LSD installion into a non G-85????
well guys, I can buy a used LSD unit from a fellow CSS.net member, but nobody around here has the tools to do the install....
CED is where I get everything done and they don't even have the tools.
any suggestions????
any used LSD equipped trannys out there for sale???
tranny shops say it is too new and they haven't opened any up, most dealers just warranty it and put in a new tranny

It takes While
Thats weird that your dealership or a chevy dealership wouldnt do it. It did cost me a bit to put the LSD in but i had them install my spec 3+ clutch at the same time. The dealership should just buy the tools at no charge to you and just do it.
How much did just the instalation of the lsd cost?
well find out book time on this before you do anything.. cause if you can even find a dealer that's even willing to crack open the LSJ's tranny then by all mean's do it.. but the last time ive seen that done after the car was in three times for a bad 4th they replaced the tranny then when my friend was driving it home the clutch master went cause it was wasnt completely tight and it cost the dealer a tranny and a clutch. and my friend's LSJ was down for i believe 30+day's.

I got a redline with no lsd and this have been discussed a few times. It is said that it is a pain in the ass and expensive to put in. It also has been said to just buy a new tranny and install that and would be around the same price. Also the lsd tranny is alot cheaper from chevy than saturn.

"we have not torn down a trans in 15 years! there are NO TOOLS, NO SPECS, NO PARTS. we just replace the whole trans if there is a problem!!!"
I am amazed that this is the case.... geeze I live in Chicago (not a small town) and nobody can do this????
try the saturn in schaumburg. That where i usually go and they are really good about everything over there. The tech that works on my car used to have a redline so knows whats up with our cars. Its worth a shot
Just got off the phone w/ the SAAB dealer.... they told me the following;
"we have not torn down a trans in 15 years! there are NO TOOLS, NO SPECS, NO PARTS. we just replace the whole trans if there is a problem!!!"

dont let them fool you... I have a friend that works with a guy that has taken these trans apart. matter of fact he pulled the lsd out of my old broken tranny and my brother is going to put it in his
If I recall correctly, the tools for the job run $600.... I am 99% sure that is what Tom at CED said to me yesterday

rpm transmissions can do it for yu in Illinois real good people talk to TJ...here is some info
M35 TRANMISSION REPAIR PARTS
To do this you need to buy to do a differential exchange or synchro replacement:
spacer kit this is a collapsible spacer: 55352125 for the main shaft, and two differential case bearings: 12788353, and 5th gear nut 12755195 The reason you need the collapsible spacer is that is a torque to yield spacer that determines main shaft end float and if you reuse the old one the end float will be too much and the synchro's will clash etc. The reason you need differential bearings is that you cannot easily remove the old ones from the old diff without damage, to reinstall in the new differential. The nut should be changed as it is peened to prevent getting loose, and the gasket 90486235 generally gets damaged when you remove the end case
The spacer kit, the main shaft nut and gasket for the end case along with a tube of special anaerobic sealer is needed; The sealer you need to assemble the case back together and the parts run well over $125.00 ( the bearings alone are 60 bucks each)
Also when removing the transmission:
Take the hairpin clip out of the quick disconnect clutch fitting on the bell housing (behind the air inlet and between the ECU and the engine) remove the Q-D and turn it over. You may see (not always)in the female q-d orifice, a little O ring in the socket of the Q-D. Remove it carefully with a small pick and then put the o ring back on the male post for the Q-D which is attached to the bell housing. If the O ring stays in the male Q-D post on removal you have no issues.
Then place the q-d back press firmly, reinstall the hair pin clip and bleed the clutch.

Cost
they charged me 11 hrs for both the LSD and cluth install together. They said without the clutch it would have taken 9hrs tops. So 9hrs times the labor. If you check with the dealer, they can actually tell you what the avg time it takes to install every part on the cobalt. its pretty neat.
