Gas Mileage..?

Hey guys.. Just a question on gas mileage..

A few years back, when my car was fully stock, I got 35 mpg on my way back from Harrisburg. Ever since then, I've never been able to get anywhere close. Even on long highway runs, I usually get like 30. I figured I'd get a mpg bump from the catback, intake, and ram air hood letting more air in.. But maybe not? lol. I'm currently getting like 24 or so city and like 27 highway. Those numbers aren't really bad though, but I'm just curious.. I'm going on vacation in a few weeks, and I'd really like to see that 35 again.. I was surprised today though, coming home from the tour.. We were going like 80 almost the whole way, and I was averaging 28.. Not bad for cruisin'.. In an auto with 4 gears.. lol.

So what do you guys get? I'm a 2.4 auto by the way..

80 mph is your first problem. I average 33 with an 05 sssc, 11K, rollin at 61 mph. How many miles are on your car? As it gets older or has more miles its not going to get the same MPG you saw when it was newer. Maybe clean out your injectors

Obviously going 80 won't help. lol. I keept it around the speed limit 90% of the time.. I never drive fast.. Ask anyone.. lol. I've got almost 50k.. I always change my oil (which is synthetic now), as well as clean my filters, run cleaners, I changed my plugs, sprayed out my throttle body, etc. Anything else..? It'll be going in in a week or so for my inspection, so I'll have them do my 50k mile go-over too.. That should help..

I just drove back from MI to PA and averaged 36 in my 2.4. I've always got around that on the highway and like 25-27 city. I'm a manual so that helps a bit but next weekend I'll be heading to Kentucky from PA so I'll see how I do on that trip.

I kinda of aassumed my intake and catback would boost my mileage.. But it really hasn't.. We'll see how it goes after the inspection..

i find i get more accurate readings when i reset it every two or three tanks
resetting after one tank gave me a reading of 1 mpg lower than comparing fuel used to miles driven

I avg 30mph on the highway in my ss/sc with all my bolt ons and 80mph. Try a tune up with fuel filter run a good injector cleaner or have them serviced, and see if that helps.

I run 93 every time and reset the gauge every fill, no matter how much I put in.

There is a difference though.. MPG will vary based on location as well. The south is very flat compared to where I live in the north with a ton of hills and such. So you're always on the gas. And especially with an auto, you're always in too low of a gear. I try to control the tranny as much as possible so it's not hunting for the gear and such.. But I'll be very curious after the 50k what happens. As well as getting a reading after a full highway tank.. That should be interesting..

^^ And yes, I run a good cleaner once a month. But I don't believe my fuel filter was ever changed. I think that's a normal thing to do at a 50k mile check-up. I always run good quality 93, however after 50k miles, the **** just builds up.. We'll see how it goes.. I'll update after the service on Friday..

I have a 2.4 auto and can get around 32-34 on Interstate hauls. Highway back and forth to work on state highways I get 29-30. In town is more like 26. You did ask about a 2.4 right? All I see responding are SS/SC's.

It's weird, because for how uniformed all new cars, are, I think there's still "factory freaks". You know.. The car that's faster than the rest, or gets better MPG than the rest.. That was really popular in the muscle car days where you'd have one guys car just be alot faster somehow. I don't know? Weird. All I know is my 2.4 stomped every modified 2.2 around me even when I was stock. I thought the 2.2 was a little faster than that.. My **** just seems awfully quick for a 2.4.. I don't mind being a few MPG short to be fast..

Indeed I do have a 2.4 and asked about 2.4. It's even in the 2.4 area. But I'll take whatever. haha

My car is weird. I get like 18 city and 40 highway. Either that or my computer is fucked up. It's probably the latter.

<Mods in sig below>

I drive 186 miles a day 95% highway. My usual highway speed is 80-85mph (when I can).

Cobalt's display says overall average mpg is 29.8 and my average speed (since I bought the car/never reset) is 56mph.

I have my Interceptor's top display showing my IAT2 and the bottom showing my instant mpg which I watch like a hawk...

Just realized this was in 2.4... sorry...

Get the f*ck outta here, your AVERAGE speed for the life of the car is 56mph???

Damn, thats moving right along, I dont care if you do 80 on the parkway/X95 whatever....

My average speed for a work week is NEVER over 40mph. I live in rural south jersey, and heres only 3 traffic signals or stop signs on my entire 48mile commute, and only one 1.9 mile section where I cant do at least 50.
