View Full Version : Had to take the SS back....
titaniumss 10-31-2008, 06:16 PM To the dealership. We got my car from a stealership in Oklahoma. Well, I guess, come to find out, they do HORRIBLE PDI's with their cars! The shifter cable needed replacing and also a tie rod? I don't know how you miss things while inspecting a brand new car but apparently they did. Oh well, just a pain in the ass to drive an hour to get to the only dealership I trust around me. Hopefully now it will run right so I can get the springs, downpipe, and tune on it finally.
Rownan 10-31-2008, 06:23 PM how did you find out that these things were in need of work? just random sounds that didn't seem right?
I know a bad tie rod can cause all sorts of alignment issues, not exactly something that is hard to miss as you drive it off the lot.
titaniumss 10-31-2008, 06:28 PM Shifting it felt solid 50% of the time and sloshy the other 50%. That's been since I got it. I'm not sure what was with the tie rod, I noticed it being funny every now and then, like it was bad, but still held on a little bit.
R4race 10-31-2008, 06:49 PM I hate to say it, but I do believe SOME dealers don't even do thier PDIs
Depending on thier volume, some dealers will not have a dedicated PDI tech. My local dealer is one of the biggest in my state, and DO have a dedicated PDI tech.
Pyros777 10-31-2008, 06:52 PM Yeah I think they skipped at least some part of the PDI on my car because it shook like crazy on the drive home. Turns out the wheels weren't balanced at all.
redninja6r 10-31-2008, 07:58 PM Mine is going back in next week but for cosmetic. First off, they didn't have any SS in on the lot, so they went and got the car from a dealership in Ohio (Toledo I think, it was 292 miles away from me in Pa). I was very happy with the deal I got, esp on my trade. Anyway, I picked it up at 5 pm on my anniversary, car looked great, I didn't notice anything except that it had a front lic plate ( NOT required in Pa, but it is in Ohio). Not a big deal, I figured I'd take it off the next day. There was one on my Si when I bought it, and it just screwed into holes in the grill). So my wife and kids and I drove to Erie for dinner, it's only a half hour away. The next day I was at work, where I could see the front of the car, and I noticed a dimple on the front spoiler drivers side about a third of the way in. I went to check it out, and here all the paints knocked off underneath, the plastic is mis-shapen a little bit, and the paint shows pressure marks. It looks like chain damage from the carrier. I don't know how I ever missed it, especially since I am really anal about that kind of stuff. Also I found out the lic plate was drilled right into the bumper!! They used screws right into the plastic. So I complained to the dealer, and they are fixing it. They are replacing the bottom spoiler, but they said they can fix the holes in the bumper. I don't know how they're going to do that, but if there are marks I'm going to make them replace it! I do love the car though, I just don't want any dings on it esp brand new and I sure don't want a ghey front plate.
Rownan 10-31-2008, 08:53 PM suckage, I purchased my ss from a dealer in Ohio also and specifically asked that the front license plate be left off... It was, but there are still holes in my bumper, they tried to tell me that the holes are there no matter what, not sure if I should believe that. I'll probably end up filling them in myself.
cmiller8006 10-31-2008, 09:05 PM I live in ohio and still dont have my plate on the front, they come with little dimples but no holes
sptrdss 10-31-2008, 09:10 PM hey,the bumper cover comes with shallow dimples on it from the factory so they know where to put the screws for the license plate bracket. When I ordered my 09,I specifically told them not to install the front plate bracket which they did.If you want I can send you a pick of the front of my car to show you, there are no holes.
redninja6r 11-02-2008, 08:32 AM I know what you guys are talking about. I've had other cars like that with the dimples. I just want the plate removed and the holes fixed or the bumper cover replaced. They have to replace the chin spoiler anyway. I did find a Penguins plate I really like so I guess it isn't a big deal for the front plate, but I'd rather not have it. The dinged chin spoiler is a must though. Looks like chain damage from the car carrier.
rudeone79 11-02-2008, 02:59 PM i didnt see dimples on mine. ill go check later.

any licensed tech can do a PDI.

balancing the wheels is not part of the PDI, that should have been done at the factory. But the car should have at least been taken for a test drive while being PDI'd and that should have been noticed
titaniumss 11-02-2008, 08:06 PM Shifter cable was bent. They bent it back and ordered a new one since they are on backorder now. Also removed the 5th gear lockout on an adjustment.

Then they adjusted it WRONG! They should release the cable end links and put the shifter it into the reverse lockout notch and then adjust the cables accordingly... :nono:
titaniumss 11-03-2008, 10:53 AM I don't know exactly what they did but it shifts and feels correct now. I just can't get on it and no lift shift until the new shifter cable is in.

When you said 5th gear lockout, you meant reverse correct?
titaniumss 11-03-2008, 04:41 PM Nope. I literally had to pull up (like you do in reverse) to get it into 5th gear. So yeah, something needed adjusting lol.
