Imperial Blue 08 SS
Imperial Blue 08 SS
Hey everybody. New here and wanted to show off the new ride and say hey! It's an 08 SS Turbo in Imperial Blue Metallic. Just got it a few days ago and I can this much, it's a blast to drive. Haven't had this much fun in a car in a long time! Sorry about the quality of the pics, the weather around here has been really bad. I promise better pics when I start modding it up a bit. I look forward to learning and contributing alot on this forum. Thanks in advance for any comments or input.

Nice car and nice color. That was high on my list for consideration since I wanted something to not stick out as much. Less attention from the authorities is always a good thing (otherwise I'd have bought victory red car
).
The "UltraLux" inserts are a suede-like material that is actually a synthetic cloth. A quick search shows CHEMFAB Saint-Gobain Corporation owns the trademark for the ULTRALUX brand name but the material itself looks to come from the Italian company Alcantara S.p.A. My educated guess is that GM would have to pay an extra licensing fee to use the Alcantara name, which is many times associated with higher end vehicles like Audi (which pioneered the use of it), so they decided to market it under an in-house name.
After a few weeks owning my car I need to vacuum it and go over the interior, but looking at the seats I hope the inserts will still stay a dark black over time. With some dirt/dust and break-in they seem to have lightened up a tiny bit. Best bet for cleaning that material is to use a brush, vacuum them, and occasional wipe off with a damp terry towel (avoid leather and upholstery cleaners).
Besides the mesh material that's used on a majority of the new SS seats, the other trim looks to be a leatherette, which is a high quality synthetic (i.e. vinyl). That's actually a good thing since the newer stuff usually lasts longer, holds up better, and is easier to maintain than real leather. Overall I think the new seats are very supportive and hold me better than the lower-end Recaro's that were in the older cars.
