Quest to find winter rims for the SS/TC...
Hi guys. I'm getting panicky here.
I need to get some winter rims. I don't want to put winters on the existing rims for several reasons, including potential damage to the TPMS sensors. I know some people have spoken to the tire rack and that there was no fitment done yet. To this end I'm thinking of going for a long road trip this weekend to the tire rack (7 hours!). Partly to break in the car (get it over with), and partly to obtain those elusive rims.
Is there anything I should know? People to talk to? I figure if I go, it might be beneficial to others here. But boy would i be frustrated to end up going home without rims. I could live with using spacers if necessary.
Mal.

(sigh) The reason I posted in the general section is quite simply due to the fact that the rim problem exists solely with the TC. That, and I need the exposure prior to leaving (soon) on a 7 hour road trip to help the community.

I think you should know you should break in your car in mixed road conditons, per manual. What makes you think you will damage the TPMS during winter driving?

Rocket,
The break in issue is interesting. My (canadian) manual states 800km. I'm under the impression that yours states a longer break in period? In any case, I'll be driving the first leg in varied conditions to accommodate this. Thanks for the heads up though!
Regarding the TPMS - the local tire dealers tell me they sometimes damage the TPMS on these cars accidentally when swapping tires. It's not so much the winter as the swap I mean. Have a separate set of rims solves this problem.
I have a tentative appointment for Tuesday morning for a fitment at the Tire Rack, so hopefully right after that, you should have access to fitment information on their website for this vehicle.
Thanks,
Mal.

One more thing, If you can take close up pictures if you do find a wheel that clears the Brembos, thanks.
Definitely looking forward to the result of this. I'd rather not run my stock rims in the winter!
(Wait, I think I just said I'd rather destroy some aftermarket rims than run my stock ones in the winter... Well, I guess there's a first time for everything!)

Guys, I'm finding it hard to get out of the family plans for canadian thanksgiving this weekend, so I have to postpone my road trip until the following Monday, so I'll be going on the 20th. But I will definitely be going then, so you'll have some results. Sorry for the delay!
I'll get some pics of the ones I buy, which will be inexpensive ones for the winter. I'll try for 17s first if possible. If I go 17, do I go with 224/45?

I really hope 17's will fit! I want smaller wheels for some M/T E/T Streets... I want to pull 2.00 60's! I think it could be done with E/T Streets on 17's easily. I may even see some 1.9x with drag bags! Thanks for going to get fitted and please let us know what happens!
with your TPMS sensors no damage should be done by any competant tire tech
or the fact than an 11 mil can remove the sensor, drop it in the wheel, then just fish it out when the tire has been dismounted.
