View Full Version : Chip StreetglowCobalt 11-02-2008, 03:07 PM does anyone have or know of a chip for 2009 cobalt 2.2? i found one at betterairflow.com anyone heard of this?HELP 05blkbalt 11-02-2008, 03:11 PM dont buy a chip. not to mention most dont work. just get a tune it will be much better. StreetglowCobalt 11-02-2008, 03:17 PM whats a tune? im new to this stuff, and how much would it be and is there a link you could give me thank you so much Maven 11-02-2008, 06:56 PM First of all, welcome to the site!!!!! Secondly, you should really do a search on this subject and delete BOTH of the threads you started before people rip you a new anus. There are no "chips" for our engines(GM hasnt used chips since about 95 or so) Your looking at the JET Module. This module tweaks air/fuel/ignition inputs to the ECM to get better performance A "tune" is using computer software to change current software parameters in your engine control module in order to get top performance. Please search, and again, I dont think these threads will make a good impression on you as to how this can realy be. You may want to seriosuly consider deleting them and starting over. :) tru2nrtt777 11-04-2008, 06:15 PM Maven, look at his screen name... I had the same thought! 1WhiteSSTC 11-04-2008, 07:10 PM whats a tune? im new to this stuff, and how much would it be and is there a link you could give me thank you so much a tune is when someone plugs in a computer to your cars computer and adjusting alot of special electronic controllers that are embedded into the cars software, doing this can increase HP, torque, and even MPG. There is one person on here I'd figure could tune u and that's psychosteve with the Mustang signature, he's a master tuning machine StreetglowCobalt 11-05-2008, 09:18 AM well i am only 16 years old so i really shouldnt know what i am doing but i am trying to get things in order with my cobalt! 1WhiteSSTC 11-05-2008, 05:16 PM well i am only 16 years old so i really shouldnt know what i am doing but i am trying to get things in order with my cobalt! don't feel bad, there is alot of rotten apples on this forum of which we all have to deal with on a daily basis.........eventually they fuk up and get banned camarokiller 11-05-2008, 05:17 PM does anyone have or know of a chip for 2009 cobalt 2.2? i found one at betterairflow.com anyone heard of this?HELP Check your fuses 1WhiteSSTC 11-05-2008, 07:37 PM Check your fuses ..............how does that relate to the thread? Honestly the original post is not what you should be asking. You dont know what the difference between a chip and a tune are. Google that shit or even search it here. I dont see why everyone here has to ask about stuff they dont even know what it does. I tell you what, paypal me $100 and I will send you a quart of high performance blinker fluid (http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=6) and an O-bent exhaust pipe (http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=2). Hahaha! originaladrian 11-05-2008, 08:18 PM guys, hes young, lay off. at least hes asking first instead of just doing stupid shit and then posting back here to get flamed. hes doing the rite thing buy asking for advice. but now that u have it, if u ever mention a chip again, i guarantee u will get flamed lol, just the way it is. 1WhiteSSTC 11-05-2008, 08:43 PM Honestly the original post is not what you should be asking. How bout next time you don't know something we all call u a fuking retard? How bout you actually do some research before you ask on a topic you know nothing about? Chip and Tune are not Cobalt sensitive terms, they relate to anything with fuel injection a.k.a. things made before consumer computers(eccept for the mechanical fuel injected cars of the early 80's). Had he asked the difference between a chip and a tune I would have had no problem being nice but him asking about something typically indicates he knows the difference, or atleast knows both are intended to do the same thing eccept one is cheaper. Had he wiki'd and google'd those terms he would have gotten the answer without hastle. It is like all the threads that are about where to find a 3" exhaust for a 2.2 with no mods. Btw, I have no problem being wrong but atleast I understand the concept of the search button. 1WhiteSSTC 11-05-2008, 11:53 PM How bout you actually do some research before you ask on a topic you know nothing about? Some ppl learn by asking questions and doing minimal reading, others can learning most of wat they need by reading textbooks........everyone is different, don't be an asshole because someone learns things a different way than u do. afireinside7710 11-06-2008, 10:06 AM camerokiller was loller-banned and OP, dont use chips, it makes baby jesus cry 1WhiteSSTC 11-06-2008, 04:36 PM camerokiller was loller-banned and OP, dont use chips, it makes baby jesus cry truth, chips are only good on some makes and models, usually only older ones but occasionally there is a new car that u can just slap a chip in it for the retuning process but it's still better to get someone with experience to tune your car, you will always net better MPG and HP with someone who has tuning experience. HackAbuse 11-06-2008, 04:39 PM Despite what you have been told, chips do not exist. In today's terminology, a "chip" is a resistor that replaces your MAF sensor, which to uneducated logic would "make more power" but in reality, it makes your car run like shit. Maven 11-06-2008, 08:58 PM now explain why countless members on css.net talk about GTI's that are chipped? Because VW's are chipped. VW tuners(like APR, etc.) actually install CHIPS into the ECM. Its not something like the old GM EPROMS that were plug and play in your driveway. Modern VW "chips" are soldered into the ECM. If you were to disassembled a "chipped" GTI it would be visually apparent tru2nrtt777 11-06-2008, 09:15 PM Wow, warranty voided right there. Im all seriousness, you want to go for an CAI (cold air intake) and/or a cat-back exhaust. It will cost you 3-6 hundred to get both tru2nrtt777 11-06-2008, 11:35 PM At minimum you can get a catback for about $200, intake for $45 afireinside7710 11-06-2008, 11:41 PM At minimum you can get a catback for about $200, intake for $45 thats a minimum though Red07SSNA 11-06-2008, 11:43 PM Considering you have a 2.2 LAP -- this engine is new to the aftermarket vendors so there probably isn't much in the way of a "tune" for your engine. If money isn't a problem, start with the basics, cat-back exhaust, intake, and maybe an LSJ/Ext-honed manifold -- these will free up horsepower. That way you'll be ready for a tune or module when something becomes available.
