anyone been there? me and a buddy from work are taking a fishing trip there. he's been up to caeser's lodge 3 times already, at different lakes. should be pretty kick ass, we're leaving tomorrow. just wondering if anyone had been there, and their experience.

my friend showed me his pics from last year, some crazy ass fish. everything you catch up that way looks like it should be in a fishing magazine. i'm not crazy into fishing, but i enjoy it, and think it will be nice to get away from everything for a few days.

plus, i'll be taking my video camera and making a kick ass video out of it when i get back.

wasn't humid at all, but it rained like a mofo! bugs were not bad at all though. and the fish were biting like crazy! we ate walleye every day, and the pike were decent, most of them were 28-30". a few were bigger too. but yea, it was pretty sweet. video will be up in a few days.

so on this trip, about a million things went wrong, but all in all we still had a great time. first, we get up through montreal, traffic out the ass. the lodge is about 7 1/2 hours north of montreal, and once we got through the city there was empty roads, which helped cut back. we had to drive a while down a dirt road, which the lodge assured us was a pretty good one. it was supposed to be about 45 miles, and they said you can do 60 down it no problem in a truck. so we get off of 117, and the dirt road started about 3km up the road. we had 106km on that road, and 45 miles down one that was even worse. we got about 30km, and said fuck that. it was like driving over constand speed bumps and rumble strips, and that was the "good" part. we couldn't go any more than 15-20 mph, and at that rate it would have taken an extra 6-7 hours to get down that road. after one hour, we all had headaches, it was rediculous. so we turned around, and figured we'd pitch a tent on the side of the road. yea, right. we got out, and the bugs almost carried us away after about 10 seconds. then we figured we'd go into "Town" and find a hotel, and deal with it in the morning. after 17 hours in the car, we were exhausted. the first hotel, in mont laurier, the guy was a step up from a mongoliod. we asked if he had any rooms, and he just pionted down the road and said "G G G G G G G G G G G " for about 30 seconds. 3 hotels later, we found a room. we call ceasers, and asked if they could pick us up from st. veronique. they didn't want to do that. well, they would, but for an extra $1500. fuck that. so at this point we're in the middle of quebec, thinking we have no where to go. so we call to the lil "airport" at st. veronique, air mt laurier or something like that. my buddies granpda remembers from the last time they flew there that they had their own outposts as well. the guys says come on down, we'll fly you out right away. so we get there, and they treat us like kings. we're short on cash, and the guys just said whatever, send me a check when you get home since they didn't take credit cards. the guys there unload the truck, pack up the plane, and we're on the way.

cabin was extremely primitive, which we were expecting. running water, but from the lake, and 2 propane lights. the cabin is sitting on a few logs, and if you moved to quickly the whole thing felt like it was going to tip over. it was made out of plywood and 2x4's.

so we're out fishing, having a great time, blah blah blah. turns out the oven won't shut off, and it doesn't close. so we had 500 degree air coming through our 300 sq foot cabin for an entire dy and night. it was about 50 degrees out, we had all the windows open, and it felt like a sauna. the next day the guide stops by to check on us, make sure we have enough gas for the boats, and walks in and is like holy fuck, it's hot! he takes a look, and says the cabin is not safe, we have to move you. so we pack all our shit, put it in our boats, and move to another cabin. get set up there, and this one works perfectly.

so we're out fishing, and the friggin e.p.a. gives us shit, the airport gave us catch and release licenses and our group had fish in the boat. it's $200 per fish fine  he called the outfitter and the guy told him to give him a fucking break, we had been through hell, and if he gives us a fine they'll never see us again. so he let us go with a warning that time. they were dicks though. the entire time, we saw 2 boats on the lake, so we couldn't even figure out why the e.p.a. was there.

anyways, my fingers hurt from typing now, and i'm going to take a real shower and go start working on the video. maybe i'll finish this later, i doubt anyone will read the whole thing though

that is quite the story no offense to any one from Quebec but from being there a few times now i have found that if you walk in and dont make an honest attempt to communicate with them in french they wont even give you the time of day. then their are others that will as you say treat you like an absolute king i don't get it. but yah sounds like you encountered both types of people up there and at least have a decent story to tell now :P

yea, there's alot more, i just don't feel like typing it yet. there were wild indians about 10 minutes up the lake, so we had to watch out to make sure they didn't steal our gas too. that was kinda wack. there's so much more, and i'll get to it eventually.

the people we dealt with overall were pretty accomodating. at the restaurant, one of the guys spoke a little english, and he was helpful. at the airport, they spoke perfect english so that was a breeze. we stopped at a subway for a sandwich though, and that was a nightmare. no one spoke english, so that was a bitch. the guy at the cabin that came to check on us was real nice too, he helped us out no questions asked with anything we needed. so i mean ti was a good trip, minus all the issues, which i haven't even begun to cover here.
