earlier prototypes do appear to have a grille that strongly resembles the new Malibu and upcoming Traverse.

What was that again? Just because it looks nothing like the current Cobalt doesn't make it any less of a Chevy.

Things change people...deal with it or don't buy one...plenty of others will.

This looks more in tune with Chevrolet's European designs, not the American designs. I wonder if they're purposely trotting out the car with the Euro-nose, with intent to put a more Volt-esque front end on it for the American market. Well, I hope thats what they're doing, because this car is very...run of the mill looking.

from what I can see...it looks better than the current cobalt sedan.

current cobalt sedan is the ugliest in the class.

I was over at GMI and read that apparently, GM will be announcing what the replacement name will be for the new Delta II global car on July 8th, 2008. So, I guess we won't be waiting long to find out. If I recall correctly, they stated that it will be a name that is "new", so I'm guessing Cobalt is out, along with Lacetti, Nubria, Epica, or all the other names being floated.

I'm still holding out hope that they'll hold onto the Cobalt moniker. It seems dumb to establish a name, spend all the money doing it, then throw it away four years later. Might as well have held onto Cavalier if that was their intent.

I still think Cobalt name was picked as sort of an inside joke against Dodge. I mean, with Dodge retiring the Neon name, maybe GM thought they could pick up their marketshare by naming their car after an element too ;)

I hope it isn't the new cobalt....it does look like a sentra with jetta tail lights...maybe it's the aveo or some other small car GM is planning to make???

I think we're getting "Caliber'd" here. I know how many Neon/SRT-4 owners were mortified when they introduced the Caliber, and I see a little bit of history repeating right now. Just be thankful it still looks like a car, and not the modern incarnation of a Dodge Omni :)

That's pretty good. They should call it the Epica, as in Epic Fail. ;)

I have to agree with JRelly. Just look at the new Aveo hatch. Then, do a little leg work and compare the current Aveo hatch to the current Aveo sedan. The rear overhang on the sedan is longer. Regardless of what car it is, it is still ugly. Remember that these are only pics so far. All info reported doesn't necessarily match the car in the pic, although they say it does. Sigh!!! I'm just gonna get a 09 SS/TC and call it quits for a while. It'll be 20 years before Chevy has a good compact car again.

man, with nicer wheels and a factory body kit that looks solid...itll be a sick little car.

anyone know if it may be rwd? I never saw this discussed

domin8_gt

GM and rwd compact cars don't happen anymore. GM got scared away from that by the Japanese automakers after the oil shortage in the late 70's.

This car still looks like an evolutionary step from the Epica in Europe.
