New carnage pics.

Well, back in August I had an incident where my differential said "I quit". (some of you may remember this thread: https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/pictures-videos-64/why-blowing-up-your-car-can-cool-130348/)

The end result was the spider gears in the diff exploding and making a ungodly awful noise that literally made my heart stop for a moment. the entire tranny case was cracked, split, and had large holes punched through it. It took almost a month to get my car back. Fate was on my side and i was able to receive a brand new transmission, clutch, and flywheel all under warranty. A friend at the dealer just sent me two more pics of the tranny once they got it out of the car.

I'm throwing in the towel with this car. I have parted it out and is back to stock. Time to move on to bigger and better (and faster!) things.

Nope. The car is good as new again. I plan on selling it. I still owe a little over 10K.(6 year 0% loan)

And yes, the car was driven hard like most of these cars owners do. the tranny and clutch had over 46,000 miles before they decided to go.

That sucks that you had so many problems. I know of quite a few people that have given up on the cobalt. All have just had the worst luck, mostly being tranny problems. Sucks that it has to be that way.

On a side note, most of the people I know are (in all honesty, not trying to bash anyone) not that great of a driver. The actual FAST people that I know of with fast quarter mile times, haven't had near as many problems as anyone else because they aren't abusing their cars with inexperienced driving skills. (that's a nice way to put it)

Oh well, just one less car for me and hatrickstu to have competition with. lol.

that's the thing. the tranny problem was the only problem i had with this car. But the truth is, i think i am just done with FWD sport compact performance. I have no hard feelings about the cobalt. It still is a great little car. Its just a matter of preference for me. I will still own 4 cyl FWD cars as daily drivers, but that's all i see myself doing with FWD again.

As far as being a bad driver, i'm sure you were not insinuating that I am a bad driver, but everyone knows that the non LSD transmissions weak link is the differential. I was able to get 46,000 miles out of the stock clutch and transmission with countless trips to the track and times when i felt like getting 'silly'. I also never let the thing wheel hop uncontrollably. You gotta pay to play. I know it, and so should everyone else.

I'll let you guys know whats going on when the cobalt is sold (taking offers BTW. $14,000?) and i find the poor helpless corvette that is going to be my new toy.

Funny, most of the guys I've known has LSD trannys that took a ****. The faster guys that have "fast" quarter mile times (me and stu and a few others) are on non lsd trannys.

And I wasn't implying that you are a bad driver, I was implying that you have inexperienced FWD drag skills. But whatever. I'm not going to get in a pissing contest. Maybe your car just had a weaker trans, but your mileage tells otherwise.

No pissing match intended. I did say that the weak link in the non LSD tranny is the differential. not that the LSD trans are better overall. I agree, i do not have great on track skills with a FWD. Its all ok. the car is back and just as good as before and i'm moving on. Good luck with your car man. you got that thing pretty dialed in.

Yeah, i think FWD performace was spoiled for me when i drove that turbocharged vette. That and i miss my old fox body mustang. I'm still going with a vette.
