View Full Version : can someone answer this
audiophile64 08-19-2008, 09:40 PM I just got 2008 black turbocharged ss with manual and I dont see the upshift light coming on does anyone else have manual 2008 and do you see the upshift light? and also what are the shift points for this car?(not in the manual anywhere how stupid)
MapOfTaziFoSho 08-19-2008, 09:44 PM I didn't think there was a shift light in the 08...at any rate I would upshift at 3k rpm or less for efficiency.

theres no light. the 09s have them i think
steddy2112 08-19-2008, 09:51 PM No the light doesn't come on.
ecotecon18s 08-19-2008, 09:54 PM get you an interceptor and set the shift light for the RPMs you want to shift at.
other than that, just shift between 3-4K to keep the clutch happy and your MPG up...
BTW, if the TCs are like the SCs, the light coming on prolly means youre overrevving the motor...
peachpuff 08-19-2008, 10:23 PM If you're going to spend $200 for the interceptor that displays only 2 parameters at a time, you might as well get the $300 msd dashhawk, it does everything the interceptor does and a lot more.
MapOfTaziFoSho 08-19-2008, 10:27 PM $400 will get you two interceptors. ;)
How much is the dash hawk?

IDK if the dashhawks are compatible with the tc's and sc's....the 09's are lucky...they can get the RPD...
dsp86 08-19-2008, 10:37 PM they dont have them. my 07ss na doesnt, i thought the same thing hen i first got it the i found that they only have it work in the 2.2 cobalts. dont need it anyway the engine will let u know when u need th shift.
NS06G5 08-19-2008, 10:47 PM I have a 2.2 manual and it doesn't have a shift light
audiophile64 08-19-2008, 11:21 PM Thanks for the replies everyone good to know shift at 3000-4000
Gyrocon 08-20-2008, 04:01 AM as far as I knew, the 08 models originally destined for canada had the shift light disabled but the models intended for the us market the light worked! ?!?! just what I was told
MattCA 08-20-2008, 04:08 AM Is it really 3-4k for good mpg? Ive been wondering this for awhile. I usually try to keep it below 3k but I understand how it could end up taking more gas to keep it from bogging. Anyone have an official answer?

This wouldn't be the thread to talk about it in.
Try the hypermiling forum
krispy 08-20-2008, 09:45 AM I usually shift between 2-3k rpm, using the DIC I see the highest numbers that way.
At 40 mph in 5th gear you are revving almost nothing, but when I set the cruise (this was just for shit and giggles mind you) it was fluctuating between 45-50mpg. If I would have kept going at that speed I would have ended up with some rediculously high mileage number.
Keep that in mind if you are trying to limp to a gas station one day.
jerrodmann 08-20-2008, 12:24 PM i usually don't go over 2K when i shift, excellent gas mileage.

$300, it can show a lot more gauges on screen too upto 7. You can save upto 5 datalogs and review them on the pc. The interceptor gauges just cant do that.

The dashhawk works with the solstice gxp, so it should work with the cobalts. I'd get in contact with msd and see if they can add the cobalt's vin to the firmware.
