Angry $2150 for new GM clutch in 2008 SS\TC

My SS\TC clutch is acting up with 4500 miles on it, GM will not replace it ( I know clutches are not a warranty item) but the damn thing should last at least 20-30k miles with a terrible driver! $800 for the flywheel alone. This is Friggn NUTS!!!!!!!Anyone have a upgrade suggestion that's about a grand less in cost. THX

Aftermarket or have it replaced under warranty. Talk to someone higher up at the dealer. It sounds like a warranty-able item to me.

Um, I thought the clutch assembly had 12 mo/12k miles warranty, along with the brakes.

Of course, this is what a salesman said, so it is most certainly wrong.

yeah it should be covered. i talked to my dealership about the clutch in my ss/sc thats slipping. i really didn't know what they were gonna say. but they said "its a 'wearable' item and it is warrantied, but only to 12,000 miles"

and i was told that by the head service manager

Wear items are never covered by warranty, ever.

Sounds like you do not understand the warranties on new vehicles. Under things not covered, it clearly states wear'n'tear items, such as hoses, brakes, clutches, tires and such.

You have a GM clutch that may have been already replaced once, or bought the GM clutch and took parts to the drl for install then you get a 12\12.

You should definitely have a new clutch put in free of charge. Do you know how to drive stick, or do you abuse it a lot? Honestly, you have to try and **** up the clutch for it to go with less then 5000 miles on it.

When I had my clutch and flywheel replaced by the dealership in my G6, they included a 12 month /12k mile warranty on it.

wow. 4,500 miles on the stock clutch and you already tore the heck out of it. That sure doesn't say much about the driver. Guess you should have got an automatic.

Don't take this advice

Seriously with the traction control and a lsd (I assume you have both) you really shouldn't be burning through clutches.

Can't you use the aftermarket clutches from the ss/sc or is the transmission different? If you can, I suggest centerforce dfx or the exedy hyper single (no problems with either of these). Exedy also makes a oem replacement if cost is an issue (it should be good to 330) it's about 300 bucks.

They should cover it, but if you abuse the car they're probably not.

It is possible that it is warranty, it really depends on what is wrong, if it is starting to slip you could have a bad slave cylinder, seems these cars are notorious for leaking slave cylinders which cause the clutch to slip, THAT IS COVERED BY WARRANTY. After only 4500 miles, I would be suprised if they dont cover that under warranty. Try calling the 1800 gm service line and explain your problem.

no it sounds like you dont understand hor warranty works

a good friend of mine is the warrenty person for a chevy dealership around here.

if there is any issues within the first 5000 kms (or w/e it is in miles)

it will be replaced on the spot....i would just fight with your dealership and say its a factory defect.

i work at a dealer and it is warrantied for i think 12k miles you need to talk to the general manager and if he doesnt help you tell them that you are going to call corporate and if they dont do anything about it call corporate

How do you screw up the clutches on these cars?

I thought this car was designed so you could rev the car at 5,000, and let the clutch out quickly and it would accerate as quick as quick as possible or as traction allows.
This car was also designed to handle no lift shifts.
I understand you shouldn't do this 100s of time but it should be able to handle most abuse.
Soo how do you screw up the clutch inless you apply pressure to the clutch while your driving?

Hmm, I'm sure that it was "Designed" with No Lift Shifts and Dump Launches in mind...

You should really have worked on your driving before taking the car to its limits. I don't think the dealer should pay for what is apparently your lack of judgment, warranty covered or not! Please take care of your car and things won't like this won't happen to it. I just hate it when people treat there cars like this and when things start going wrong with it they jump up and blame GM and say what a shitty car they made. If the dealer does step up and do this for you I hope you learn from this. end of rant sorry.

I think 08 TC clutch is larger dia than sc. Pedal feel is way diff! As for orig clutch you can make it last for many miles; when youre cruising you dont really need clutch after 2nd or even 1st first if you dont mind long pause between shift (depending on gear spacing in tranny, compression of motor, etc) .
Youre clutch should be warrantied for a year or 12000 like other post mentioned. If you're young some dealers can be difficult, so bring adult with an attitude next time, or get a rental car to learn on.

With all the stories of you being at the track, frying the clutch trying to do a 2nd gear burnout, the obscene amount of torque you're supposedly putting down, the slew of cars you've supposedly beaten on the street, why would you be surprised that your clutch is fucked? I have the same amount of miles as you, and not a single issue with the clutch, or any other part of the car for that matter.

Talking

Man I have taken my car to the track numerous times and now have over 78,000 miles on the original clutch. By no means am I easy on take offs either, it's ***** to the wall that's just the way I drive. I just don't understand how your clutch could be going out at 4500 miles, that's just insane.
