In the $200 and under category. I say go for a Nikon or Sony cybershot. I have an Olympus FE-340 and its nice but not great. My friend has a much older cybershot that takes just as good if not better pictures than mine.

i hate that camera.

The canon SD1100IS and Panasonic TZ4 are probably my 2 favorite P&S Cameras. The Nikon S610 and S710 are also great cameras.

The TZ4 is great because it has a pretty wide angle lens for a P&S and it also has a 10x Zoom.

Oh i missed the post about the SX110 IS.

That is a great camera but comparative to the Panasonic TZ4 you get a smaller camera and better features and Equal if not better quality glass in the lens.

i can vouch for the canon sd1100IS, this camera is very nice, has a lot of nice features and is relatively cheap

The touch screen is cool. But the picture quality is extremely poor for the price you are paying. Nikon makes a S52 which is a very similar camera to the S60 except it is a 3x zoom not 5 and it is 9MP not 10MP.

And the price of that is 149 vs 299 for the S60 and the sensor they use in the S60/S52 is not a high quality sensor for images. It takes decent photos but the SX110 IS and TZ4 blow it completely out of the water.

canon powershot 720Is is one of the best rated cameras in its class for under $250, it takes awesome photos with lots of features. Example of a pic, this is just on auto mode:

the TZ4 and TZ5 and FZ28 from Panasonic are probably 3 of the best non SLR cameras out.

I work at a camera shop and can sell almost any camera out there....These cameras don't even make ME the most money but are by far better for most peoples needs.

If you want a pocket size camera the TZ4/TZ5 are much more pocket size than the FZ28.

The FZ28 does have a quite a bit more zoom and a few features that are nicer. It also takes a little higher quality pictures from my experience. But the FZ28 is NOT a pocket size camera. It is only slightly smaller than an SLR style camera. Where if the size of the FZ28 isn't an issue I would recommend saving a little more money and getting an SLR style camera beings that they will take much better pictures and are easier to use in my opinion.

If size is the issues for the camera pick up the TZ5 because its gonna be the best you can get in a pocket size camera.

I have the Canon Power Shot SX100IS and it takes great P/S pixs that can come in almost as clear as a DSLR. I love it and it costs 230 thru Best Buy

you aren't going to be able to take any better of a picture with a $300 P&S if you don't learn how to use cameras and there settings...

Canon G9/G10 hands down. It will be a point and shoot but you can get involved like a DSLR if you want. and you can shoot RAW. that is one thing you should look for in your camera if you want to get serious about photography.

If your going to spend the money on the G9/G10...you are better off getting a camera that you can progress further with when you deem it the right time.
