The new TWM SS Supercharged Short Shifter Review

I have been waiting for TWM to come out with the Cobalt SS Supercharged shifter for years and boy am I glad I waited!

Below are my installed pictures. TWM provides very detailed step by step instructions (with pics) that make the installation straight forward. The most time consuming part of the installation process is probably getting trough all the instructions. Thanks TWM for providing such detailed instructions!
I am very satisfied with the sifter. It makes driving so much more fun! Shifting into each gear works perfectly and the reverse lock works just like the stock revere lock.
I also got the optional weighted knob in the satin finish which has the shifting pattern engraved in it. It matches the gray interior accents very nicely :thumb:
Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the quality of the sifter! Thanks TWM for making such an awesome shifter! :thumb:

Yea it sure does!
I have to clean my car out and get some more pics tomorrow. I didn’t realize my camera didn’t capture the engraving. It’s neat and it aligns perfectly

Perhaps TWM can address this. I am not sure about the weight difference. It does feel nice and heavy.

More then likely it is heavier. But over all it looks real good. I like the looks of it. Its plain and simple.

The stock Cobalt SS/SC shift knob weighs 136 grams.

The aluminum shift knob that comes standard with the TWM short shifter weighs 150 grams.

The optional TWM Weighted shift knob (http://www.twmshiftknobs.com/shiftknobs/m1abrams-reverselock-shiftknobs.html) that JonyyB has weighs 408 grams!

This optional weighted shift knob can be substituted in place of the standard aluminum knob at the bottom of the short shifter page here: TWM Cobalt SS/SC short shifter (http://www.twmperformance.com/shortshifters/chevroletshortshifters/cobalt-ss-sc-short-shifter.htm).

Thanks!

Id get it but compared to hurts and B&M at 150-160 this is 175 and 189 with bushings and the better knob is 75 so until a sale goes on I wont order this. So for 264 there are better mods out there to buy. Maybe a price decrease in the near future?

may have to upgrade...

It is noticeably shorter than other brands. We made it as short as possible while retaining the reverse lock.

In addition, we found that 5th gear on other brands was vague (when you push all the way to the right and up it wouldn't go right in to 5th) so we designed ours to correct this. The TWM reverse lock also slides on delrin bushings for a very smooth feel. Also, the other short shifter's reverse lock "guide" is a steel spring pin that grinds on the reverse lock when you lift it, the TWM features a cylindrically ground shoulder bolt with o-rings for quiet and smooth operation.

Overall we feel that we designed a superior short shifter, without cutting corners.

Thank you for the positive feedback :)

Just installed mine, and let me say this is badass and shifts like butter. Installation was easy as I was a first timer and the pics and detail were perfect. took a little longer for me cuz my dumbass re-installed the shift boot above the reverse lock like a moron, so i had to redo (thanks for the extra zip tie by the way).
Other than that the only thing i noticed was the allen bolt for the reverse lock calls for a 5/32 to tighten and mine was 1/8. Not sure if this was a typo or my bolt was smaller but it was easy to recognize.

All in all a fine product and I highly recommend this to anyone considering, this is well worth it!!! TWM FTW!!

How much extra is it to upgrade to the weighted knob?

blazinb

weighted knob is like 70 extra.

Anybody felt the difference between the two? Is it really worth the extra 70?

well TWM would prob be able to best tell you, but youre lookin at a bit more than a half pound extra weight with the upgrade. 258grams to be exact

Thanks for the review, I'm glad the installation went fine and that you like the final result! I checked all the allen bolts on the remaining units we have at the shop and they are all 5/32. As long as the bolt has the same lenght and threads it's all good!

The advantage of the weighted stainless shift knob is that it will carry more momentum once in motion, therefore making the shifting even smoother. You also have the choice of different finishes with the weighted shift knob!

Thanks, we did make everything to come out with the best short shifter available on the market for the SS/SC, we would not feel comfortable releasing a product that is not the best you can get!

The aluminum base bushings replace the stock rubber bushings that are used to mount the shift assembly to the floor of the car. These rubber bushings flex a lot when shifting and they are part of the vague, unprecise feeling of the stock shifter. The solid aluminum base bushings will eliminate this unwanted play and they also improve the precision of the shifts.

I can attest to a more solid feel, while i didnt upgrade the knob, i did get the bushings and everything feels more "sturdy"

So we could make our own bushings fabricated off of the rubber ones and then I could upgrade to the better knob.
