View Full Version : Power steering shit out?

I was wiring in the last of my LED's today. Got everything working perfectly. Turned the car on, put 'er in reverse and realized the steering had seized up. So I turn it off and try it again.... after an hour of checking fuses and just basically cussing the shit out of my car and myself, i've given up. Does anyone know what I might of done? I only blew one 15amp fuse and the 20 amp fuse in the passenger side box, I replaced both of those. I disconnected the battery and re-connected it, still nothing. Checked the 60amp EPS fuse under the hood and it look just fine to me...

I will most likely be calling my dealer tomorrow, but I can't drive this thing like this...plus on top of that, I'm a firefighter, so when that pager goes off, I have no choice but to muscle that steering wheel.

Has this happened to anyone before?

I know you said that the eps fuse looked fine, but did you actually pull it out and look at it? Secondly, did you check the inside eps fuse? its number 19

Also what did you use as a power source?

i pulled the eps fuse out from unda da hood. looked like the others.... I did not check the other one. BRB

#19 looks good too. I'm using #'s 6 (AMP, 20A) and 26 (DR Lock, 15A)

I have two sets of LED's, I have them to two different power sources, and two different switches.

idk, the best thing you could do is take it to the stealership. hopefull your under warranty. Did you look over the wires under the column where the steering motor is to make sure nothing came loose? Its pretty hard to see the motor taking a shit without blowing a fuse...

what fuses did you blow on the passenger fuse box?

exactly my thoughts. I checked under the steering column, there really isnt any reason why anything would come loose. Although I did breach the firewall (by removing the rubber stopper) so I could run my grille flasher wires to my switch. I'm gonna hit em up tomorrow. looks like I'll have to take the day off.

6 and 26 are the fuses I blew.

im going to call them first thing tomorrow. I'll probably make the death defying drive (30 minutes, half city half country driving) with the manual steering. I'll let them fuck with it. I hate it when I cant fix things

Just swapped out the EPS fuses with my sisters LT fuses, no change. Not a fuse problem.... I can't wait to see how much they are going to charge me to fix this one.

Unhook the hot and ground from your LEDS and see if that does anything. If it does, then you have a very bad ground on the Pwr Steering Motor. You can ground to the same spot, but wire your hots to something like the wipers or something like that. If it doesn't help, then something overloaded it internally and you shorted it out inside, meaning that one of the copper coils in the motor popped or the brushes burned out.
