I am certainly a very new owner of an SS/SC since i bought mine yesterday and barely have 350miles.... although, i have seen numerous amounts of topics with engine upgrades and wheel hop fixes.

my question is, has anyone experimented with weight reduction. if so, have you experienced any noticeable performance gains?

other then removing the spare in the trunk and there floor matts (haha). I don't think anyone really has done anything. Maybe a hood swap and save about 15lbs but the real mod one skinny ass guy or gal in the car that weighs next to nothing!

i removed the spare once and it didnt help much, maybe a 100th of a sec. not really worth the risk of getting a flat if you ask me.
maybe try looking into CF hood and trunk...

remove the spare tire and jack, floor mats, and back seat. Thats a start. Remove the front passenger seat if your really in the need for a ET.

yeah. i figured the obvious things have been done. just wondering if this liittle car noticed a slight weight reduction.

i guess unless one completely stripped down that car, there isnt much that can be done.
thx for the comments so far

does anyone know what exactly makes this little car so heavy? i mean if we put on carbon fiber hood trunk and fenders it seems like we may be lucky to lose 50 pounds,

The wheels, at least on the SS/SC, weigh about 50 lbs each with tires. Weighed them the other day when i was rotating the tires.

This car also has a relativly tall body so that can account for it. All that interior room does have its drawbacks.

thats odd though i mean maybe its the quiet steel we have maybe its heavy stuff? my celica weighed about 2400 and now going from that into a 2900 car feels like a huge car

Quiet steel is most likely just insulated steel like they show on one of the car commercials. I can see that adding some weight but not alot.

i just snagged a set of 17" aftermarket racing rims from my dad's STi.

i'll post up if i notice any obvious changes. unfortunately there will be winter tires mounted on the rims.

yeah, because the tire is larger even though the rim is smaller. the bolt pattern was different, however the rims had two bolt patterns.

i think i had a stroke of luck with that

i had to order new lugnuts with a larger thread for the Cobalt SS/SC and they are coming in today.
