G5 fascias start life as Cobalt fascias, and are modified at factory. PROOF:

that is interesting. I bet they save a bunch of money doing that (only one die a the manufacturer of the front facia), plus they probably just recycle the plastic.

Interesting to know.

Probably a hell of a lot cheaper than a new mold,

Shit, not like the plastic is gonna rust, so they don't even need to finish at the cut...

They make such a relatively low number of G5's compared to Cobalts... it only makes sense.

Now I wish I would have looked more into my idea of a G5 grille on the Cobalt. I didn't think it was just add-on stuff over the Cobalt bumper.

maybe its just on the new model g5 (2009) and the older ones had their own mold... since gm did alot of cost cutting lately with no 2.4 and all that jazz... just more money in their pocket now right.

True there's no 2.4, but the 2.4 fascias continue in the TC obviously and in the new 2.2 G5 GT's as well as LT2 + sport package.

You guys sound like you never heard of car makers sharing parts with other car lines. Been doing it since forever. Just one quick example. Look at the older Firebirds and Camaros. Same chassis, running gear (except engine) and some of the sheet metal but different front and rear facias. GM shared early 350's with several carlines at one time. It's nothing new.

Nothing new of course not. But this is kind of unique way of doing it.

Also.....early 350s werent shared among the different brands........almost every brand (Chevy, Buick, Olds, Pontiac) had a 350 v8, but they were all unique engines. Each brand had its own unique castings, and none of them even shared the same bore/stroke, they were truly each brands own engine.

It wasnt until the late 70s, and even more so the early 80s where GM started using "corporate" engines. It was at this point that all the unique v8s died.......only Chevy v8s remained, the V6s were either Chevy or Buick derived, and the 4 cylinders were Pontiac or Chevy.
