I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about anyone doing the rear mounted turbo thing to a cobalt? I have seen it on vettes and stuff , any opinions?> anyone know if this is even possible on our cars? I had just recently (15 min ago) started pondering the idea and wanted to know what you guys thought ... all the tuning and stuff I got covered since I work at a dealership and know at least 3 people here who can help me tune. I was told by a co-worker that there are kits for this type of application but I couldnt find one speciificly for our car........sorry If I sound like a newb to FI. its because I AM!!!!:cssNET:

there's no need for a remote mounted turbo because you can fit one in the engine bay. the remote mounted turbos are usually for cars that don't have the space to put them near the engine.

There are cooling advantages to having a rear mounted turbo however...

not really...... theres about x1000000 advantages to having it mounted in the back , heat/lag for one. plus the sound is much better than any performance exhaust...... someone give me real feedback please lol.:cool:

there is already a thread on it, search STS ull see another 2.2 was in the works, i think hes down right now though, his thread is pretty beefy

It has been done on a 2.2 and is a worthwhile cause.

Remote mounting on a 4 cylinder seems completely worthless for a great many reasons. I would list them, but I'm lazy.

I can think of two advantages right off the top of my head.

1. Cooler engine compartment temps since the turbo is mounted in the rear
2. Cooler IAT's since the air has the length of the car to cool down after passing through the turbo

wouldnt there be a big percent of boost lost if it has to travel all the wal up the car from the rear?

Remote mount turbos work really well on 4 cylinders. I know someone who had one on his 2.2 Ecotec Cavy, made 262WHP with like 10-12 PSI. With a normal power curve. Remote mounts dont work the best when trying to make big numbers, but for a daily driver with some kick, they work perfectly.

By the time the exhaust reaches the turbo it will have lost much of its energy. You are increasing lag by putting it back there.

If you want it for the sound, go for it.

More weight, more charge pipes for boost leaks, little more lag unless you use a puny T25 or something. I was looking into the idea when I had my 01 GT because it was a lot easier than putting on manifolds on the 4.6 but end the end it wasn't really worth being cheap about it.
