Stealership and Warranty
So I went to Hall Chevy for my inspection and I was told that my right rear shock strut was leaking so it wouldn't pass inspection. I brought the car home and had my normal service shop, RK Chevy, take it in and get it taken care of. This morning I had to bring my lug nut key over to them to get the wheels off, but they told me that it was both front struts that needed to be replaced, not the right rear. I think I'm getting jerked around on this, but also since they are replacing the front struts I need an alignment. On top of that they said that my warranty will not cover the alignment... I also think I'm getting jerked around on this too. I thought that since replacing my struts is covered by the warranty why wouldn't the the alignment be covered too since you need to do it after putting on new struts... am I wrong for thinking that?
alignment would be included in the work for replacing the struts, i think they should cover it, but i don't work for GM, so i don't know for sure.
Slowbalt, most states have that, Cali just has really gay emissions laws.

yeah its gay, and at my normal shop RK Chevy they are like 16.95, and at Hall chevy they do it for free, so its not that bad...
That what thought... I'm going to call another Dealer and see what they say... if not I'll figure out how my extended warranty works and have that pay for it...

You're totally correct. What year is your car and how many miles? Under 3-year/36,000-mile warranty the shocks and struts as well as any necessary parts/repairs associated with those are all covered. Get me more info and I can give you specific labor operations to give your adviser and tell him to shove the alignment bill up his @$$.

The car is an 07 LS. I just talked to my service advisor, and he said they are replacing the front struts, and the left rear strut. The car has about 28,000 on it but i have the 100,000 warranty. He said the struts are covered, but the alignment is not. He also said the extended warranty will not cover it, or at least he doesn't think they will. He said he would call to double check. My car will be ready today, so any info you have about this will help out very much
Very true....

Note: Your 100,000-mile warranty is for powertrain only, does not cover suspension/bushings, etc.
The labor operation you're looking to use for both front struts is E3857, and should reference E2020 for the alignment. So yes, under your manufacturer's warranty (excluding modifications done that may VOID said warranty), the alignment should be covered.

No, the system for those operation codes is only on a GM dealer system, so there's no way for me to get you that other than those numbers. Just tell the guy your cousin works for a dealership out in Wisconsin or something and gave you that info.

I will do... I called chevy, and asked them about the warranty info... not much help there either, but they told me since I'm coming up on 30,000 miles that i would need to get an alignment any way and thats why warranty does not cover it... but to me that makes no sense, because the service instructions say an alignment is needed after replacing the shock struts... it should be covered but GM is trying to get money from me.... when i go to pick the car up this afternoon i will say something about the service codes, and see what my service advisor says

Well update... I went in there and told them that I have a family member that works at a dealer in PA, and then said that he was telling me about the Service Instructions and i gave him the numbers E3758 for the struts and then i told him that in that instruction that it called for the alignment, and that the alignment was e2020. He told that the alignment was e2000 and that i needed to pay for it. I asked him to look it up and show me that the alignment was e2000, and when he did sure enough it was e2020 and he was shocked. He went on to tell me that he doesn't change to many struts under warranty, but he would be able to add the alignment to the warranty and it was all free... The only other thing that pissed me off was that my car was there since thursday, and I couldn't get a rental, because again he told me that I could only get a rental if I payed for it, or I the car needed more then 8 hours of labor on it. How can I get around that next time, and get the rental?
I was told that if they keep it over night you are entitled to a rental. My only other question is how old are you? If you are young they may be hesitant because of your age. I'm not saying that it right for them to make a decision based on your age but it's possible...
