No washing cars outside in NJ in 2009?

Anyone else been hearing this BS. They are trying to make a law that you will not be able to wash your own car in your own driveway in NJ. They are saying that the runoff from soap and dirt goes into the storm drains and then into the lakes and rivers. What a joke. I hate this state.

Don't worry if the precedent is set there, California, New York etc won't be far behind.

Yea seriously. My mom was reading about it in the Asbury Park press a couple days ago. They were also talking about it on 101.5 this morning.

Thing is people keep saying that you can easily buy "well safe" soap. So what exactly would washing your car put into the water supply that simply having your car rained on wouldnt. It is probaly a way for the gov to buy car washs and charge a crap load of money. Im hoping it really doesnt go through, but its sounding like it is.

I would imagine more people would build with concrete block. Mine's concrete block with a drain and separate storage in the back. If something like this were to go mainstream, you better believe when I buy a house I'd build my garage the same way.

Yea, ill basically be washing it. F the gov. I bet they are actually counting on people still washing so they can fine them 1000 bucks and make some money. Its always about money when it comes to the NJ Gov.

If i have too ill have to pay to use the self wash carwash. No way does a drivethrough carwash clean my wheels good enough.

That's stupid. ******* gov and their stupid laws. Who would want to go to a freakin car wash for like 10 bucks and doesn't even clean your car and it will just scratch the clearcoat? The bad thing is that if that law passes other states will start doing the same.

The radio said that supposably other places do it. Maybe not whole states, but some counties. They didnt really give an speciffics though. The local paper said this would go into effect in like 4 years, but the radio this morning said 2009. So im kinda confused. No one seems to have any definate info yet.

I am a stormwater engineer. Water quality is becoming a huge deal and I absolutely hate it. Makes my job that much harder. I'd say class action lawsuit that for lost money due to expensive car washes

Not being able to wash your car, that's un-American!

But there's a simple loophole to this law. They just don't want the water running down your driveway and into the storm drains, right? So just pull your car over into your lawn and wash it. The ground absorbs the water and there's no run off. I always wash my car in the grass, never caused any damage.

Yea, from what I could make out they only said "driveways". So basically ill pull onto the grass on the side of the driveway and wash all day. If you cant even wash on the grass then there goes washing anything outside. No washing outdoor chairs and tables or grills or anything. Making people use a certain type of chemical free soap i can understand. But no washing outside period is just stupid. I think the only way this may pass is because the EPA is doing it. Its not really the NJ gov, or else thered be a vote on it.

We're not allowed to wash cars in the street here. Has to be done in your driveway.

god for bid the dirt from the ground, that got onto your car, get washed back onto the ground. thats the dumbest thing I ever heard off. And i think if there worried about water quality, they should look to other people and places before they focus on people washing cars.
