View Full Version : Went to the 1/8 mile track
FutureEcotecOwner 08-29-2008, 04:43 PM Figured I'd take the Cobalt down there instead of my Mustang. Ran one time and ran a 9.5 @ 76mph. Not bad for the 1st time I suppose. I left traction control on and didnt mess with the tire pressure. If it doesnt rain I plan on taking both the SS/TC and Mustang to the track tonight.
hatrickstu 08-29-2008, 04:44 PM clarksville what, arkansas?
FutureEcotecOwner 08-29-2008, 04:47 PM Tennessee man. About 40 miles NW of Nashville.
light'bolt 08-29-2008, 04:50 PM better than my first pass, 9.69@78.4mph. I had stage 2 only.

I'm driving a stock SS/TC.

Not me. I lived in Conway and Cabot for a year while my Dad was in the process of getting out of the Army. I hated it there.
hatrickstu 08-29-2008, 05:00 PM thats exactly where i live haha

Where at? Conway or Cabot?
hatrickstu 08-29-2008, 05:05 PM both. school in conway, family in cabot

yes you are :twothumbs
I was just giving a comparison of your stock TC to my GM stage 2.
hatrickstu 08-29-2008, 05:07 PM mmmmm my stage 2 has some 1/8 track times too ;)

Yeah but I bet you had alot of traction problems. Your stage 2 should beat my stock SS/TC.
light'bolt 08-29-2008, 05:08 PM Which are a lot better than mine......

Ahh!! We were only in Conway for a few weeks while my Dad was doing Army business there, then we went to Cabot. We lived in a big yellow house right behind Freds by the railroad tracks.
hatrickstu 08-29-2008, 05:11 PM i know where you lived then haha.
light'bolt 08-29-2008, 05:12 PM lol yep lots of traction issues, no DR, mounts or dampners on my car. I just like to go out the the track once a month to blow off some carbon deposits.....

yea i like to go blow stuff off at the track too, mine is usually metal and grease though

LOL. That house sucked, but we only needed a place to stay til we found a new settlement here in Clarksville, LOL. And it was cheap to live there.

Yeah I'll probably lower the tire pressure, not sure what I should lower it too, but I'll just fool with it. Then I'll turn traction control off and see what happens. I'll be happy if I can get down to 9.2, but then again then I would want an 8.9, LOL.
hatrickstu 08-29-2008, 05:17 PM 8.9 would be scooting in a stock TC.

I doubt its possible, but then again I'm not even sure what that converts to in the 1/4 mile.

No wonder your a second faster, of course my best is now a 9.06@80.4. Don't think I'll get that other half second without some sort of traction mod...

I know theres a formula around some where, I'll guess 13.6's?,

Yeah I know there is one too, but I'm not sure what it is, LOL. I ran an 8.9 @ 81mph with my 05 Mustang GT like the 3rd trip down the track in it. I'm looking for an 8.5 this time around with lowering the tire pressure and powershifting.
hatrickstu 08-29-2008, 06:26 PM 8.5 is what mine does :)
QuikSilverSS 08-29-2008, 06:42 PM 8.5 is what mine does :)
haha ya also a stage 2 record @13.3..I would be happy to run that in my full bolt on 2.8, 60lb, meth, intake, full exhaust balt
FutureEcotecOwner 08-29-2008, 08:19 PM I take it things are alittle different in the Cobalt than in the newer Mustangs? What I'm getting at is that Stu ran an 8.5 in the 1/8 and 13.3 in the 1/4 mile. A few guys I know have ran an 8.4-8.5 in their 3v Mustang, but ran in the 12's in the 1/4 mile. So I guess that means the Mustang picks up alittle more time in the back half than the Cobalt?

i didnt run an 8.5 on the 13.3 :)
just looked at the slip. (keep in mind this is in a 20mph headwind and traps were 2-3 mph slower AT THE 1/8)
8.63 @ 82.1 1/8
11.16 1000 foot
13.31@ 104.84
best 1000 et is 10.83, so you can do the math there;)

Thanks for the info man. I was trapping 81.7-81.9 last night and running 8.92-8.99 in my Mustang. Its kinda pissing me off because I cant get the freaking launch down. I forget to lower the pressure again and I didnt warm up the tires at all. I ran 9.6-9.8 in the Cobalt, still havent gotten the launch down in it either, and it sucks switching from the Cobalt to the Mustang because the clutches are so different.
hatrickstu 08-30-2008, 11:44 AM oh yea, you need to take one car at a time out there.

Exactly what I told my Wife and Brother.
