|
View Full Version : Lap? pjk91 10-02-2008, 09:12 PM What is the LAP? JonyyB 10-02-2008, 09:13 PM The LAP is a 2.2 L — 2189 cc (133.5 in3) — version of the Ecotec, based on the Gen II block. Bore and stroke are 86 mm (3.4 in) and 94.6 mm (3.7 in), the same as the 2.2 L L61. Compression ratio is 10.0:1. Major features that set it apart from the 2.2 L L61 are variable-valve-timing and other cylinder head improvements from the 2.4 L LE5. Used In: 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt 155 hp (116 kW) @ 6100 rpm 150 lb·ft (203 N·m) @ 4900 rpm 2009 Pontiac G5 155 hp (116 kW) @ 6100 rpm 150 lb·ft (203 N·m) @ 4900 rpm Info source: wikipedia  Spanky's Monkey 10-02-2008, 09:15 PM are there any around? This could mean easy tuning in the future... HunterKiller89 10-03-2008, 07:23 AM so, a gain of 7 hp, and a loss of 5 tq. Not very useful from a performance standpoint. however, i spose VVT gives it some more beathing options now, but now theres no cams for the 2.2 again! lol BoffDude 10-03-2008, 04:34 PM vvt should improve gas mileage for stock, but a big deal with a boost app. you could run a cam-timer and have it open earlier for more power at the low end. Maven 10-03-2008, 08:51 PM Yes, quite simply, the LAP is a 2.2L LE5. If you could put a 2.4 head onto an L61 youd what an LAP is. The LAP and the LE5 share the same head and intake manifold, the LE5 has a lrger 65mm TB though, the LAP has the same ~60mm TB as the L61 SS07 10-03-2008, 11:40 PM Sweet first page in the first thread!!!! Maven 10-04-2008, 02:17 AM vvt should improve gas mileage for stock, but a big deal with a boost app. you could run a cam-timer and have it open earlier for more power at the low end. Its not VTAK yo. pjk91 10-04-2008, 11:46 AM Does the LE5 head flow more air than the LSJ head? Maven 10-04-2008, 03:32 PM Does the LE5 head flow more air than the LSJ head? No, not to my knowledge. It does have different runner paths though. All 3 major head designs(LSJ/L61/LE5) have different designed runners But they all have the same sized valves, and very similar unported flow characteristics. BULLETSSMOKE 10-05-2008, 12:06 PM im guessing this is the XFE engine? FacelessKhaos 10-05-2008, 02:09 PM im guessing this is the XFE engine? Yes and No. The 08 early 09 XFE engines were still the L61 but they were "XFE" because they had different final drive ratios, different tires, and a slight adjustment to air/fuel mix to give it a mpg improvement of maybe 1-3 more than the reg L61. But now that the L61 is being phased out in favor of the LAP, the XFE Engine will be the LAP with a different final drive ratio and different stock tires. KyleMinnis 10-06-2008, 03:03 PM nice the new balts are all gonna be quicker:) Maven 10-06-2008, 04:22 PM nice the new balts are all gonna be quicker:) Only as much as 7hp gain and 2 lb.ft LOSS can make you. The LAP makes 2 less lbs of torque and its peak isnt until 4900(4200 for L61) The one advantage the LAP has stock is that it has a broader flat torque curve, due to the VVT. An L61 with a 2.4 Manifold will likely make them same/more horspower than the LAP, And the LAP has no "larger" manifold to upgrade to as it already uses the LE5 manifold, and since its still a 2.2 its just as likely that it wont benefit anymore from the larger 65mm TB than the L61 does(the LAP and L61 both have the same 60mm TB) Id be very curious(am also slightly jealous) to see what an LAP will do with some LE5 cams in it. Maybe Ill trade up instead of a refi. nhanson 10-08-2008, 12:08 PM im interested in how it does boost....cause i know the l61 is rated shit for peak horsepower.... Maven 10-08-2008, 12:35 PM im interested in how it does boost....cause i know the l61 is rated shit for peak horsepower.... Itll "do boost" the same as the L61, its no stronger, it uses the same crank, rods, pistons, valves, etc... cobalt9123 10-25-2008, 01:43 PM licking a pussy? Blue_Balt 10-25-2008, 05:55 PM licking a pussy? It's just a code name. It doesn't stand for anything. nhanson 10-29-2008, 12:08 AM anyone know how much theyve gotten the stock 2.2 for hp with or without blowing up yet? i know mkruley is at 249 whp so hes getting very close domin8_gt 11-01-2008, 04:17 AM licking a pussy? It's just a code name. What guy wouldn't want to do that?...if it's the right kind of course.:p::cssNET: StreetglowCobalt 11-13-2008, 09:04 PM A guy i know ( Mitchell Lovett) out of Morgantown, WV has an '06 cobalt threw a custom twin turbo w/ intercooler, corsa catback, Injen air intake, 3" downpipe, stage 3 injectors, pulleys, and other goodies. Runs about 403 hp. He wont join the site because he thinks he will get scam emails and phone calls. |
