Oil Change Info?

Hello all. I did a search but all the info seems to be info on the SC motor.

I was wondering as to some specifics for the LNF Turbo motor so that I can perform my own oil changes.

How many quarts does the motor take?
What brand of oil do you all recommend?
What is the oil filter part number?

Any other helpful info would be appreciated. Thanks.

How many quarts does the motor take? Read the manual
What brand of oil do you all recommend? Mobil 1 - look at the oil cap
What is the oil filter part number? Go to a parts store and look in the book

Any other helpful info would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hope this helps

The manual will tell you how many quarts, and I'm pretty sure its just like the LSJ which is about 5-6. There are alot of different oils that members like to use, but it seems like Royal Purple & Mobil1 5w-30 are used the most. All I know about the oil filter is that they went with a canister i believe.

Thats one thing that I haven't even check up on this car. I have checked the oil but was not thinking about the oil change. It is the same as the LSJ minus the SC in the way, right? If so it pretty simple, much easier than other cars. Drain the oil, find the oil filter housing cap on top of the engine, use right sized socket unscrew it pop out the old filter cartridge and put the new one in. Fill with mobile 1(6.5qt???) I will check tomorrow but I would assume it is the same.

I literally just changed my oil yesterday for the first time. I picked up a 5 QT bottle for Mobil 1 5w30 from Wal-Mart for $25 and an oil filter. The little computer thing at wal-mart did not have the 2008 or 2009 ss listed for part numbers for the filter. So I looked up the 2007 ss and hoped it was the same part. The filters looked identical, so I'm assuming they didn't change anything.

Jacked up the car drained the oil, then got worried because it looked like more than 5 QTs! So I didn't COMPLETELY drain it. It was still dripping a bit before I capped the drain plug. The oil filter housing is in the same location as the SS S/C's. So I swapped that out and put in the entire 5 QT bottle of oil and checked the dipstick....nothing. Luckily I have extra bottles of Mobil 1 5w30 lying around from my 06 ss s/c I had earlier this year. I put in maybe another half quart to a quart, but I couldn't really measure it at all. Dipstick looked good and started her up and reset the oil life.

Can anyone verify the exact amount of oil this car uses?

I guess if you have lost the manual. Otherwise, why use the online reference when you have the reference from GM themselves?

Canister FTL! The cartridge is soo easy to replace.. and you don't spill oil all over the place when you remove it.

What's with all the negativity about asking a simple question? If you know, type an answer. If you don't know, don't type an answer. Pretty simple stuff. I'm pretty surprised too because I read posts all over this forum with stupid questions. People still answer them. That's what forums are for. If that's how you feel then you might as well not even have a forum and tell everybody to go buy the shop manuals for the car and read up. Obviously the amount of oil used is a simpler matter, but I'm not at home. I don't have the manual in front of me, and I'm curious. Therefore I asked a question.

I bet it is 6.5, but I wouldn't just throw in 6.5qt's of oil and call it good. You had the right idea by putting it in little by little. Even if you see it own the dip stick it is a good procedure to start the car let it run for a couple of minutes then check it again. When I drain my oil I walk away and do something else to give it time to drain(not necessary but I do it anyway). But I don't know how am going to do all this WITHOUT A ******* FACTORY JACK! I guess I will ether buy factory set up or break down and buy one even though I don't have space for it in my travels. Am I wrong or did the SS/SC manual give a lower capacity than what people were putting in? I always fill to max capacity

the lsj is more like between 6-7. 5 won't even register on the stick. i would think the lnf is about the same.

I don't understand why it needs so much though. Other turbocharged I-4 motors use 4.5 to 5 QTs usually.

Generally the idea is the more oil the cooler and cleaner it stays(cooler oil means longer bearing life). Its something thats been used in racing for awhile now.

Think this might be my first post too lol. Cant wait for my Promotion to go though so I can get one of these nice cars.

Mine took a tad less than 5.25 quarts of M-1 5w30 full syn. to end up right in the middle of the range on the dipstick. Picked up a filter with the oil at Advance Auto (was on special) - guy at the counter verified the part number I looked up in the book by all of the filters. You'll need a 32mm socket IIRC for the filter cartridge and a 15mm wrench for the drain plug.

To reset oil life, turn key to run, hit the Info and <--| buttons at the same time, and scroll throught the menu with the Info button until you get to Reset Oil Life. Hold down the <--| button briefly until it has reset and turn off key.

Also, make sure when you check the dip stick, you have let the car run for a minute first and you're on level ground.

well then the ss/tc is different. because like i said, 5 quarts won't even register on the ss/sc unless you didn't drain all the oil.

I'll just use my factory fill level as a reference. It was above the full mark, but just below the top of the "dunker thing" attached to the end of the stick. This weekend, when I had the dealer do my 1st change (too damn sick to do it myself) they filled it to exactly the same level as the factory did. Judging from what all the Sky owners said, that's somewhere between 5-6 quarts.

Look at Rusty's post from up above, he said the same about the TC. There is the exact same post in the LSJ section with about the same responses. To many people jump and say 5qts. Well me, D4u2s0t, and the rest of the board have the conformation that 5qts does nothing for the LSJ and Rusty confirms that it does nothing for the LNF. Bottom line add the 5qt jug and then half qt by half qt until you reach the top notch.
