New 09 TC back to the shop the day i picked it up :-(
Hey guys,
So I pick up my car (2009 Cobalt SS/TC Sport Red Tint Coat) from the dealership @ 7:10pm. I bring the car home, take my dad for a cruise. Then i headed over to my buddies house to take him for a cruise. We go out cruising for like 30 mins or so. By now its like 8:30pm or so. I shut my car off at Tim Hortons & i see a bunch off STEAM comming from under my hood
So i open the hood and theres coolant pissing out from the back of the motor. I called the dealership and they were closed so i called my buddie (which happenes to be the SERVICE MANAGER from the dealership) and he says drop the car back off. So i drove the car back over to the dealership with 121KM's on the car.
He calles me the next morning and says there was some clamp that wasn't tight enough somewhere back there and was a bitch to get at. I didnt ask to many questions cause i just wanted to drive my car!! So now i have had the car for a week and everything seems to be alright! I just thought i would share this exp with you all!!
Also i will post pics this WEEKEND!!!

With what is on the market right now, everyone is making a better product on average than they ever did, but, EVERYBODY is also having issues like these crop up as well.
My Cobalt SS/SC has had a good amount of issues with it and it's probably the last FWD sub-compact that I'll buy from GM ever again, but I'm still going to support GM and buy products from them in the future.
The Cobalt's quality is pretty bad, and its re-sale value sucks. It's a good car for the money though. And the value and performance for the price is almost unbeatable.
I had considered getting something Japanese like a WRX, or a 350Z or something but I've decided that I'm going to be looking into a used TrailBlazer SS in about 4-6 months when my lease ends.
Even though I can really sympathize with other members on here that have had crap Cobalts, I wouldn't go as far as saying that all of GM sucks. Although quality wise that may be the case with the Cobalt...
Anyways to the OP, best of luck with the SS/TC!

I just has the same problem with my 05 SS colant from the back of the engine turned out to o-ring seal for the water pump...I can understand on my car3.5 years old and the start of cool temp...i would be a little upset if I was in your shoes but at your yours is free to fix...
Sounds like a defect in the labor, not the parts...that can (and does) happen anywhere. At least is was a quick, easy fix and you won't be away from your can for an extended period of time...sounds like some parts for these turbo-balts are hard to come by.
My dad bought a brand new 2003 Honda Accord in 2002 and that thing was a mess from the factory. It had a terrible vibration at idle when in drive at a stop. Once shifted into neutral at idle the vibration would go away. He kept it for three years and never took it in for this problem...he seemed to believe that this was normal and fine...
It's all about perception...

I love how the people that say this drive Nissans and Mitsus half the time. Lancers are constantly in our service for stupid quality related crap, and so far, I'm far more impressed with our Ford quality than our Nissan quality.

I can remember over 2 years ago when rumors of the TC were just getting starting. Lots of people discounted these rumors because they said there was no room in the Cobalt for an LNF. I'm so happy that GM made it happen. And the quality on my 2009 SS has been perfect so far.
I came on here with intentions of buying an 08+ Cobalt SS Tc. Since then I've decided a new WRX is a better choice, but I hang around here because I still think the TC is a pretty nifty car, just the quality isn't there.
Yeah I actually drive a Honda.. I'm very, very disappointed with the quality and (lack of) power with the new SI's, BUT I've never heard of someone doing a burnout out of the Honda dealership lot and having a hose fall off and need to be repaired.I love the new TCs, they are a hell of a bargain for the price. I just can't believe how many stories I read of charge pipes coming loose, little hoses falling off, etc etc. There are just serious issues with the shady quality of this car, which unfortunately I don't want to put up with again..

The 06 Si I traded in on the SS/TC had a lot of quality issues. I bought it new 3 years ago, even special ordered it because they were impossible to find then when they first came out. I never experienced that "legendary Honda quality" lol what a myth. I traded that torqueless dog and haven't regretted it. First and last Honda I'll own. I had good luck with Toyotas in the past, but they offer nothing but trucks and granny-mobiles and psuedo-sport now. I've had Nissans in the past with good luck, but again in order to get this level of performance I have to drop a lot more coin. Subaru's I can't say, but IMO they are butt-ugly. I haven't had a Chevy for awhile so we'll see, but so far I am loving this car, but then again I haven't had the problems some have had.

Torqueless, can't argue that. Exactly why I'll be buying my 09 WRX shortly and going stage 2 on it before calling it quits for a while
