yes throttle response plays a role.

Get an intake and exhaust to make it seem more peepy.

let me put it this way, i knew you had a 2.2 auto before i read the part where you said what car you had. i had one for 2 years, and that's just the way it is.

Some cars are worse than others. My father's 4-cyl Ford Fusion is absolutely horrible about it. You can slam that pedal with everything you have and it'll fart along for 5-6 seconds before you get a response. By comparison the Cobalt LS is the Mach 5.

Get an intake, and a B&M Shift+. It'll make it feel much more responsive.

The computer limits how fast the throttle body opens which is very noticable when going WOT. The more mods and power you push through, the more you notice it. Luckily for the SS and 2.4 guys we can tune it to open much faster to eliminate that bit of drag you feel.

cruising around at 30mph is either in 3rd gear or 4thgear....when you floor it, the car takes a good half second or so to disengage 3rd gear, rev to the appropriate RPM (probably about 5500RPM at 30mph), and engage 1st gear....it cant be instantaneous.
Put the car in L so it is already in 1st gear...then floor it...youll notice theres no delay at all...

Yep, If you want it to be more responsive, shift through the gearbox manually, going from L to I and you can choose what gear your in. I wouldnt recomend that for daily driving though.
