nitrous, turbo, or supercharger

im looking either nitrous or supercharger for the price

or u can do a cold air intake, header/downpipe and a cat back exhaust

2.4L intake manifold

depends on how far u wanna go

Injen intake, magnaflow exhaust, vibrant header/downpipe/high flow cat.... That would be a good start. It would not change daily driving a bit :)

Check out www.TurboTechRacing.com for more ideas.

Hey guys, I am new on here, I just bought a 2009 cobalt lt and already regreting it and not getting the SS, I am interested in supercharging the car, any idea on if there is a GM supercharger kit available for the car, and if so would it void my waranty as I paid to have the extended so I don't want to mess that up. Thanks guys

There's nothing that's gonna keep your warranty. Either wait until your warranty is up and go supercharger/turbo, or go swap in out now. If you have the money, the new ss is worth every penny.

i've always stood against this statement however in this case i believe mrsilent to be dead on. if you can take it back now do so.

So a turbo would be a good idea then? Thanks for the heads up! That helps alot. now to find a cheap enough yet good turbo......

If you can find a dealership that will do it, go ahead. But, most do not do any kind of tuning whatsoever. I think the ecotec supercharger will bolt on perfectly, but without tuning it's not going to work. I have no clue what kind of tuning the 08's have, if any.

It's likely that you will not be able to go supercharger/turbo for a long time, and even then it's a void of your warranty, and dangerous if you've never done it before.

I suggest saving your money and enjoying the new car with an extended warranty. Spend that money that's putting a hole in your pocket towards aesthetic mods like rims/tires/tint ect. When tuning comes around and your warranty runs out, then that's your time.

But, don't jump into an advances engine mod this early in your car. Enjoy the warranty.

My personal opinion is that if you want the most HP per $$$. Go with GOOD ECM/TCM tuning. It'll add power to whatever mods you do or dont already have over stock tuning.

The 2009 LT has the new 2.2L VVT engine(LAP) there arent any supercharger or turbocharger kits designed for your car by GM(like there was with the Cavaliers)

Your best bet is gonna be the early (06-07) 2.4L manifold, CAI, header, downpipe, catback and tuning. Or like so many people do you can go turbo. Obviously a turbo and your 5/100 warranty arent going to be friends.

It's a pretty big project IMO to swap f/i. You should fully read each of these links and make sure you understand and absorb everything :)

AFAIK, there is one set of instructions for one specific turbo kit - TubroByGarrett's cobalt kits. They ship with installation instructions for thier own specific kit. There are no instructions that will say insert part A into parts B and tighten for anything other than the Garrett kit. This is like asking how do I get to the Rock'n Roll Hall of fame (OH) from New york. There are many ways I can get to the the rock'n roll hall of fame...like a million. It depends on the choices I want to make how I get thier. The same goes for supercharging your ride (although I think this is more so down to a science now-a-days). I think of F/I as more of a strategy vs this is how it's done laid out for you in 'data sheet style'. Reading those thread above and those books (or really any good forced induction book) will give you ideas on how to do this.. and of course when you hit a wall, we're all here :)

I understand why people always scream search! when this question pops up. Generally, if you don't already have a good idea, you have a lot of reading to do. Those are turbo geared books (they do have some supercharger info though) so you may want to hit up motorbooks workshop and your local bookstore :)

Well first off you need a lot more than just the supercharger. Also with a supercharged 2.2 you will not make 265hp with only a supercharger kit. You would need other bolt ons with the SC kit to get close. Also just fyi the internals in the 2.2 are only good for about 250hp.

Dont forget also installing the kit on your car is one thing but there is many parts on the motor that need to be torque'd to a certain # and such...lots of reading and research far beyond this post will need to be done.

yeah but doesnt mean its safe. Yeah they may be able to go at 270 or 280 or 500 for all I care but its not safe and it will break alot quicker than if its kept at 250 or lower.

hell a 200 whp is not safe in that line of thinking.. because it'll break/ wear things down alot quicker then the stock 120

HyperMuffin
11-30-2009, 05:53 PM
Yeah so whats the point of going over 250 in a 2.2? You will break down faster and would be a waste of money when it breaks.

.... seriously? because when done correctly it can be reliable over 250 whp.... whats the point in modding any car if you think that way

HyperMuffin

Well unless you work on the internals its just not worth risking imo. I understand it can be safe when done right but risking my cars engine exploding just doesnt sound fun. Also if you plan on going above 250 in a 2.2 you probally would be better off just getting an SS/SC or TC and modding that.

there are more aftermarket parts for the 2.2 then any other line... and it has the most research into it ...
