View Full Version : boost problem
my 08 when i got was getting around 22psi and the more miles i have put on it the lower it goes. the dealer has told me that all i should get is about 12. so i had them go for a ride and they cant explain why the psi varies between 10-17. i had a intercooler pipe replace cause it had a hole rubbing through from the radiator mount and it seems to be better, more consistant around 17 again so what do i do???

ive never even gotten 15 dammit!!! WTF
PeteH 12-30-2008, 09:47 PM Beter than the 0psi I get on my 09 with 470 miles on the odometer. Dealer says it is the Actuator. GM has no stock on the part and no ETA on it. They had better be planning on pulling one off a different car, dammit. :cussing:
sport08 12-30-2008, 09:50 PM my friend get 16 in his 08 ss/tc
Z_Ghost 12-31-2008, 12:21 AM I seen 20 the other day for just a bit.
Had the car in 2nd around 2200 RPM and nailed it, had a Honda civic wanting to play for some silly reason.
Most times I see 17 18 psi under full throttle.
RedCoboltSS2008 01-03-2009, 12:39 PM i usually get from 15 to 17 psi out of mine but have had 23 out of it going down the road at 130 in 4th mashed
slipknotstud92 01-21-2009, 12:56 PM ok so the other day I was racing and after i got done racing i notice i started to hear a sqealing noise every time i got boost. im not sure if i blew a head gasket or if my intake manifold is shot or what. can you help me out
D4u2s0t 01-21-2009, 12:57 PM the stock tune will raise or lower the boost as needed to hit the 260 torque it is programmed for. it's not a problem.

it adjust to make you 260hp and 260 tq no more no less depending on where you are at sea level etc.... i live and jersey and consistantly boost 15 or 16..... i visit my friend in pa for a week and consitantly boost 19.... there is NOTHING wrong with your car i'm assuming it is just using the learn feature
EvilleCobalt 01-21-2009, 01:07 PM Your boost also varies depending on weather conditions. In the winter colder air is denser so the car requires less boost to make the 260hp. I was normally seeing around 15psi in 40 degree weather now it's in the 10-20 degrees and I'm at a little above 11 psi.
JPizzle 01-21-2009, 01:10 PM Boys, it's 260lb-ft of TORQUE that it's designed to make, not the horsepower. ;)
CapitalOne 02-08-2009, 01:31 PM iv always been boosting between 15 and 17 has anyone had a problem with a fuel preasure sensor cause mine on my car whent and now im running on engine power reduce and it fucking blows.
06PEEQCHU 02-24-2009, 10:21 AM barometric pressure and programing is the trick!!!!I own my 06 cobalt ss/sc that boost a solid 15-18 psi in the mountains in Colorado where i bought it, moved to Oklahoma "Yeah!!" and it now boost solid 15 psi..however my 08 hhr ss/tc throws 15 to 19 consistant. my mechanic "die hard turbo honda fan" didnt believe took a ride and left him amazed. the car is smarter than we all think or give credit to....
I'd like to add that when I bought My HHR if it had less than 300 miles and no boost my dealer would eat that quickly....the dealer game of not having or making parts at time of production blows..yes my wife crashed her black beauty and my insurance has been playing that game for 2 months now...
all so check waste gate adjustment rod. you can play around with that for changes x specialy with air intake or k&n filter the computer will change it back after awhile so it wont last forever, but quick night at the track does make a difference..if u plan on playin that way be prepared though and if you dont know dont do it!!!!! hope you have lift too cause its tight....
SportredSS 03-14-2009, 05:21 AM Stock TC's hover around 13-15 psi.. anything over 17 and you've a tuned car.
I hear that there's a TSB for the Waste gate or something along those lines too.. code P0299 and I've gotten another code the dlr cant figure out P2187 fuel related or something

My boost never varied wheather it was 105* or 45*.. Alos these DI engines like the hotter air, it makes for a more complete burn for direct injection in the new TC...

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
A technician may encounter a vehicle with a low boost/power condition and/or DTC P0299 and or P0101 setting. This may be the result of a cracked or broken fitting at the turbocharger assembly.
Recommendation/Instructions:
It has been determined that the nipple for the turbocharger wastegate actuator may be damaged causing this condition. If this concern is noted please inspect the area on the underside of the turbo compressor housing for the wastegate actuator solenoid valve. The nipple (see CALLOUT #1) may have been damaged causing a loss of boost pressure. It may be necessary to remove the charge air duct for a closer inspection. See eSI "Turbocharger Wastegate Actuator Replacement" for solenoid replacement procedure.

This solenoid is available separate from the turbocharger and should be replaced as a sub assembly. Do not replace the turbocharger assembly.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
RedCoboltSS2008 03-17-2009, 06:16 PM To add to the turbo problem has anyone been having there turbo cutting out at 5psi? go to fifty mph in fourth and put into fifth gear and drive up to sixty mph just like normal driving and getting up to speed then when you reach speed feather your foot out to stop accelerating and the turbo with cut out and you can see it on the boost guage and can feel it in the car it only happens at 5 psi it almost like the turbo is smaking the housing or the is turbo lag. Took it to the dealer and tech said he didn't know wat it could be. Also when you get on it in 5th gear the turbo builds up to 10psi and my foot is mashed down the whole time it with go to ten real quick then go to 5 then ten again when it should maintain a constint boost anyone having this problem to? Its a 08 SS/TC anyone having the same prob or suggestions? i need to know so i can get this fixed.

Thats it... However it happened to me in Cali on my way nack home to AZ... turned around and went to Cali dlr and they replace map sensor and said it's fixed... well it's not still the same.. I made Onstar tell me the code before the dlr in Cali touched my car... the P0299.. The down side is that the dlr in Cali cleared my ECU and its not throwing the code anymore Yet but boost remains low at 17, still on tune... My dlr in Az is a high volume high performance dlr and they work on highly modded vets and such so they have no issue with my tune....

Not real sure what to tell ya. Here where I work, they wouldn't work on anything either that isn't currently throwing a code. They might be able to get it out of the history of the PCM. Sometimes the history will show the codes that used to be in it before it was cleared.

futuresseric 04-13-2009, 09:22 PM Yeah I have 1500 miles on my 09...It seems like the boost is not kicking in like it used to in the first 1000 miles....No check engine light..could it be that problem on the turbo? checked all connections and intercooler...seemed good! any ideas?
SRodSS007 04-14-2009, 09:28 AM there is one thing i didnt think of till now. and it will sound totally useless to you guys buuut. ...... Elevation..... i have a friend who moved here form utah. Utah has a high elevation and hit boost numbers were low. when he came here to VA beach his boost went up and his times were way better on the 1/4 mile... sounds strange but look it up. elevation changes yer cars performance

Hmm...I guess that means I have about 60 more miles to go (I have put 440 miles on it since picking it up from the dealer last Friday night) :twothumbs
