Stock block or built?

WickedSS2005
08-03-2008, 08:35 PM
IIRC, stock with a spare motor on the side incase of failure

06blackg85ss
08-03-2008, 08:47 PM
still stock motor and not fully dialed in yet. we were having an issue with the turbo mounting bolts backing out, but that's all fixed now. I'll be up there the 17th finishing tuning the car on a full 22 psi.
I'll also have my new clutch in and my new meth kit installed the day before (going to put a lot of miles on it that day lol) and I'll be hitting the dyno too and trying to dial my car back in since it's been months since I last tuned it. also shooting for 23-24 psi on meth and should hit @430-440whp if all goes well

build your own man its not to bad me and my buddy did mine

06blackg85ss
08-04-2008, 07:18 AM
as long as you know what to get and spend the money in the right places, building your own kit really isn't that hard. My first setup I did for the cheap and only spent @$1300 and made 365whp. My new setup cost money though lol.
As for the foglights, I had to get rid of mine too to fit the charge piping and the massive FMIC I have in the car. And turbo is the way to go on these cars. My first setup just about completely untuned put down 326whp 297wtq @18psi. Tuned at 21psi it made 365whp and now with the new turbo it should be up @430-440whp @23psi.

no that was on 60's and stock fuel pump.
not running a return line even still on the car, switched to a walbro high pressure and 79lb/hr injectors... no probs.

Paul, why aren't you using the extra 4 injectors for the hahn manifold? Wouldn't that

1. Make it possible to leave the flow rate modifier alone

2. Lower your maf calibration numbers

I"m pretty sure I have a list somewhere. but here it is off the top of my head:
Ebay turbo (cx racing or something) @$250
ebay intercooler @$60
Ebay piping kit usually comes with t-bolts and couplers (cut and make it fit lol) $125 (need 2 one 2.5" one 3")
Some 3" ss mandrel bends for the exhaust @$65
Vulcan turbo mani $325 or sp
79lb/hr injectors $315 shipped
Tial 38mm wastegate $229
greddy type rs bov $85 or so
Turbosmart MBC $120
ebay oil line kit @$80
fiitting for oil feed you can get from hahn or turbotech
and that's pretty much it.

no money at the moment to run a complete seperate fuel system and buy the computer, plus I have it running perfectly for my power levels at the moment on the 79's and the walbro pump
as for the maf I'm only hitting 10400 right now at redline and 22 psi. so I still have some room to play. Once the built motor is finally done (god knows when) I'll be hooking up that other rail and run a set of 60's in there for top end fueling.
But the car idle's and drives like stock with the 79lb/hr injectors, so why mess with it now.

what did you use for the intake manifold?

some 3" stainless piping, basically a long 3" bend and had some flanges cut to match the tb and the s/c base

Makes sense...I think I may be going with the hahn and the extra fuel injectors..but i'm going to jump right into using the extra injectors hoping that it will make tuning a tad bit easier....

I'll be back up there the 16t and the 17th (dyno on the 17th) and if all goes well with my clutch install saturday, I'm gonna put some miles on the bitch and hit the dyno the 17th too with meth and 24 psi of goodness

as for the extra injectors, it should be cool, not exactly sure on how the tuning works for it, but I'd assume just zero out the PE table and leave all power enrichment fuelin to the 2nd set of injectors and just use the pcm for part throttle and idle

I can't wait to actually put some boost to my car. 17-18 lbs is just keeping me at around 300.

What kind of power are you looking for with 24psi? and whats the EBay turbo supposed to be? 50 trim?

06blackg85ss
08-04-2008, 07:15 PM
ebay turbo I ran before was a .57 trim, but you can run a .50 or .60
with 24psi and meth injection I'm hoping to break the 440whp record that hahn made ( on a built motor). and 400wtq. Once the meth is finally in I can get a little more aggressive with my timing,
just a little example:
car made 369whp on 19.50 psi, 411whp at 22.35 psi so a litte boost goes a long way on this turbo, that and I'm still not running it full out (28psi)

visiting my brother.. possibly paying a visit to hahn and we're going out to colorado for a week lol so i'll be visiting both the guys helping me out with my setup if everything goes as planned

yea i was talking to chris and sent him the link to .sickspeed performance.com and he said he thinks thats the place.. those rates are pretty good considering it's 4 runs with a/f i figure when we have my car getting worked on we can hit there and do a before and afterrun :twothumbs

yea i gotta start looking for apartments again lol i found one place that was good but who knows if it's still on the market

With a couple of psi I'm not going to make another 70 horses. You are doing something right that I'm not getting thats for sure. I'm hoping for 325-340 at 22 psi.

I hope you get the power your looking for. If you do I'll have to take my car to NY so you can work some majic.

06blackg85ss
08-04-2008, 08:48 PM
it's an easy formula big turbo- big air flow. For every psi I gain @35whp or so. since it's moving @1000 cfm or something rediculous around that boost level.
Throw on a bigger turbo, ball bearing, and 22 psi (and still fast spool) you'll be hitting some nive numbers.
With chris's car we're aiming for 22 psi and 385whp or so

Maxim_X
08-04-2008, 10:03 PM
I did go to a bigger turbo LoL. Now I'm on brand name turbo a t3t4 50trim.

I should have listened and tried harder to fit the 60-1 in their.

06blackg85ss
08-05-2008, 06:59 AM
60-1 is a bit laggy. the gt3071 & gt3076 are where it's at. 60-1 does make rediculous mid and top end power though. Gt3071 spools basically like the stock s/c

all4glh
08-05-2008, 08:47 PM
So the GT3071R (.50 compressor and .63 turbine) can spool quick and hold it through the powerband, should be good for a mild turbo build of say 375hp? I'm compiling a list. Damn Paul, maybe I should go to DPA again so we can talk, but that 6hr drive sucks............

06blackg85ss
08-05-2008, 09:20 PM
well soon "Ill be a bit closer man. I'm moving about an hour upstate. gt3071 should be fine for that level, jannetty is making 400/406 on one

all4glh
08-05-2008, 10:30 PM
I doubt you'll ever that close to me, lol. Unless you want to live 29 miles from Canada. I'm guessing how much it will cost to piece together a turbo kit, so far I'm at $3900. I'm wondering now if it's worth piecing it together or just buying the Hahn kit. My biggest thing is trying to keep the daily driver reliability on a stock block (stock internals, head, etc). That's why I figure a GT3071R with about 16-18psi with a conservative tune.

There really isn't much in the area, and the only show (for our cars) within a decent drive is SCTB in Oswego. Plus the cops up here kind of hate the military so we get screwed often on BS tickets.

well my car was done by me and Kenny at C/A originally, then worked with Hahn for the newer parts.
If you have the skill and a competant welding/fab shop you can make it yourself using some basic parts. Or just buy one of the Hahn kits and not have to worry about custom fitting anything.

lol and I told you you'd get used to it.

good turbo mani is www.vulcanturbo.com They have a nice log style or equal length setup.
Intake mani, well, Hahn is the only way to go man. Great piece.
or for starters you can get the ATP turbo s/c delete kit and use the stock base intake manifold.
