Hello everyone! I would like to introduce our company, N2MB Racing. We make electronics for performance cars. Our base is in the SRT-4 community and you can check us out over on SRTForums here: N2MB Racing - SRT Forums - SRT4, SRT6, SRT8, SRT10 & Dodge Forum (http://www.**************/forums/f245/)

We have decided to branch out into new vehicle communities and bring our popular WOT Box product to the Cobalt.

http://www.npcompleteperformance.com/wot_box_big.JPG

Have you read about the 2008 Cobalt SS TC and drooled over the no-lift to shift and launch control features? If not, take a look at these quotes:

Rocketing to the top end is a ridiculous amount of fun in the new SS, thanks to the standard launch control and no-lift shift functions, which are also found on the less hard-core, pudgier HHR SS. Both are fairly violent events, and not lifting off the gas when you shift feels, well, ludicrous. No-lift shifts, though, coax such sweet burbles and gunfire pops from the exhaust that you just have to do them all the time. From a stop sign? No-lift shift. Getting onto the freeway? No-lift shift. In the produce section at the grocery store? Yup, no-lift shift.

Launch Control
Some cars have this, so alone, it’s not that big a deal. It’s basically traction control, but specifically tuned for drag racing. In the Cobalt, it’s implemented as an optional performance setting. You press a button on the dashboard a few times, until the instrument cluster displays “Competitive Mode” (or something like that). Then, when the vehicle is at a standstill, the display will show “Launch Control”. This is your cue to floor it. Really. Step on clutch, put in gear and floor it. The engine will stabilize at 5,100 RPM, waiting for you to let go of the clutch. Let go normally, and the car will launch forward with minimum wheel spin. Should you let go off the clutch too fast, a different algorithm will kick in, preventing wheel hop. Done properly, Launch Control will give you maximum acceleration at launch, consistently. But combine it with No-Lift Shift, and your drag race enters a different ballpark.

No-Lift Shift
This is a unique feature, and one that gives the Cobalt SS a clear advantage in racing conditions. Anyone familiar with turbocharged cars will be aware of the unmistakable sound a turbo makes when shifting gears at high revs. Every time you let go of the gas pedal to shift into a higher gear, the turbo flushes its boost. You then have to rebuild your boost on every successive gear, losing considerable time to turbo lag. The turbo spooling up and down is the sound you hear.

With No-Lift Shift, this loss of pressure is eliminated. The turbo keeps its boost throughout your trek up to 5th gear (provided you shift fast enough, I think within 0.2 seconds). But in order to do this, you have to learn to drive a little differently. Basically, you floor it, and never lift your right foot off the pedal, even as you shift (hence the name). It’s somewhat hard to do, as it goes against the way you’ve likely been driving for years. But this will keep the turbo spinning between gear changes, and will slice 0.07 seconds between every gear change. It may not seem like much, but over longer races, can translate up to a 0.5 second advantage per lap. And combined with launch control, it gives this car an easy, consistent 0-60mph time of 5.7 seconds with virtually no torque steer.

Well, drool no longer. We've come up with an add-on module that adds no-lift shifting and 2-step launch control to the Cobalt.

The No-Lift Shift feature makes no-lift shifting easy by cutting your engine's power for a very short period while you no-lift shift. It allows the synchros in your transmission to mesh easily, reducing the chance of missing a gear and damaging your transmission. It also allows you to hold boost through the shift, thereby significantly improving your E.T.

The major benefits are:

* Lower ETs
* Reduced chance of missing a gear
* More consistent, effortless shifts
* Reduced wear on the transmission
* Reduced chance of major transmission damage

The 2-Step Launch Control modulates the ignition by dropping power to individual ignition coils to hold the RPM you want to launch at. If you have a turbo, the turbo will spool up while you do this. You can use this feature for a more consistent and more powerful launch in boost!

How does the WOT Box work?

The split second that you place your foot on the clutch pedal with the throttle all the way down, a signal is sent to the WOT Box that a shift has been initiated. When the module sees the signal from the clutch switch it will reduce engine power by cutting the ignition. This helps you complete the no-lift shift easily, without getting locked out of the next gear or damaging your syncros. If you do it fast enough, you will hold boost through the shift. The result is drastically reduced E.T.s.

The drivers in our test cars describe using the WOT BOX as sitting in the car and going through the gearbox with the engine off!! All the drivers were amazed at how smooth the gearbox was. The transition from gear to gear is effortless and the boost gauge would barely show a blip between the shifts. We were able to test on an Evo8 with a laggy 60-1 turbo and managed to hold 30+ psi through every gear! Even on a stock turbo equipped Dodge SRT-4 we were able to knock 3 tenths off e.t. by simply hooking the box up. Our big turbo SRT-4 cars were able to drop up to 5-7 tenths off their E.T. with the WOT Box alone!

Now, on the SC Cobalts, your gains from no-lift shifting won't be as huge as that, but they will still be significant because your shift times will improve dramatically and you will be able to shift with less effort. Even naturally aspirated Cobalts can benefit from this!

Will the WOT Box affect normal driving?

No. The WOT Box will only activate when you are no-lift shifting. Normal shifts will be ignored and continue to work just as you expect. You won't even know its there, until you make a no-lift shift!

How do I use it?
To use the No-Lift Shift feature, keep your foot fully on the gas and shift quickly using the clutch. Keep the gas fully depressed through the shift. The WOT Box will detect the clutch switch signal and briefly cut the ignition to enable an effortless shift.

To use the 2-Step Launch Control, fully depress the clutch. Next, STOMP the gas to the floor. The engine will rev up and hold the RPM that you have set. Release the clutch while leaving the gas fully depressed to launch the car. Once the clutch is up, the 2-Step Launch Control will automatically disable and allow the engine to work normally.

Do you have videos of the WOT Box on the Cobalt?

Yes. We do... Here are 2 videos on an SS with a turbo swap:

How hard is the WOT Box to install?
The installation only involves 6 wires, and should take only about an hour to complete. A full set of installation instructions with pictures are available here:
http://www.npcompleteperformance.com-a.googlepages.com/cobaltssinstallationinstructions

These instructions are still being updated, so please bear with us and remember to check the page again before starting your installation.

What about the unburnt fuel that will be present in the exhaust while No-Lift Shifting and 2-stepping?

Every after market part comes with some extra risk of damage or some additional wear and tear on your car. It has to be that way. If there was a way to get free extra performance out of your car, the engineers would have done it already. They are pretty smart.

However, the techniques in our WOT Box are well known and well utilized, on many vehicles safely. For example, nearly all modern after market ECUs come with some form of No-Lift Shifting. What we have done is brought these features to market in a small, inexpensive add-on box for those individuals who may not want to spend thousands of dollars on a full stand-alone.

An even better example of the relative safety of this mod is that some cars are even shipping now with it as a stock feature! For example, the EVO9 has a 2-step launch control and the Chevy HHR has a 2-step launch control and no lift to shift! So, if Chevy is willing to send their cars out of the factory with it stock, they must be convinced it is a reasonable thing to do.

This is not to be confused with anti-lag, which is a system that actually forces fresh air into the exhaust to cause ignition before the turbo to keep the turbo spooled. While this does an excellent job of keeping the turbo spooled (better than no lift to shift), it causes much more wear and tear on the turbo. Here is more reading on anti-lag:
Anti-Lag System - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Lag_System)

To play devil's advocate, let's break down the risks involved in using the WOT Box. To start, the No-Lift Shift feature. I believe it causes very little additional wear and tear on the car, mainly because the amount of time that the ignition is cut is very short. It may be as low as 100 ms, which is only a few rotations of the engine at the RPMs we are shifting at. Plus, the ignition comes back on quickly and evacuates the unburnt fuel from the exhaust. Sometimes there may be a small audible pop as the unburnt fuel ignites in the exhaust. If done enough times back to back, this potentially could heat up a stock cat and cause it to fail, but it would be hard to imagine a situation where you could No-Lift Shift that many times.

On the other hand, the 2-step carries a slightly higher risk of damage to your engine, mainly to the catalytic converter. This time you are forcing less unburnt fuel into the exhaust (because the engine is still firing some of the cylinders), but you are typically doing it for a longer time. The key here is not to use the 2-step for too long and not too often. It is not a toy to make noise in the parking lot. It is meant to be used briefly before a launch at the track and then given the appropriate time after your run to allow the cat to cool. If you were to get on the 2-step and hold it for several minutes, you would probably overheat your cat and destroy it. During the development of the 2-step on the SRT-4, we did actually destroy Jay's catalytic converter. However, that was after HOURS of repeated back-to-back 2-step testing.

In conclusion, when used judiciously, these features should increase performance with minimal additional wear and tear on your engine and catalytic converter. Used inappropriately, they can cause damage. However, this is the case with all mods and drag racing in general. So, be educated about your decisions and the level of risk you are willing to take with your car.

NOTE: We highly recommend that the WOT Box be installed on cars without catalytic converters. The WOT Box is only sold for racing uses off of public roads. We cannot be responsible for damages to your catalytic converter or the rest of your car through the use of this product.

Can the dealer see that this has been installed through an ECU scan?
The dealer won't see the WOT Box through an ECU scan, but they may see the wiring for the box under the hood. They may void your warranty if they find it. We can't be responsible if they do, so install at your own risk.

Can I really use the 2-step launch control in a FWD car? Will there be enough traction?
Yes, you can make use of the 2-step to launch effectively in a FWD car. Jay's shop SRT-4 launches using the WOT Box 2-STEP at 21 PSI! However, you will need slicks to be able to do that. Street tires will be very limited with the 2-step launch, but you can dial down the 2-step launch RPM to make your street tire launches more consistent.

How long is the warranty on the WOT Box?
Our standard warranty is 3 years. More information is available on our website:
NP Complete Performance - Disclaimer (http://www.npcompleteperformance.com/disclaimer)

What if I decide to return the WOT Box?
If you decide you do not want the WOT Box, you can return it within thirty (30) days for a full refund. All original packaging must be included and the product must be in like-new condition.

Can this be purchased now or is this a beta test?

The WOT Box has been out for over a year on the SRT-4, and it was in R&D for another year before that on a half a dozen cars. It has been extensively track tested and our results are listed above and in numerous posts on SRT Forums, Youtube and our website at NP Complete Performance (http://www.n2mb.com)

Shipping will be flat rate at $9.99 for the US, $19.99 for Mexico and Canada, and $24.99 for Australia. All orders are shipped USPS Priority Mail with delivery confirmation. You will receive a tracking number at the email address used during checkout once your order ships. Email sales@n2mb.com to get a shipping quote for other countries.

If I buy a single feature WOT Box now, how can I upgrade later?

If you want to upgrade in the future there will be two options:

1. Pay the extra fee to upgrade. It will be the retail price of the single feature WOT Box ($149), and mail your box in. We will flash it and mail it back to you.

Or

2. Pay the retail price of the dual feature WOT box ($285) and we will advance ship you an extra WOT Box so that you don't have any down time. Once you have returned the single feature WOT Box we will refund the difference ($136).

If I buy a single feature WOT Box, can I try out the other feature?

Yes. Email us at support@n2mb.com and we can send you a special software load that will switch your box from one single feature to the other. If you decide you like it, we can upgrade your WOT Box to a dual feature version using the above instructions.

Can the software be upgraded without shipping the box back?

Yes. There is a serial port on the side of the WOT Box. That serial port allows you to upgrade your software as new features are released and the software is improved. We will have software upgrades posted on our site as they come out so that you can keep your WOT Box up to date with the current software.

What do I need to update the software on my WOT Box?

If you have a laptop with a serial port:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/ea/Serial_port.jpg/250px-Serial_port.jpg

Then you don't need anything. Your WOT Box will ship with the serial cable you need.

If you don't have a serial port on your laptop (many newer ones do not), you'll need a USB to Serial converter. You may have one of these already. If it has a prolific chipset, it will likely work with the WOT Box. Other chipsets may or may not work. We've found a few bad USB to Serial boxes that give us a lot of trouble.

I recommend this particular USB-to-Serial because it has the known prolific chipset and it is the same USB-to-Serial adapter that I have done all my development on.
For only $6.49 each when QTY 50+ purchased - USB to Serial Convert Cable(DB9M/USB B female converter and USB A/B cable)[SYB] | USB to Serial/Parallel Converter (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10311&cs_id=1031104&p_id=2276)

Also, it is pretty inexpensive.

Now, if you don't have access to a laptop, we're starting to make wall-plug adapters so that you can power your WOT Box inside your house and load software onto it from your desktop. The same conditions as above apply. If you have a serial port, you won't need anything other than the power cord. If you do not have a serial port, you'll also need a USB-to-Serial adapter. Contact support@n2mb.com to find out how you can order one of these adapters.

Software upgrades will be available on this page:
NP Complete Performance - WOT Box Software (http://www.npcompleteperformance.com/wotboxsoftware)

What else does the serial port do?

There is a rumor that someday I will write some windows software that will allow you to retrieve logs from the WOT Box and adjust parameters with fine precision. We will probably log things like your shift times, so you can see how fast you shift.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

Update - 7/21/08
Due to record breaking summer sales and supply shortages on key components, we have run out of stock on the WOT Box. However, we have a huge build running right now at our ISO 9001 certified, US factory. We are expecting to receive delivery of 250 WOT Boxes in about 2 weeks. So, we are going to extend the introductory pricing listed here until the end of August. We apologize for the delay. If anyone has a pending order with us and would like to cancel it, please email us at sales@n2mb.com and we will help you out. Otherwise, you do not need to do anything. Your order will ship as scheduled as soon as we receive the new shipment.

Again, we apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience.

isn't it bad to hold the car at a certain rpm like that tho? like redlining while you wait to launch, only at a lower rpm??

It's not as hard as a rev-limiter. It intelligently drops individual cylinders and then re-fires them on the next cycle. So, it ends up being smoother than the rev-limiter.

But, yes. You don't want to do this all day. Just for a second or two before you launch the car.

You'll still be able to shift faster if you don't have to take your foot off the gas, and the trans will feel smoother during the shift. The launch control will also help you be more consistent. You won't pick up 7 tenths in the quarter like our big turbo SRTs, but it should help.

It isn't programming. It's just a box. You can remove the box and install a jumper in the ignition wires, but the rest of the wires will still be there.

One last spoiler... We're currently working on adding one more feature that we will toss in for FREE if it works. That feature will be a remote RPM-based shift LED. It will be an LED that you can mount somewhere on your dash or A-pillar and it will blink or come on when you reach your desired shift point.

is this coming with the shipment?

boostaddict

guys, my car was the first cobalt to have it. the youtube videos showing the tach holding the rpm is my car. all I have to say is that it's well worth it. If you have the money, invest in this. Definitey one of the best mods you can do. You can build all kinds of power, but if you can't get the launch down, what's the point? Coming from the guy who's car was the guinea pig, do it. you won't be disappointed. They are good guys and this is a great product.

Jay, just something I'd like to throw in...if you unplug the box and take it with you, whenever you leave the car, like taking off a radio faceplate, the car can't be stolen. It won't start without the box. Granted, someone can bypass wires, but it would take them way too long so they'd give up and leave your car. I know that the WOT box wasn't designed to be an anti-theft device, but it helps all the same. lol it's like taking the pcm with you

:twothumbs for good guys and a solid deal!!

ps Jay & Jon...I'm looking for that LED shift light from that spoiler...hook it up! :twothumbs

Not yet. I haven't been able to get it done. I'll work on it soon. We'll probably just supply the software upgrade for it, and it will be BYO LED. Or we'll supply an LED and cable for something like $5.

Let me Jump in here-

All,

I was one of the first to have this little beauty, its a fantastic piece that much easyer to install then one might think.

i HATE wiring, but with Jon's simple instructions of "connect the WOT Box Yellow wire to the ECM's Brown wire at pin 48" along with pictures. its idiot prof.

I went for the dual function box, for a few reasons. most are because of my laggy T4 based 60-1 turbo.

for the SC guys, get the no lift shift box, not only is it pure freekin fun to play with but slammin gears just got much easier, safer, and FASTER!

the trans feels so much smoother gate-to-gate.

however i will say, that even on an SC car, the 2-step is about as much fun as one can have in a car.

want to intimidate some poor sap at a stop light, knock the car off the 2-step for a moment and watch him curl his tail between his legs.

This sounds pretty good and I'm quite interested in it myself but I do have a couple of questions.

1. Is this box ment for those who visit the track?
2. If not, what benifits if any does each feature have when installed on a daily driver?

It best shines on the track, but you'll enjoy it on a daily driver. You'll be able to shift quicker and easier and stay in WOT.

Take a look at the 2008 SS TC reviews:
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/hot_lists/high_performance/sport_compacts/2008_chevrolet_cobalt_ss_first_drive_review
http://www.ohgizmo.com/2008/03/10/the-2008-cobalt-ss-a-hair-raisin-gut-wrenchin-racing-machine-you-can-actually-afford/

They talk about how much they enjoy the no-lift shift and launch control. Ours is basically the same, except implemented as an add-on module.

If you want just no-lift shifting, get the no-lift shift ONLY WOT Box
If you want just 2-step launch control, get the 2-step launch control ONLY WOT Box

If you want both features, get the WOT Box with no-lift shift AND 2-step launch control...

That's the idea. We want a big rush of orders initially. Then when you guys (the early adopters) install your WOT Boxes, you'll post up reviews and tell your friends, and you'll help get out the word faster. You are the seeds of the revolution! :guns:

so what will happen to the early adaptors? will you ship us out the add on or what?

If it works and you want it, then sure. I am concerned that one LED might not be bright enough, and that is all the drive we have available through the serial port...

So the explain this launch control a bit more? how easy is it to mess up my car with the launch control? also what do you mean by two step? also does the wiring dif. between the two versions?

It can mess up your catalytic converter, if you do it too long. You should only need it for a few seconds while launching.

The wiring is the same for all the versions. However, if you get just the no-lift shift you COULD leave out the yellow wire. But, then any future features that we come up with that require RPM won't work... So, I recommend that everyone connects the yellow wire.

It's called 2-step launch control because you stomp both feet.

From AEM:
(Full Throttle, Clutch In, you use both feet, 2 step, get it?)

For a car like mine it will be. I have absolutely no need for a 2-step. My car is supercharged, I manage boost by how hard I hit the gas. I WOT shift without a special ecu thing, and when I run at the track my times are ALWAYS within .2-.3 of each other. Its called driver skill. However, driver skill can't make a group of people run away from the gun shots coming from the back of your car :guns:

I'm totally going to buy this, and make a tune call "Car show tune". Set the 2-step to like 6000-6500, and set the tune to run like 10:1 or 10.5:1 AFR so there is TONS of unburned fuel dumpin out the exhaust. Man, the explosions will be heard for miles, and seen 20-30 feet away

Perfect example of what I shall do!!! :D

Driver skill? 14's at 110 mph isn't skill lol.
Damn I had to go there.
Anyway, I trying to get to the track hopefully by next week. Moving this weekend so everything is all screwed up, plus they have events at E-town this weekend and I'll be at pinks next weekend in support of my friends SRT-4 (who btw has the n2mb WOT box too lol) I'll be there video camera in hand.

I can't wait to get back in my car and play with the WOT shift delay a bit more.

List updated. Orders #1-12 have shipped. Orders #13-15 are on deck... Might make it today, might be tomorrow.

ALSO: Important note that I forgot to mention. We were not able to include printed directions in the boxes. We figured you would rather get the WOT Boxes sooner than wait around for me to finish making up printable directions. Also, we're out of printer toner...:thumbsdow

So, you'll have to refer to the directions on our website for the instructions:
http://www.npcompleteperformance.com/cobaltssinstallationinstructions

Plus, the website is always the best place to check, since it will have a lot more pictures of the install. We tend to not include the pictures for every step in the printed directions. Otherwise we'd be buying toner every week!

If you're really offended by the lack of paper, I'll mail you a copy once I finish them up this weekend....

Ok, sorry for the confusion. They were talking about adjusting the PE table to blow better fireballs, which I disapprove of. :thumbsdow So much hard engineering work to fine tune the control system.... ... but, it's ok.... You can do whatever you want with the WOT Box.

The WOT Box does not require any tuning or any adjustments to your fueling or ignition. It is universal. Just hook it up and go.

Right now it will work on ANY 4-cylinder car with coil-on-plug ignition, a clutch switch (cruise control) and a throttle position sensor or accelerator pedal position sensor.

We're working on extending that to 6-cylinders and 8 cylinders, and eliminating the requirement for the coil-on-plug ignition... But for now, that supports a huge variety of cars....

http://www.npcompleteperformance.com/wotboxsoftware

and where is my tracking number?

Yeah, it's on my list of things to do... It will probably happen over the winter. It's not a huge priority, since even with the slow old serial the firmware upgrades only take about 3-4 seconds... But the main annoying factor is that you have to use a laptop since serial can't provide power. So, if you have only a desktop, it can be a pain to upgrade. Contact us if that is the case and we can send you a wall-power adapter for the WOT Box.

For now, we recommend that $6 USB to serial that we linked on our website. I'm going to evaluate an even cheaper one and see if it works.

Your software is available here:
http://www.npcompleteperformance.com-a.googlepages.com/wotboxsoftware4

I haven't linked to it yet. There are no updates at this time, everyone who purchased in this GB will get the latest software, version 2.3.

PM me the name you ordered from and I will send you your tracking number. Paypal should have emailed it to you. Did they not?

22psi by 4300 rpm under load, no load= no boost on a big turbo my man. Eh it's better that way anyway, car won't hook at only 4 psi of boost let alone 20 lol

You should be able to spool the turbo up some on the 2-step. Try a higher RPM. Jay was able to get 21 lbs on the 2-step on an SRT with the S3 turbo. Of course, some might say that is still a small turbo... Of course, you also need to have traction if you want 21 lbs at launch....

Since you don't need it right now (there is no new software upgrade for the Cobalt yet), I would recommend getting it online. Best Buy and CC will rape you for it. They want something like $40 and I have had problems with their branded USB - to -Serial not working.

This is the one I recommend:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=103&cp_id=10311&cs_id=1031104&p_id=2276

You can get it out the door for just over $10 shipped.

I'm going to try this one:

And I'll let you guys know if it works and if the merchant seems reasonable. We may start stocking them for you.

so i know its been kind of answered but not really, when does the launch control cut off? when the clutch is fully engaged? when I move the clutch at all? I ask b/c I am going to be on street tires for some time now, and will upgrade to sticker street tires so I want to know how much feathering of the clutch I can do with the launch control.

phrozen

The launch control cuts off whenever your clutch pedal position switch opens again. That usually happens pretty close to the top of the travel. Usually less than 1" from the top.

You may be able to adjust it as well. On the SRT, I believe the switch position was adjustable, if you didn't like where it was triggering. But, this varies car to car.

There's a new chart that goes along with firmware 2.3 (which is what you guys have):

I need to update the user's guide... If you try to change the RPM, you should notice that it is 1000 RPM lower than posted on the original guide...

Same thing. It's just shifting while keeping your foot on the gas.

yea me too. i dont like the soddering part. i wonder if i can just do wire taps instead

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend them either. If they work loose from all the vibration you could have some wacky stuff, like the 2-step engaging in gear.... Not good. Make the connections solid and solder them.

well crap.

then again. the pink wire is a universal gm coil signal anyways

The pink wire is the power to all the ignition coils. We cut power to the coils, so it has to be cut and the WOT Box RED / BLACK wires spliced in.

Should be. The test car was an 06, I believe. For the coil power, go by the pin location, not the wire color. That might vary a bit...

im positive mine has the 2.2 on it bro. i had it set on 1 blink and it was 3,000.

Hmmm.... That is odd... Maybe Jay flashed them accidentally with 2.2?

Ok.... Well, if you want the lower 2-step RPMs then you should upgrade to version 2.3....
http://www.npcompleteperformance.com/wotboxsoftware4

Ok, it looks like Jay read the site wrong and loaded everyone with 2.2 instead of 2.3. The differences are minor and you can upgrade your WOT Box yourself, if you want to. I've added a link to the firmware page for the Cobalt on the Software upgrades page:

http://www.npcompleteperformance.com/wotboxsoftware

Sorry about that. All new orders will be shipping with 2.3 now...

-I'm going to assume I can't update the software off the Mac platform can I? I'll have to duel boot into windows? Am I correct in this assumption? (Nevermind, I realize it's a .exe file now. Boo for lack of mac support)

-Where do we go to get the power cord again? The only way I'm going to be able to update mine is in the house. No lappy for me.

-Will the 2-step activate while the car is in motion? I.E. Can we build boost before dropping down the clutch? Give the car a little extra "oompf" to get past someone on the highway?

In that case, the car already has a load on it, you could just step down and let the car boost up, it won't take long. The reason for the two step is that you can't get the turbo to spool by just revving an engine that is unloaded, it takes so little throttle opening to rev the car up that it can't get enough air to spool. The 2-step lets you hold the throttle wide open and controls the rpms of the engine, letting you get boost before placing the car under load (launching)

In the 2.2 release, you could 2-step while the car was in motion. In the 2.3 release, I disabled that to prevent it from inadvertently activating on a hard downshift. In the next release, I will make the lock-out a programmable option so that people can choose to turn it on or off.

Let me explain it better, in the newest release, there is a 1500 RPM lockout. The lockout requires that the engine be below 1500 RPM before you go into WOT with the clutch down before the 2-step will activate. If you are above 1500 RPM (i.e. you are moving, it won't activate).

So how many 2.2 were sent out?

Everything that shipped so far.

You'll know which one you have when you fire up the 2-step and set it to one blink and it does 2000 rpm or 3000 rpm.

Also, if you open the serial port in hyperterminal and push the letter 'v' it will spit out the version number...

Yeah, it will blink back the code it just set to confirm. If it doesn't blink back 1, then you set 0.

0 means disabled...

So for safety's sake, the first time set 2 blinks which should be 3200 rpm or 2200 rpm... That way you can't get it wrong... It will either set 1 or 2 and it will blink back to confirm.

well, me, stryder, and ssmokin just installed this thing in my car tonight. everthing was soldered perfectly and every wire was wire loomed. a very very clean install. that doesnt mean shit when the fucking doesnt work.

i turn the key to on, push in the gas, the light blinks
i push in the gas and then the clutch and keeps blinking, doesnt go out doesnt do shit. we did a voltage reading, it from 12-0 volts when clutch was depressed and it kept going from 12 to every fuckin volt, shooting everywhere sometimes.... so wtf??? we did everything perfect, we rechecked, double checked and checked again. nothing. pretty gay
