View Full Version : What Octane. . . Premier 10-02-2008, 12:55 PM do you use? Do you go to name brand fuels like Mobil, Shell, etc. . ? SKCobalt 10-02-2008, 12:58 PM I pretty much exclusivly buy my fuel from shell Bl4des 10-02-2008, 12:59 PM i dont care where i buy gas as long as it is 93 octane D4u2s0t 10-02-2008, 01:00 PM 93 octane. i go to the same gas stations but it's only because they're on my way to work and home. i wouldn't go out of the way for a particular brand of gas. Cobalt2921 10-02-2008, 01:02 PM I will only buy 87 from Shell. Even with my old car, it was always 93 V-Power from them too. bernandovelasquez 10-02-2008, 01:03 PM the v power gas is what octane ?? or does it vary ??? PinkStripedCobalt 10-02-2008, 01:04 PM I use 87 because i have an LS, everyone and a while put some 91+ in it!!!! I really like shell's gas but there are not very many around here! Cobalt2921 10-02-2008, 01:05 PM the v power gas is what octane ?? or does it vary ??? Every Shell I've been it's been 93, and I never used an octane booster either - but it was a 94 Dodge Intrepid with the 3.5L V6 and a 10.1:1 compression ratio Edubs 10-02-2008, 01:07 PM Car has never seen anything less than 93 except one time when I had to throw 91 in when I almost ran out on the Mass Turnpike. I typically use Mobil, Hess and Shell if I can find them, but prefer Chevron. Unfortunately, Chevron doesn't have any stations around here. I really am not that picky as long as the company is a recognizable name. If It's not one of the big companies, I don't like putting it in because I have no idea of the quality... Omega_5 10-02-2008, 01:30 PM Only 91 around here.... and only Shell V-Power for my motors... unless I'm only highway driving, then it's whatever premium fuel I can get a hold of. EXsoccer1921 10-02-2008, 01:31 PM i run 91. mostly because its the highest grade they sell here. and also cause i'm stock...for now. but the local track sells 116 so i can always pick up about 20 gallons and just mix it. alleycat58 10-02-2008, 01:33 PM 93 from whatever reputable company that does the least price gouging that's near where I'm at. So basically anything but BP. JPizzle 10-02-2008, 01:34 PM I always fill up at Hess. And of course, now I have the SS/TC, it will only be seeing 93 from now on! (The dumb ass dealership put 87 in when I bought it). monkeiboy 10-02-2008, 01:35 PM 93 V power from Shell, because that's what our stations offer here. I've put in 91 before, and I'm fine with that, but I've never put anything less in there. Good to see there are other nuts like me in here. I also do full synthetic oil changes at precisely 3,000 miles. Badju587 10-02-2008, 01:42 PM 91's the best stuff around in CO, so I use it. Stage 2 requires 93, so I'm either knocking to hell at WOT, or there's enough of a power drop up here that 91 is enough to stop it. OP, might wanna put 85 on there too, some places (like CO) sell it as regular instead of 87, which is mid-grade up here. cobaltssTH 10-02-2008, 03:08 PM always 93 umrdyldo 10-02-2008, 03:20 PM Oh and it's what I'm tuned for. PinaSS 10-02-2008, 03:21 PM v-power no matter what. thats what i use Edubs 10-02-2008, 03:24 PM Oh and it's what I'm tuned for. Where's the first half of this statement??? an0malous 10-02-2008, 03:28 PM holy crap this many posts and everyone so far using the correct gas for their car? *doubletake* INDColtsFan18 10-02-2008, 03:32 PM 93 V-Power. monkeiboy 10-02-2008, 04:04 PM holy crap this many posts and everyone so far using the correct gas for their car? *doubletake* That's what I'm screaming. Surprises the hell out of me. Even the LS/LT guys are splurging at the pump. jlong3382 10-02-2008, 05:22 PM Marathon 87. What else am I gonna use in a stock 2.2L? ChuckX182 10-02-2008, 05:25 PM Shell V-power 93 Octane or Sunoco Super 94 Octane. GTO 1 10-02-2008, 05:32 PM No problems or issues for me with 87. I try to use Shell or any GM recommended "Top Tier" fuel. GTO 1 riko540 10-02-2008, 06:22 PM I use 93 octane. I usually get my gas at a Hess station not to far from my house, its cheaper there than any other gas station around where I live. JPizzle 10-02-2008, 07:09 PM I use 93 octane. I usually get my gas at a Hess station not to far from my house, its cheaper there than any other gas station around where I live. I have a Mobil gas station 1 mile away from my house, but Hess 93 octane FTW! American gas!!! And it's always cheaper than Mobil, so that always helps. 06SuperSport 10-02-2008, 07:15 PM Shell V-Power 93 octane. jbenso4 10-02-2008, 07:17 PM haha i use 93 and i am a 2.2l........tune called for it lol Spanky's Monkey 10-02-2008, 09:57 PM i use 93 as well and the tune does run much better on it. tried 87 once post-tune and never looked back, it's like cancer now, avoid at all cost. o3nisoaso3 10-02-2008, 09:59 PM 93 sunoco. revolution607@yahoo. 10-02-2008, 10:07 PM i only use shell v-power and chevron gas, both 93 octane... best quality imo. Gestapo007 10-02-2008, 10:23 PM whatever is cheap. I prefer when the building is run down and they have a piece of tape that someone wrote "push here" on when the machine gets old and wore out. Badju587 10-03-2008, 09:01 AM whatever is cheap. I prefer when the building is run down and they have a piece of tape that someone wrote "push here" on when the machine gets old and wore out. Rippin07 10-03-2008, 04:46 PM I use 94 from the Husky, mid grade is 92 and reg. is 89 mxkx250 10-03-2008, 09:21 PM 93 from whatever reputable company that does the least price gouging that's near where I'm at. So basically anything but BP. Why not BP. Political or quality of gas? I use BP 91, it is AMOCO Gold. I always used AMOCO years ago when it was called "white" gas. It was unleaded but could be run in cars without problems even before cars were set up for unleaded gas. Jeremy360 10-04-2008, 02:44 PM holy crap this many posts and everyone so far using the correct gas for their car? *doubletake* This one time, at band camp, I ran diesel. :wtf: I keed, 93 from Shell or 94 from Husky, I never have looked into the ethanol(I think) that Husky uses as an octane booster and if there's any downside to it. gatekeeper 10-10-2008, 02:25 PM 93....usually from Chevron. I try and avoid places that buy oil from Venezuela, even though they tend to be a couple cents cheaper. 06SS ALL DAY 12-09-2008, 12:09 PM I use 91 from sunoco because they have 10% ethenol and we all know the more of that shit the crappier your car runs and more shitty the mpg's Ryguy_stage2_SS 12-14-2008, 11:53 AM i use shell. mostly because of the air miles... and theres 5 of them with in 3-5 min from my house 2 of them just down the road each way. never use less the 91 in mine El_diablos_SS/TC 12-14-2008, 11:59 AM I am using 89 Octane with 10% I figure its about to snow here and I am not racing anyone. We do have 1 gas station that has CONCO 93 octane and another that has BP 92. I use the 92 in my Buick because I do not get any knock(which makes me believe it is higher than 92) than when I use the 93 octane from the other gas station. I hve to use 91+ for my buick because of the chip and modds that are on it. So I use 89 in the winter and 92 in the summer for my SS/TC. ace921000 12-14-2008, 03:16 PM i have been putting 87 in my sport. how much of a difference will there be if i use 93? brickloaf 12-14-2008, 05:34 PM hahaha omg there cobalts guys, putting the highest octane gas isnt worth it 06SS ALL DAY 12-15-2008, 03:14 PM hahaha omg there cobalts guys, putting the highest octane gas isnt worth it i guess premium breaks his bank. get a better job than dood. redssna 12-15-2008, 04:35 PM hahaha omg there cobalts guys, putting the highest octane gas isnt worth it Take an SS/SC or SS/TC, throw some 87 in there and go do a bunch of wide open throttle pull's. Then tell me how your car is doing. D4u2s0t 12-15-2008, 04:44 PM hahaha omg there cobalts guys, putting the highest octane gas isnt worth it you fail. and obviously, like most people, you don't understand what octane is, and how it affects your car. 2.2 use regular if you want. if you have a 2.4, or especially a 2.0 and use regular but are not tuned for it you're an idiot. you're getting LESS GAS MILEAGE with your regular gas, which makes the "savings" not even worth it. you're better off using what the car is designed to run on. deanle07 12-15-2008, 04:47 PM i buy 93 from shell. its right by my house. or in ohio i get 89 or 93 from marathon right across from my house. 06SS ALL DAY 12-15-2008, 04:59 PM can anyone explain why the hell Jersey gas is dirt cheap and they pump your gas for you? thats insane D4u2s0t 12-15-2008, 05:17 PM can anyone explain why the hell Jersey gas is dirt cheap and they pump your gas for you? thats insane i don't question it. it was pretty damn expensive for a while. a few months ago it was over 50 to fill up. now i fill up for about 17 deanle07 12-15-2008, 05:19 PM its cheap because im pretty sure they have oil reserves from many years ago that they can pull from. El_diablos_SS/TC 12-15-2008, 10:21 PM I have a SS/TC and use 89 with 10% enthonel so I don't have to put HEET in my gas tank because of the -5 degree weather we are having. red06SC 12-16-2008, 03:24 AM BritishPetrol 93 please seems to have the lowest ethanol content of any around here, my SC will cough up anything else (Shell, Marathon, etc) redcblt265 12-16-2008, 10:40 PM IMO .. I use ONLY mobil, and sometimes sunoco. i try to stay away from citgo, shell, cumbys, etc, for the fact that they water them down, id rather have purer fuel in my car. 06SS ALL DAY 12-17-2008, 09:06 AM i don't question it. it was pretty damn expensive for a while. a few months ago it was over 50 to fill up. now i fill up for about 17 no your gas was still cheap when the prices sky rocekted... maybe its cheaper because you guys get paid less when working... so they make everyone "affordable" except for cigs... but gas and booze have always been cheap comparred to ANNNNYONE else lol. so when you think your prices are high for gas... just come over the bridge and fill up. lol HackAbuse 12-17-2008, 09:10 AM Yeah, the E10 shit here in NY is everywhere. I'd rather use traditional gas. I also keep a 5 gallon tank in the trunk filled. It's my reserves. D4u2s0t 12-17-2008, 10:48 AM no your gas was still cheap when the prices sky rocekted... maybe its cheaper because you guys get paid less when working... so they make everyone "affordable" except for cigs... but gas and booze have always been cheap comparred to ANNNNYONE else lol. so when you think your prices are high for gas... just come over the bridge and fill up. lol you're kiddin me, right? this whole statement is ass backwards  new jersey has the 2nd highest average income per state in the country first off :cssNET: 2nd off gas was like 5 dollars a gallon a few months back. people from jersey move to pennsylvania because it's so much more affordable. but other than that, i never like to complain about gas prices, most of the time i don't even look. since it dropped so suddenly recently, i take a look just because i get nervous that they're putting in regular. First time i filled up and got a receipt for like 20 dollars i was like whoa buddy what the fuck  SprChrg4Life 12-18-2008, 09:26 PM 93 octane here :) most stations i fill up at (BP, Sonoco, Hess) only offer 87, 89 and 93. even if i see 91 i go 93 it's only 5 cents more usually. 1WhiteSSTC 12-19-2008, 06:15 PM do you use? Do you go to name brand fuels like Mobil, Shell, etc. . ? if your still paying attention to this thread, it's been proven that 93octane is better for the ss/tc LNF. So where ever u can find 93 octane stick with it 08redcobalt 12-23-2008, 07:59 AM we run v power 87 in our cobalt lt with no problems. It gets the best gas milage and has the most power. I only run cheap gas in my truck. |
