I have an 08 tcss with about 900 miles on it and my mileage on DIC is only23mpg.Thats with about 60% highway and 40% city.Is this normal? Is it because I am still in the break in period?I have really been keeping it under 65 on the highway and it should be better than this because I have been accelerating gradually and shifting at about 2500 rpm.

Some gas stations use lower quality fuel than others, try not to go with off name stations because its cheaper.

Try shifting at 3000-3500, shifting to higher gears at low RPMs puts more stress on the engine than low gears at high rpms

Iv been doing this and get around 25 city which is the majority of the time i spend on the road.

 

reset your avg mpg before the trip.

 

Check your tire pressure.

 

I've been getting about 15MPG on mine, i uhhh lol can't stay outta boost, it's too fun

 

Up until a month ago I was getting 28 to 29 driving to and from work, now that it's colder out I am getting around 26.7
Winter gas and using a lot more warming up the motor before driving accounts for that drop.

 

Actually Sunoco, Lukoil and Wawa ( generic station ) all use the same gas. There has been countless research and one scientificly cant tell one gas from another there all the same.

Now if maybe one of these gas stations is putting only so much gas and over compensating more water than yes but seeing a majority of gas truck refillers carring the gas to drop it off at the stations stop at mutiple locations to deliver gas not just one name brand so its all the same.

did a huge report and forensic study on it last year for school.

Check your tire pressure like someone else said
Make sure you rear brakes aren't dragging.
Never hurts to check your intake just to make sure nothing got sucked up or some little mouse decided to build a nest up there. Doubt it... but worth a check anyway and it's easy.

 

My ss/tc has 16k on it and i just got back from a trip to north carolina. I averaged about 36 mpg, almost got 480 miles out of a single tank! muahahaha!

But as far as your problem, you are driving a TC right?

yes I am driving the turbocharged 5 speed(08) and the window sticker says 30mpg highway even driving like 50 or 55 it does not seems to come close to thatbut I wonder if it will get batter after break in because only 900 miles 0on it so far

 

The only way u will see close to 30mpg is if you drive long distances for long periods of time. Like road trips. If you driving more than 400miles and use cruise control the whole way (even through rest areas) you can make maybe 32 or 34.

 

BS, driving on the highway at 65 mph is the best efficiency for 5th gear. I know, I use to drive 100 miles a day and i always got at least 30 mpg this way.

Like i said, long periods. You just proved my point. You drove 100miles a day on the freeway. Driving on the freeway for a few miles u wont see 30mpg, but for long periods of time you will. 100miles count for long periods if u didnt know that, So its not BS

 

Well...hold up. If you drive 30 miles on the highway at a constant 65mph...you will have achieved 30 mpg.

If you go 7 miles on the highway and you only use 1/4 of a gallon of gas...then you have achieved 30 mpg...

Regardless of what your average fuel economy pans out to be according to the DIC...if you are on the highway, you are achieving the EPA posted fuel economy for those highway miles driven.

Look, 95% of a vehicles calculated fuel economy is going to come from the driver's input. My point is that you don't have to drive 400 miles to achieve decent fuel economy.

Oh, btw, that 100 miles I drove was mostly uphill. 30 miles of it was in the city, 60 miles uphill, and at least 10 miles of stop and go traffic everyday. If I still managed to get 30 mpg minimum out of each tank then I would consider that pretty good.

I'm not trying to disprove anyones theories, but I pay close attention to the Instant MPG meter when I'm driving and Ive learned how to drive to achieve decent mileage.

 

I never said you have to drive 400 miles to reach 30mpg. I said you can achieve more than 30mpg if you drive for 400 miles or more. i drove from Michigan to Florida which is about 1600 miles and got a total of 36 MPG. You can make 30 mpg on the freeway but not if your only gonna be on it for a few miles.

 

AHAH! Miscommunication, I was talking about instant mileage as you were talking of average mileage. SO yes you are correct
