What can you squeeze out of a S2 tune

So , I contacted WickedSS but he hasnt got back to me yet. So thought I would ask here to see if I should hold onto this money for a bit until he does, and dont blow on something else for the car. I think im done for a bit performance wise as my girl is getting kinda pissed lol . So my question is what can a good tuner squeeze out of a S2 tune with my current mods and would it be worth it?

Mods: Stage 2 tune, 42# Injectors, Nates 3.0 pulley, NGK plugs, Megan Racing Catback, ZZP downpipe, Air box mod.

Thanks in advance

Thats a good question, Scott. We're going to play around with my 06 Cobalt SS on my Mustang Chassis Dyno, and see what we can get out of it using our EFIlive software. We pick up 15 rwhp on stock late model GTO's with just retuning the car, it will be interesting to see what we can do on my Cobalt. Bob

if you have the money, get some 60's and drop the pulley size a little (~2.9), then get someone who can tune well. Promise you'll feel way different about how the car moves. Shouldn't cost you too much for the parts either.

Not sure if it was the tune or just time at the track, but my average went from 14.3's to 14.0's. All I did was up the timing and maintain 11.3 AFR. If somebody has any suggestion on what els to tune I'd love to hear it.

Man, you didn't waste any time getting it installed! No, I don't have a silencer for it, that is how it came on my car. I'll let you know what tuning dos to my car. Thanks. Bob

I've read 11.3 is safest, plus without any cooling mods yet not quite brave enough for 11.8.

Maybe next time I hit the track I'll slowly lean it out and see if I can get to 11.8.....

well im on a meth tune so im obviously looking for the most power i can get, when you get up to my mods nothing is really safe anymore but yeah 11.8 your good to go... 11.3 is definitly a little rich imo a 11.5 or 11.6 if your looking for a little safty, anything in the 12's is bad (but doesent mean its gonna blow) 12's get the egt climbing really fast and area47 said he can garentee anything above 12.5 and the car stops making power...

leaner is meaner, but only to a point and 12.5 is it i guess...

whats the highest timing your seeing in the top end???

do you ever get any knock? if not you might wanna bump up the timing till you see just the slightest kr then back off 2* i wouldent be suprised if you run up to 4-6* more than stage 2, that alone will give you around 10whp maybe more maybe less...

wait you already upped it huh? so what are you runing right now?

11.3 is not too rich, unless you are running meth. mid 11s is a good spot for our cars.

from the S2 tune, with those mods, id be dissapointed if i didnt find 10-15whp at least.

S2 is very conservative.

also, remember that commanded afr doesnt always = actual afr. check your wideband readings.

id say you could pull 10hp out of it with a good tune... but more importantly its the little extras you can do like turning on your ic pump longer and running your fans longer and turning your boost down and all the other fun stuff

That might be worth the money, that is what I was hoping for. Also, for those of you who have cut boost in first. Do you like it, did it help with the wheelhop / traction?

I squeezed 8whp out of an 06 last weekend with stage 2. I have squeezed as much as 20whp out of other setups.

The real problems are in the fueling. All cobalts depending on mods will have messed up AFRs all over the screen. Getting those figured out will not onlt gain you power, but reliability and gas mileage too.

Well first of all this guy had Stage 2 tune, stage 2 injectors. Nate's 2.9" pulley. Injen intake, header, highflow cat, and Megan exhaust.

His AFRs on the dyno were 13.5 at WOT! He would have been burning his pistons up fast. I retuned him and set hima round 11.7 AFR and tweaked other things. I could have gotten more power out of his car, but it was more about tuning what we had, not trying to make it ***** to the walls. He can thank me later for having a decent running engine :-)

i was running 9s with piston protection, COT, and the shitty s2 tune.

Luckily i used Bika's method and felt a huge power gain just by commanding 12s up to 3,000 RPM then down to 11.5 to 6,750 RPM then on down to 11.0 7500.

I like to keep reliability around
