Its the little black box that records your driving and mod changes and sends it to GM

Not sure actually, trace the wires to wherever they go.

That does not look like OEM. It is not the headlights. That's an optical eye a little closer to the driver side.

Yes there is! I've heard about it many times especially in a defensive driving course! Why would they lie??? And thanks.

Black boxes (search), or "EDRs" have been fitted into every General Motors car in its 2004 line and is in a number of Ford models — about 15 percent of all vehicles on the road today, according to road safety experts.

EDRs are certainly not new. Information gathered on black boxes — typically everything from speed, brake pressure, seat belt use and air bag deployment — has already been used in determining guilt in criminal and civil cases across the country.

Man look at onstar you don't think they listen in through your mics?? the entire US is under surveillance around stores and in cities and the govt listens in to your phone calls... With this black box if you get into an accident that's the first thing the court looks at. If you were going 100mph in this crash they will incriminate you based on the evidence...

ORLY!!!!
Yes, there are data recorders, however;
These systems do not record audio (voices) or video, direction of travel, location, date, time, who is in the car, phone operation, or any history regarding where you've been or how fast you have driven (except for the few seconds prior to a crash, as noted below)
You can identify the EDR;
The SDMs measure about 4x4 inches across, and are Click here for the whole 90Kb picture about 1.5 inches high, with a big yellow plug on one end and an arrow to indicate FORWARD as installed.
The recorder will only record certain vital information.... vehicle speed, engine speed, throttle position, brake circuit, as well as the information from the self contained accelerometers. And again, it only records a few seconds prior to impact, as that is all the memory allows it to hold.
