View Full Version : custom tune = no warranty ? maxuniman 07-23-2008, 04:54 PM I was talking with one of my friends and he said that if I was to go and put on a cat back and intake and downpipe that shud b ok for warranty. but If I get it tuned my warranty would be gone. true or false ? D4u2s0t 07-23-2008, 04:56 PM if you're concerned with warranty, stay stock. in theory, there's no such thing as a total warranty "void". in the real world, where the dealers don't want to do warranty work, any little thing can and will void your warranty. so if it's something you're worried about, best bet is to just stay stock. plaxton 07-23-2008, 04:56 PM true. the stealership will hang you out to dry if they catch you with a customer tune krispy 07-23-2008, 04:58 PM oooooh yea, a custom tune will almost certainly instantly void your powertrain warranty if they catch you Darkmanx 07-23-2008, 05:08 PM someone posted a thead a while ago with all the cars that gm is looking for tuned ecu's with now at the dealership when they take them in for warranty for. KillerBee 07-23-2008, 05:14 PM only tune that is covered under warrenty is the one from the dealership them selves Mudcrutch 07-23-2008, 05:15 PM Varies by dealer. Letting them know you have a "Stage II tune" (that keeps the warranty) may have them overlook the fact that it is not the exact GM Stage II tune. 1WhiteSSTC 07-23-2008, 05:16 PM One of the new SS/TC Vendors said they were gunna make the tuning software so u could put it back to stock b4 going to the dealership for warrenty ect......anyone wanna chime in on this? This is very true we can now see past history of all programming events on modules, we never have issues with people tuning their cars it is the diesel trucks we have some come in blown to shit and we find out it was a aftermarket tune, GM then says tooo bad and they have to pay for it 1WhiteSSTC 07-23-2008, 06:19 PM This is very true we can now see past history of all programming events on modules, we never have issues with people tuning their cars it is the diesel trucks we have some come in blown to shit and we find out it was a aftermarket tune, GM then says tooo bad and they have to pay for it I should hope so, those trucks burn up so much gas and ppl who can afford them sure as hell can afford to fix anything wrong with it. All we can hope is that GM comes out with a few good stage kits backed with warrenty. Think of it this way, the ss/sc stage 2 plus intake/exhaust turned out some nice power and the few ppl who went for the smaller 2.8 pulley seem to be really happy with the power/control/handling. GM upped the handling, power, and control........so it's already as fast or faster than the ss/sc stage 2 with I/E/2.8..........I'm sure GM will drop a few decent stage kits within the next year or 2 and when they do the ss/tc will be seeing over 300whp, WITH WARRENTY :) krispy 07-23-2008, 07:42 PM given the current financial issue at GM it doesn't seem like they will be jumping right at making stage kits maxuniman 07-23-2008, 08:33 PM so that goes for the ppc tunner as well ? Cobaltss/TC 07-23-2008, 08:35 PM so that goes for the ppc tunner as well ? yes it does maxuniman 07-23-2008, 08:37 PM That kinda blows big fucking balls. GM is guna take all there slow time to make the stage kits for the TC I bet. Oh well. Ill just get it tuned once I have enough $ that if something breaks I can replace it plaxton 07-23-2008, 08:44 PM the cars of today are equiped with a form of blackbox. this box records everything and i mean everything. from speed to brake pressure to tuneing and air flow. the dealer can get into this black box and see whats been changed. also the cops can see the last 30 seconds to 1 minute of activity with your car incease you are in a accident. technology is a bitch lmao :) BostonBoy 07-23-2008, 11:17 PM the cars of today are equiped with a form of blackbox. this box records everything and i mean everything. from speed to brake pressure to tuneing and air flow. the dealer can get into this black box and see whats been changed. also the cops can see the last 30 seconds to 1 minute of activity with your car incease you are in a accident. technology is a bitch lmao :) He is not joking. eveything i believe the computer keeps track of reflashes. also, that's a shady, scumbag thing to do. if it's your fault your broke something as a result of modding, man up and pay. karma's a bitch. I believe this. But, A exhaust should not void the warranty. My buddys buddy srt-4 almost got void for short throw shifter when he needed a new tranny. I think he paid like $500. I would void that, but not me. When I get mine next year it will be stock & I'll change the oil every 5000 miles. |
