View Full Version : new mpg record
an0malous 08-02-2008, 10:21 PM set a new record today on my round trip to work and back.
total is about 160km (100 miles)
averaging between 55 and 60mph, no cruise control, peddling for all i was worth using every trick i know,
heres the result
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v34/dragongirl78/mpg-1.jpg
Its actually sitting higher than this right this minute in my driveway (53mpg), and i saw it as high as 55 on the way home, but this just happens to be what it was when i snapped the pic, and i was to lazy to grab another one (14 hour work day :P)
for those interested in the conversion numbers....
51.8 mpg (us) = 4.5L/100km = 62.7 mpg (imperial)
lmfao @ hybrids
bigrroberto 08-02-2008, 10:22 PM you and your crazy tunes
bryce712 08-02-2008, 10:23 PM nice :twothumbs now and try and get it for the whole tank
cruisn 08-02-2008, 10:23 PM god damn!! you need to redo my tune. lol
BeermanSSSC 08-02-2008, 10:24 PM you shouldn't cause you can drive a hybrid normally and get that, not peddling all the time. BUT, that is fuckin sweet man. I can't believe that you can get #'s that high with this car.
an0malous 08-02-2008, 10:24 PM hybrid camrys get 32mpg according to a guy at work who has one.

not many hybrids
my brothers vw golf gets almost 60 on the hiway
diesel>hybrid
esfkotaro 08-02-2008, 10:26 PM several car magazines proved that the prius hybrid actually struggles to exceed 48ish mpg.
and no hybrid I know of can get 50+mpg, and then turn around and do this:
"13.3 @ 106 --current PB 2008"
Red2.4SS 08-02-2008, 10:27 PM you must be running lean as hell! O_O
an0malous 08-02-2008, 10:28 PM you and your crazy tunes
for those who were asking about performance vs econemy....
this is also the exact same tune that I ran 13.3@106
you must be running lean as hell! O_O
14.7 stoich.
though i may experiment with this later :D

BriantheLion26 08-02-2008, 10:30 PM I have been hearing the same. People tune for the track and get better MPG at the same time. What more could you ask for?
Tune for meth, you got a race gas tune when you need it at WOT and still get kick ass MPG. :)

Nice!!!
Good job on the mph. My personal best was 45mph, 90mile round trip to work, but too slow for me.
esfkotaro 08-02-2008, 10:38 PM just to clarify, that ET and trap aren't mine, they're an0m's (OP).
my best mpg was 43 and I haven't ran the 1/4 yet, but I doubt I'll do better than high 15's.

Understood!

happened like that for me
anom tuned my car and I get AMAZING fuel economy in a mixed driving situation.
theneelster 08-02-2008, 10:54 PM I get 85mpg...in my dreams:lol:
I got 39.4mpg @ 77mph(avg) not using cruise control during a recent 220 mile trip.
BeermanSSSC 08-02-2008, 11:05 PM we have a camry hybrid too, we get between 45-48 daily driving. And no it can't run a 13.3 @106 lol i don't know that it goes over 100. ha ha. but like i said that is sweet bro, i wish I could get that on mine
Badju587 08-04-2008, 01:24 PM Nice man, most I've managed out of the shitty-ass S2 tune was 37.5 over a full tank, babying the living shit outta the damn thing... but there was a decent amount of stop-and-go in there too. I'll have to see if I can do a 100 mile jaunt at mostly the same speed. The S2 seems to settle in at around 41-42 MPG doing 55 MPH.
Omega_5 08-05-2008, 11:43 AM Nice job! :twothumbs
I found that I was averaging 5.6L/100km (42MPG) this weekend at 70MPH. And that was only tuned on the top end. I'm sure I can pull a lot more out of the middle of the map.
NOS2006 08-05-2008, 11:53 AM What?! That's absolutely insane.
I got 33 MPG out of one of Bryan's tunes going 70 to/from WV (I'm from MI). Blah. :(
h0l0caust 08-05-2008, 11:55 AM i think you did push the car halfway down there right? heheheh
BradSi 08-05-2008, 11:56 AM lmfao @ hybrids
That's what I've been saying since hybrids came out. :) Thank you for hard proof.
Preston 08-08-2008, 09:49 AM best i've ever gotten was...32 something..thats a mix of city and highway..
Dunkinuts 08-08-2008, 10:14 AM I have hit 40mpg but on avg. i am in the low 30s high 20s b/c i hate driving to save gas. but i like to know that if i need to its there.
TVS_SS 08-08-2008, 10:22 AM Did you verify this using the gas pump and mileage method?
I can tell you that changing your injector calibration requires you to be VERY accurate otherwise mpg readouts are not accurate. Tune can be spot on, but meter is not right. Because you are running at very very low pulse widths of your injector, a slight issue with the tables at low PW makes huge changes to that meter.
How did you calibrate your injector PW table? just a mulitplication of the stock table? Was a flow bench involved?
suburbanrobot 08-08-2008, 10:57 AM good job lightfootin':twothumbs.... I'd be happy to see 40.... I think 35-38 is my best

last month I did 4 trips to work and back and did it manually.
DIC read an average of 43, calculations showed 42

That sound like the same error as mine. I read 5.6L/100km (42MPG) .... manually I came out with 5.7L/100km (41MPG)
08cobalt1lt 09-01-2008, 01:46 AM I have a '08 XFE 5 spd with 5500 miles on it and has no aftermarket upgrades yet. The very best that I have gotten on the DIC is 36.2 @ 65 mph. That is 2 trips (140 mile round trips) to work and back that is all highway. The pencil came out to 35.4 mpg on the same tank. Take it up the 70 and it gets 33 to 35 tops. What are you guys doing to get that mileage, because I am not seeing it? Thanks - 08cobalt

its like an effin lifestyle to get the redic. high gas mileages.
look for a hypermilling forum, crazy stuff
esfkotaro 09-01-2008, 02:17 AM very fine footwork on the gas pedal.
cruise control sucks for good gas mileage, in my experience.
With my XFE I was able to hold 42.3 MPG over 375 miles during a portion of my drive from Detroit to Boulder CO
The rest of the drive was spent at 75+ mph...and I averaged about 35-38mpg, which ain't all that bad either!
