As yall know i live in the hotter than hell West Texas. Well I got to noticing today, after filling up last night and crusin alittle bit I used an 1/8th tank of gas the ambent air temp was 87*. trip meter had 47.9 miles to this 1/8th tank which is ok for me I guess. Today I drove useing another 1/8 tank with the temp at 103* at the end of this cruse the trip meter read 69.7 miles. dose the air temp really have that big of an effect. we are talking 20-25* temp diffrence and cutting the fuel milage in half. witht he same driving style.

can someone strighten me out. i know hot air make you run rich but DAYAM!

heatsoak is a bitch, but i'd bet it was depending on your driving style
plus, the guage isn't 100% accurate
so there are a variety of factors coming into play here

I usually get 28-30 mpg, but now I'm getting 35 mpg, and I haven't done anything differently :X

only thing i can thing of is i have it tuned for night driveing when its cool and im 10.8 at wot at night just imagine how rich i am in the day. but i dunno it wot tuning effect normal driving. and my style was the same both time night and day i didnt rev or anything.

well technically, the hot air outside would mean you radiator is dissipating less heat, meaning hotter cylinder temps as well, meaning more horses using the exact same timing/fuel (also closer to knock tho), but its MUCH more likely you saw this in gauge innacuracy. Ive ran a tank till the gauge read zero, then started it up 20-30 mins latr and it read it had half of a 1/8th left....or 1/16 if you prefer. These gauges are not the most accurate things in the world.

well. lets say 1/8 a tank is 2 gallons.


going from 47 miles on 2 gallons to 69 miles on 2 gallons would be an increase in fuel efficiency, not a decrease

Outside air temperature does have an effect on mileage, at least for me I've noticed my mileage drop during the winter because of the colder air outside, as opposed to the hot air during the summer. I lose almost 100km to a tank because of it, but of course winter driving itself can also suck up gas mileage but I still think some of it is due to the temperature.

Did you use the same 1/8th mark on the gauge as lastnight or one that was closer to full or empty? My gauges move faster in the last 1/4 of a tank than it does coming off of the full mark.
