first of all. i was going to do this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T3-T4-Turbo-Turbocharger-Internal-wastegate-8psi-V-Band_W0QQitemZ200274734058QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotor s_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item20027473405 8&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A1171%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A131 8

then do an intercooler, BOV, intercooler piping kit, and boost gauge w/ controller. Is that a good idea going ebay style cuz it seems like a good deal

your need alot more parts than that you need to fabricate a new intake manifold and headders... also as far as tuneing your need to find sometime of piggy back ecu or else the turbo wont work at all, no such thing as cheap when it comes to performance

unlike the 2.0 and 2.4 there is no tuning available

Trifecta tunes 2.2's and you can use LS2 edit as well. I think the only models not supported are 05's

you never know what you are gonna get from ebay, yes it might be cheeper, but it may also be more difficult. just keep that in mind.

go custom. don't buy any kit. just get a turbo manifold and a nice turbo. then build everything else from scratch

while i am a heavy ebay window shopper and have looked at all the ebay turbos, lemme tell you this, be careful, they are made in china...some of those turbos are cheaper than others, while some of the companies used reman garrett housing, center sections(they just grind the names off) other opt to just rip you off and make you waste loads of time and money, check this out, this is a Xspower turbo that was only running for 30 mins
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y93/RavinTurbo/XSPower2.jpg
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y93/RavinTurbo/XSPower.jpg

if you wanna go cheap on some things in your custom build thats fine, who are we to judge you, do this, search "garrett" you will come up with alot of used garrett turbos selling for cheap, some ned rebuilding, some are already rebuilt and sell for 400-600(for a completely reman one) those are good buys...you might be able to go cheap on a intercooler i have seen DSM run ebay intercooler kits up and down no issues, same for the wrx's...so IC piping and intercooler itself, sure...go cheap, now the BOV, DO NOT GO CHEAP, your bov protects your turbo from surging, surge is baaad...it will fuck up the turbo you saved up to buy...a cheap one, while functional, doesnt do as good a job as the original, the inlet diameter isnt as big as the bigger name brand, this is less pressure that gets to escape and more of it goes back into the turbo(surge)...coupler, clamps, etc go ebay, they are good deals, gauges dont go ebay, buy urself a nice garrett boost gauge, autometer, or some other nice gauge, dont get glow shift, tom motorsports, etc, those are cheaply made, sure they work, but common, you will be judged for them, they have big as logo's, nnever looks pretty when a agauge has a logo covering up half the screen...

thats from a diesel. and Im 99% sure it would not fit back behind the engine. that thing is big. Im using a turbo off a cummins on my honda, but thats a whole nother story.

Id say do alot more research before you get into this. You seem like you could use it. no offense.

well here is my options. thanks jn2 if i would do nitrous, it would be that. Im looking for a turbo and the whole kit new or used under 1000. if thats possible. i did find some turbo for 400 a used garrett. i would do a intercooler and all the goodies for like 500 or so that would meet my requirements maybe. i would get the intercooler off ebay and do an HKS bov. there i did my research.

Not enough, a decent manifold will cost you atleast $300, plus you will have to get a downpipe custom made, etc. It is alot more indepth than it seems and a decent set-up wont happen with 1K.

thats not research, thats looking at parts prices. Anyone can do that. You need to look at what it takes to run one saftley and efficentley, etc.

I know the setup im gonna be using for my honda will run close to. 2500+, and thats with some used stuff. theres a reason garretts cost as much as it does. its PROVEN to work saftley, reliabley, and still give performance

Yes, and don't forget to consider that alot of the parts are easier to come by for Hondas that would be more expensive/custom made for a Cobalt. OP do you know everthing that is needed for a turbo swap?

Was that the guy with the tailpipe turbo that blew his "professionally built" engine?

Exactly the point i wanted to get across haha. If it cost that much for a thrown together homebuilt kit for a honda, then a cobalt is gonna be alot more. i also have a machinist and a full blown mahine shop at my disposal.:guns:

R U epurenced enuff 2 do a tuuurbo build? cuz frm the whey u talk you are a young kid that just wants to go fast. Seriously, put the build on the back burner. Go with actual reliable reputable parts. If it ain't broke don't ebay it. You can choose only two: Fast, cheap, reliable.

Some people have used ebay turbos and they have worked, but most of them fall apart the day they go on.
