View Full Version : Drop in boost!?

Okay, I have been noticing recently that (mostly on the highway) when I go to accelerate hard my boost starts off by jumping to 16-17 like normal. It stays at 16-17psi for a bit, but then I notice it drops back to 10 or below. Is this normal during hard acceleration (3/4 throttle or more)? I dont have much experience with turbos so I dont know. I have heard that the turbo adjusts itself to make a consistent 260hp, but it seems strange that it would be dumping boost that significantly during acceleration. Any advice?

It isn't going to hold that boost that high in the revs. It is normal for a turbo car with a stock turbo to drop some boost higher in the rpms.

how does the car feel up top? does it seem to be pulling normal?

That is pretty much exactly what I am experiencing. Here is my thread:

I do notice a power loss when it drops to 10 PSI. I hope this isn't normal among the SS/TC models. What temperature was it outside when you had this problem?

I think most have felt a pulling of timing from the car trying to match the 260 HP that it's required to stay at.

we just got in a 08 hhr ss turbo and when me and the tech went to drive it, it worked very well then when i hit the gas again it did the same thing as you said, but the ses light came on. is the ses light on in your car. with us it ended up being a code for turbocharger overboost, simply got rid of it, drove it and it was fine.

actually I tried paying attention w/ mine today after work

my boost actually started increasing near redline from 15 to ~17-18

dropping to 10 definitely is a problem

there is no way it should be dropping, on a stock or even mildly modded ss/tc there is no way you are using that much air. Blame the ecu that turbo should have no problem keeping up.

^^ ditto.... mine usually stays at 15 but once im near redline it rised to about 17-18

Ok, I just read in a different thread that there is a "green tune" in the ECU that goes away after the first 1000 miles. I'm assuming this means that the car has some sort of protection until after 1000 miles. If this is true, it could explain some of our trouble. I just read it so I'm really not sure if it is true or has anything to do with this.

hmmm... my car is in the shop for a lack of power/hesitation. they seem to think the wastegate is the problem. they relearned the wastegate by removing the batt. terminals and touching them together. will see on monday if this was the problem. my car has about 700 on it. cars with less than 1000 seem to be running ok so I feel there is a problem.

It will only spark if it's connected to the battery. Touching the cables together off the battery is a good way to clear and residual charge and then basically reset the Computer. Had to do this to LS1's from time to time.
