Burning Smell under the hood

After a burnout, the smoke from the tires dissipated, and i popped the hood cause smoke was still coming out. And my engine was smoking pretty bad and it smells like burning fluids now even after a few days i thought it was from the rubber on the tires but the smell is still there is this normal?

As per what I posted in your other thread, probably burned up the clutch + burning tires = smelly ::roll eyes::

yes it is normal to constantly abuse the car and have problems.

might i ask why you were doing a burnout?

with street tires you hurt performance to 60 rather then helped it.

street tires are meant to disipate heat not retain it. they arent drag radials. why dont people get that?

If your car was wheel hopping during your burnout, you have probably broken your transmission case which is allowing fluid to leak into the clutch housing which creates the burning smell.

GM has a TSB which tells them not to fix the transmission under warranty.

That's the dumbest theory I've ever heard.

When people have problems... they search the internet. When you search the internet for anything Cobalt related... you will find this site, guaranteed.

I dunno. You guys seem a bit hard on the OP imo. You have never done a burn out? You've never sped? Give the guy a brake, he driving the car like GM thought half the drivers who buy the car would drive the car.

If the car breaks, take it to the dealer, abuse or not!

Never done a burnout in mine either. Just driving your car on the road is enough to build up a decent amount of heat in your tires.

I dunno. I don't know any males with decent cars that have never done a burnout. I have done one with ever car I have owned, do it with every rental and will probably continue until the day I die.
