If i do happen to have to go back to this year for payment reason. which one would be easier to mod or which one would be the cheapest to get faster?

2.4 hands down - tuning is the main reason. hp tuners supports the 2.4 and not 2.2

sadly, the 2.4 is "easier" as celica said because of tunning, but the cheepest is a base 2.2 with a garrett turbo kit. Im under 16k and faster then stage 2

lol very nice. ya i'm thinking most of my stuff will be bought through sources like ebay or craigslist or stuff liek that. new parts just aren't that worth it sometimes to me. but i guess i'll do some more research when i get closer to buying it.

liek right now i'm looking into some header, catback exhaust, air intake, and some visual mods such as wheels and tint and body kits.

ya but turbo for a 2.2 would run me around $3-4k and i'd get it up to around 200hp. i can get a turbo for around the same price for the 2.4 and i get 290hp.

I'm sure you could get much more than 200 hp from a turbo 2.2L.

No YOU can't, some wing-ding at a desk 3000 miles away can send you a canned tune for you to upload... that does not give you the ability to tune your own car, and that is key

can send you a custom tune...not completely canned. its only canned by the fact that its sent/uploaded

But they are not in your car on the dyno/street data logging, adjusting and tweaking...

I still say the 2.4 is a better motor then the 2.2 regardless of tuning capabilities

I have a 2.4 and have driven a 2.2. I feel that the 2.4 is way better, hands down. The performance is pretty nice for a car without forced induction. Just buy it and turbo it and keep us updated.

Also don't forget....... NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT!!!!!! Sure you can turbo a 2.2 and make gobs of power but guess what, you can ALSO turbo a 2.4 and it will make MORE power then the 2.2! The reason, ITS A BIGGER FEEKIN ENGINE!!!!!!! Geeez I didn't realize this concept was so difficult to grasp.

and keep in mind that you can't finance a turbo
so you gotta have cash for it, and three grand is a lot of cash to save

This pretty much sums it up...

http://www.turbokits.com/cobalt_turbo_kits.html

Unless the 2.2 is way cheaper to buy from the start I'd much rather get a 2.4, pay and extra $500 and end-up with 100 more ponies. Like Reign said, the VVT has a number of things going for it over the 2.2 that make it a superior engine.

You can get a new 2.2 for 14k out the door and an SS 2.4 for 20k out the door its a 6 k price difference. Granted the 2.4 is more tuneable and has the vvt, but the 2.2 you can make faster than the 2.4 before hitting the 20k mark that the 2.4 starts at.
