08 cobalt sport manual trany issues
ive searched and dont know if any one has had this problem with the 2.4 cars ive seen where people have them with the ss/sc and what not. Some times with my car it grinds going into 4th gear whether its from 3-4 or 5-4 the whole thing feels like its kinda stiff but 4th is the main problem. it only has 3400 miles on it so i hope the dealers dont give me **** over it. has anybody seen this before in a 2.4 manual got any ideas.
my transmission does it too. I took it to the dealer and they said there was nothing they could do yet. The dealer said that they were devoloping better synchros for the transmission, but they havent came out yet. They were developing them back in may because gm knows there is an issue with the 08's, so they said they would give me a call back when the part was available to fix it. BTW, this was just last week. mine started doing this with 45 miles on it, back in february.

you're being fed a line of bull
Its not bull, its a known issue on 2008 M86 transmissions, it has to do with improperly manufactured and prematurely wearing 3rd and 4th gear blocking rings. They are working on new ones made from a different material, but the dealership should replace them for you now, not tell you they are waiting for new parts. Just be aware that replacing them with current stock blocker rings is an interim fix, youll most likely need to get them upgraded to the new design when they are available.
Again, the dealer should replace the failing blocker rings NOW

should i mention this to them even though i dont hear the noise (4k miles) i have to go there friggen tuesday because my ebrake snapped..hope they like my header and cat delete (no cel tho)
same here i just got mine in july i was kinda thinking it would brake in or somthing. but if i tap it out and try to hit 4th hard i it does ok sometimes.

the f23 isnt 25 years old guys, it was first used in the north american market in 2000, it was the only manual tranny in the cavalier/sunfire/grand am/alero. aside from the aparent diff bearing failures in the early 2000s, they have been relitivly trouble free till 08.
Condition
Some customers may comment on a grinding noise in third or fourth gear when the clutch is fully disengaged.
Cause
Based on feedback provided by dealer technicians, engineering was able to determine the manual transmission grinding in 3rd or 4th gear. It is possible to correct the condition by replacing the 3rd and 4th gear blocker rings.
Correction
New parts are now available. Replace the 3rd and 4th gear blocker rings.

It is NEVER "typical" for a transmission to grind any gear and the longer someone waits to take it in and get it fixed a) the more damage is done and b) the more likely the dealer will say it was abuse or negligence (by not repairing sooner) and not cover it.
Something's not right, take it in. That's why new cars come with warranties.

You're insane, he needs to take it to the dealer and have the problem fixed... Grinding is NOT a "normal" operation sound and a big sign something is wrong.
