A few thoughts on RPD

it does look like crap. Eh... its GM.. 24k$ econo-rocket....once again, I utter the words. "What did ya expect" *shrug*

We can keep bitching about how ugly the RPD is, with its extra inch and a half of uneeded black plastic around it...... or... we have some options;

Option 1- Don't order the RPD unit with your 2009 Cobalt or try to install it in your previous years SS

Option 2- Same as option 1 except purchase and install an aftermarket measurement display unit

Option 3- Order the RPD unit and have fun messing with all of its features, knowing that NO ONE is ever going to look at our cobalt SSs and be like "DAYYYUM, That ride is SECKS SEEEEE!) Lets face it, this "ugly" RPD unit is not the big brown wart on the face of what is the "stunningly beautiful" cobalt platform.

they didn't listen to my suggestion at the chi-town meet about this deal. it needed to be smaller and out of direct view of a cone.

think about it.

well, no offense, I doubt they would. Its General Motors. I honestly don't see how they could make it "fit" any better without remodeling the unit itself. Its to big to fit good. I am not bitching though... I cannot wait to play around with the unit. Should have my ride sometime next week. *crosses fingers*

ewwww.. I can see that happening now that you mention it and thinking of the pics I seen of it so far.

Well.. I live in the boonies right outside East Lansing.... lots of twisties and less traveled roads. Once I get about 500 miles on my car.(give me 2 work days) .. I will let you know. There is a road I have in mind with a lot of left turn cut backs and twists. Test it out.

Note- I am 6 foot 2.... lil above average for most balt drivers I suspect. I might have a view over the top of the RPD.. hoping this is the case and it won't be a problem for myself.

Dude, RPD is cool, it is what it is, and its cheap. I've gotten quite a few compliments already on it.

I was just thinking of getting the MSD Dashhawk. That would serve my purpose, ie showing KR and digital boost and as well as O2's.

Solutions on what? You don't even have the car yet. I've had this thing out on some very enjoyable roads and I had no issue seeing around it.

This is the first I have heard of ANYONE getting any notification or word on whether or not the RPD can or cannot be installed in the 08s.. let alone the LSJs (S/Cs).

Knowing how a lot of dealerships are..... I wouldn't put 100% faith/trust in what your dealership said. Might be true, might not be.

My dealer didn't even know the new options available yet for the 2009 SSs when I ordered.

I am confused as well. Anyone without an 09 SS should just get an aftermarket unit. I don't know why you would want this RPD. I ordered it because GM installs it. Its from GM... it was only 295$. And it would be there when I get my car delivered. If it wasn't for that.. I think the aftermarket ones look a lot cooler, minus the G Force Gauges of course.
